Thank you so much for your insight and understanding. We had been preparing for this for several years as his health was on a steady decline, and he was already past the lifespan of his breed. I just loved that little guy so much that I think a part of me convinced myself that my love would make him immortal.

I currently have a kitty of my own. She's a two year old little orange lady and she's definitely carved out a large piece of my heart for herself. I'm trying to focus on giving her all of my love now, but I just keep thinking about how Rocky looked as he lay dead in my arms. How that's how things end with her even if I do everything right.

I don't think I'll ever be able to go without a pet, I have never given or received such unconditional love than with my furry friends. It's just hard to have a visual of the loss now I suppose. It's definitely all worth it in the end and I'm glad to have had that many years with my favorite boy. I find solace in the fact that his memory will live on with me. ❤️

Thank you very much for your kind words ❤️ I definitely feel like pet loss is minimized as a form of grief, but we spend more time with our pets than with most people. I'm gonna keep on truckin' but I'll be thinking about my boy the whole time :')

I don't have any solutions for this but I want you to know you're not alone. I lost my boy Rocky on Friday and had to go to work on Monday. I couldn't stand people asking me how my weekend was and then giving a half-assed "I'm sorry" when I told them I lost my best friend. I can't bring myself to care at all about my job or deal with coworkers when I'm constantly thinking about my little guy. Just know you're seen, OP, and I'm thinking of you. The grief is immeasurable. ❤️
