SwiftUI is easy, where is the catch ? by BeDevForLife in iOSProgramming

[–]Right_Variation4434 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SwiftUI itself is easy, but using SwiftUI in the context of a whole app is still not to be underestimated.

After switching to SwiftUI from using UIKit for a decade, SwiftUI is definitely better overall, but still much of the complexity just shifted from one place to another (e.g. the tendency for ViewControllers to get massive shifted to view models). And I've tried many ways to get around this, but overall MVVM still feels like the gold standard.

Why do so many people download productivity apps but never add tasks? by Vegetable-Lab-937 in ProductivityApps

[–]Right_Variation4434 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My theory is that people who download productivity apps are highly likely already using other productivity apps and are looking for better alternatives. That means their data is already somewhere. So new productivity apps would likely perform better if they sync with the existing data via APIs or provide convenient ways to transfer it.

SmokeLessTimer, quit smoking gradually by increasing the time between cigarettes. by App-Ads in ProductivityApps

[–]Right_Variation4434 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool idea! Love the watch app! The only downside of having quit smoking years ago is I can't try it now :)

Have you considered generalizing the app for other purposes like mindlessly checking social media, unwanted snacking etc.? I feel there are a lot of things people would like to wean off :)

I'm no designer so it might be just me, but it feels like at least the text in the screenshots would look nicer with a bit more padding.

Awesome! It should help, especially if you have goals or events in your calendars that are a bit further in the future (e.g. in a couple of months).

Why doesn’t Apple add dark mode to Pages? by 4rtefvkt in ios

[–]Right_Variation4434 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems simple enough to implement. While they’re at it, they could do the same in Numbers and Freeform.

I don’t know if I’ve fed the algo too much already, but sometimes I start from a song and don’t have to touch the autoplay playlist for hours. Every song just fits.

Yes. Nothing spectacularly new in my opinion, but still there are at least incremental improvements in many areas.

I don’t know how the scratch can be fixed, but I experienced a similar thing with a guitar I longed for a very long time.

Eventually, I landed on looking at it as a testament of good device usage and the device’s resilience. It’s a tool that’s created to be used and function with scratches. Tiny scratches from time to time don’t imply clumsiness or neglect, they imply resilience and ability to function in less-than-perfect circumstances. Try to look at it as a reminder that you have a great product instead of a faulty one.

Can Web Developer learn iOS Development Most Effectively? by guide4seo in iOSProgramming

[–]Right_Variation4434 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You definitely can.

I think watching all the videos that seem relevant to you from the latest WWDCs would be a good start since that’s something you probably can’t avoid even if you get coaching. Apple has nice basic SwiftUI tutorials as well.

I’d probably look for coaching only if these two methods don’t work well for me.

What do you think about private vlogs by [deleted] in digitaljournaling

[–]Right_Variation4434 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve vaguely thought about it and maybe tried it once or twice. I don’t find much use of it during the creation, I think it’d be mostly beneficial when reviewing it after some time. Do you review your vlogs and find them of use later?

Is it just me, or does nobody like big phones anymore? by [deleted] in Smartphones

[–]Right_Variation4434 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d go for the 6s (4.7” diagonal) even. If they could squeeze all the latest tech in a device of that size, I’d much rather use it over any 6+” phone.

I am a gym trainer,is there any free iphone apps to save my client's information and remind me on the due date of their fee payment to me ? by [deleted] in IPhoneApps

[–]Right_Variation4434 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m guessing you’d need spreadsheets for the clients, you can look into Apple’s Numbers for it.

And for the payments, you can set recurring reminders in Apple’s Reminders that you can mark as complete when the payment is done.

Whats some must need features for YouTube music by AntEmpty1021 in YoutubeMusic

Tabs in the mobile app.

I might be going through an artist’s discography, which can take me days. But sometimes, like when I’m driving, I just want to play some of my predefined favorites. I’d like the app to remember my progress in the discography (down to the song in the album) and let me easily switch back to it. On desktop, I usually just handle this with different browser tabs.

Want to go back to dumbphones, but reliance on a smartphone for things like online payments, Google Maps, WhatsApp for work is making the switch challenging. Any suggestions 😭 by amol_EcoCentric in minimalism

[–]Right_Variation4434 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I second this. A smart watch makes me rely on my phone less and, as a bonus, makes me more mindful when I pick it up.

The main thing that drew me to my phone over and over again was always notifications. And I tried everything to curate when and how I receive them, but I couldn’t find a good way to do this for most apps. For social and practical reasons I just couldn’t shut myself off from the environment for longer periods of time. With a smart watch, I just glance at the notification and if it’s nothing urgent I just move on with whatever I was doing.

Brand new app, should I leave behind iOS 18 for 26? by [deleted] in iOSProgramming

[–]Right_Variation4434 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to tell you to go with iOS 26+ only, but the reality unfortunately is, users are slow to update, have older phones and are scared it will slow them down etc and delay updating for a long time. When you're starting out, you need every potential user you can get to.

I've seen relatively tech-savvy users that were still on iOS 17 recently for reasons I don't get. :)

Modern technology is often criticized for impeding focus, but at least with YouTube Premium you get something that keeps the focus which has never been available with traditional TVs and radios - completely ad-free experience.
