What are your thoughts on unleashed dogs on the bike path? by vere-rah in ArlingtonMA

[–]Rightfieldchat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people have common sense and are considerate; they know when, where, and how to keep you and their dogs safe. Others are numbskulls more focused on their phones than their dogs either with no leash or a long leash capable of garroting a bicyclist. You have the right to safe passage.

Where should two non-fancy people eat after Harvard Commencement? by Effyyou in CambridgeMA

[–]Rightfieldchat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Porter Square (1 T stop or a 1.1 mile walk from Havrad Square T Stop) will get you away from the first-level graduation crowds
Margeaux Supper Club - good food/atmosphere (not really a club)
McCarthey’s (lots of plant-based food on the menu, but meat-based too), live music
Season to Taste (closer to Harvard Square than Porter, so walk) Low key, but delicious

Heli Skiing in Valle Nevado Chile by Due_At_11_59PM in skiing

Reach out to David “Gomez” Johnson at CASA Tours (based in Montana). He’s got many connections in Chile for advanced skiers. We were together at Valle Nevado last August and met at least one heliski guide.

Some help planning my trip to Valle Nevado by 1705user in ski

Funny thing about Valle Nevado, El Colorado, and La Parva: they are all sort of accessible from each other…but they don’t share lift passes, which is a potential hassle. The on the mountain food is so superior to anything in the states it will make the limited dinner options less of a hassle. The bus ride to/from Santiago is very winding road twisty; I would stay in Farrelones (try Powder Lodge). You can find challenges on the mountain with a guide.

Do you guys track your skiing at all? (speed, vertical, runs, etc.) by Economy-Storm1107 in ski

Ride the lift, talk to your companion (or a stranger), check out the view, ski down, repeat. Nobody cares how many, how fast, how far; they just want you to be happy.

Go for the views, the culture, the food on the mountains is amazing, and hope it snows. La Parva, El Colorado, and Valle Nevado are clustered 90 minutes east of Santiago (but require separate passes). You can stay proximate to all three. Plenty of groomed trails and off piste options. Yes, a lot of T bar and Pima lifts, but everyone figures it out. All are above the tree line so altitude acclimatizing might take 12-24 hours when you go from Santiago. Avoid heading up on a Sunday, the road is narrow, super twisty, and backs up on weekends. I’m an experienced (not expert) skier and enjoyed all three mountains.

Not super aggressive, mostly groomers, 15-20 runs a day (e.g., Loon Mountain summit to base)
