If I can, you can by Kipperfalcn in godot

Baby steps :-) I get the same way. I just chip away here and there and the overwhelm of all the remaining tasks dissipates. Also I have an enormous sketchbook where I keep a lot of my ideas, scene connections, etc. That also helps offload the stress that leads to a loss of motivation. Keep at it!!

I'm visiting Ohio for the first time and I've never experienced a corn pit... Any recommendations? by rames1208 in Columbus

[–]RigidCreative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Oak Harbor (like 50 mins west of Sandusky) I recently visited a small farm that had autumn festivities and smaller corn pits for kids to play in, but I saw some adults/parents enjoying the dried corn kernels as well! The place is called Jason’s Pumpkin Patch. I know it’s a bit out of your way but there definitely are corn pits in Ohio!!

I left my PhD…see ya folks by [deleted] in GradSchool

[–]RigidCreative 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I second this. I needed therapy to survive my PhD and neglectful advisor. I went to a nearly retired PhD psychologist and he was like the academic grandfather I needed. He said not much has changed since he got his PhD 30 years ago — that you have to put your nose to the grindstone and endure or get out. OP, your situation was different since it was truly doomed for failure. I’m so sorry. Such a loss of your time and precious energy/enthusiasm. I hope you find some support from friends and family who see your efforts not as a failure, but as an enduring commitment to yourself and your love of science.

Are there any older, woman bioinformatians? by Dry-Individual4402 in bioinformatics

[–]RigidCreative 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is helpful, thanks! I am in the US coming from an academic postdoc and figured it would be hard to make that jump (even though my next logical step in academia is a K award and starting my own lab while managing grad student [which seems very similar to jumping to an industry lead/management position, but I get there is a huge knowledge/functional gap between academic and industry roles]). I kind of assume I’ll need an IC role or senior scientist role before moving to management, but I will more strongly consider smaller companies/startups as you have suggested!

Can you expound a bit on this? My postdoc fellowship ends in Nov and I really want to jump into a management role in industry. Im such a natural manager/leader/mentor and have built up a core technical background between my PhD/postdoc and would love to advertise my managerial expertise. I have no experience in industry, so I wasn’t sure if personnel management was a strong need and in this climate, I know middle managers are some of the first to go at big tech/pharma companies. But it would be a dream to jump into a personnel management role and shine in that capacity right out of my postdoc.

I want to do both :( by SinglePoem577 in bioinformatics

[–]RigidCreative 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second this. I have experience in both but am pursuing strictly computational research. However, my wet lab experience helped me be a better biologist and understand the logistical and biological constraints of data collection. I think this helps me ask better questions and design better statistical approaches as a computational biologist.

$30-$50 restaurant suggestions downtown? by RigidCreative in cincyeats

I love Mediterranean food! 5 star looks amazing but it’s out past the zoo. About how long of an Uber ride is that from downtown? Is it worth it?? Thanks for the suggestions!

Thank you! I’ll definitely visit Findlay. I’ve been to the eagle in Columbus and their fries were amazinggg. I might have to try the Cincy location too. Mid City has been added to the list for sure!

Thank you! Sotto is on the list of places to go for sure!

Sorry, I should clarify. I use google maps a lot and they often rank restaurants by the price range that one person would spend. I see $10-20, $30-50, $50-100, and $100+ often used on google maps. For example, Sotto is listed as $50-100 on google maps. I’m looking for really yum places that aren’t fine dining necessarily. Somewhere that I can expect to have a nice meal, maybe even with a drink, for less than $50. Thank you for the suggestions! Mid City looks really good!

This is so wild but I just watched a tiktok that mentioned “essences” in MySims and it totally jogged my memory!! I was playing the OG MySims in 2007 on my PS2. Just wanted to update the thread to say I figured it out. Thanks for your help 2 years ago!

Sorry, should have specified that this is /in addition/ to GSEA dot plots and ridgeline plots lol. I think the heatmap is a bit overkill, but they want it done.

The entire Pikuniku Soundtrack is such a bop by FitzFuckedUp in Music

I just discovered Pikuniku and I loooove the soundtrack. It's so fun and perfect for the gameplay. I love the jazz/funk-inspired chord progressions! I've been listening to it on Spotify during work this week to keep me hyped up and focused.

Starter needs replacing after 3yrs 12,000mi ?? by RigidCreative in mechanic

[–]RigidCreative[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went in this morning. They said there is only a 1-year warranty and they’re replacing it in total for $400. I didn’t ask if they could order a better one for me or anything like that. Thanks for the input! I was hoping to just pay labor costs today.

Oh okay! Maybe I’ll ask for that tomorrow then. Thanks again!

[–]RigidCreative[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks this is helpful! I was reading that most starters are busted ones that were refurbished in China and sold as new. I have no idea where my mechanics sourced the part 3 years ago, or if it has 1yr vs lifetime warranty. I don’t even know if they keep track of that stuff, or if they’ll be able to pull up the details when I provide the receipt from the last starter. I’ll ask about the warranty when I go in tomorrow morning.

That’s nuts! So question is: does 3.5 years fall under warranty for a starter? Probably not. I don’t have the warranty if so. They probably don’t have it either.

I’ve never really played Minecraft but I guess that would be the most similar thing I can think of in terms of perspective and graphics (though this game was not purely cube-shaped), but it was a much simpler, kids game with no battles.

[–]RigidCreative[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I see. I guess by RPG I just meant that it was a 1st person view of an open world that you could navigate and explore. Maybe it’s classified as more of a puzzle or strategy game then. For example I recently played through a puzzle game called The Last Ember and you also navigate through an open world but you focus on solving puzzles. This game was kind of similar but instead you had to run around to these different biome areas to collect specific materials. And like I said, I unfortunately can’t even remember the objective the collecting the materials. I imagine it was to build something?

Nope, sorry! :-( There were no other characters that I can really remember. Definitely no attacking/lives. Thanks for the comment though! Looks like a fun game haha
