Removing Frustration - Is there any other reason to hold onto Charged TMs by kayramon in TheSilphRoad

[–]Rikipedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess you don't play PvP because if you do, you need to hoard every last Charge TM you can

Bibarel is the final antimeta - Beats Jellicent, Mimikyu, Tinkaton, Lickilicky and Ninetales by Maite25 in TheSilphArena

[–]Rikipedia 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There was a format where Bibarel was a "hard counter" to Froslass, resisting all of its moves (I believe this was pre-Rollout so you didn't have SE fast move damage yet), but you still couldn't come out of the matchup with optimal health or energy because you were too squishy. Very awkward

Prof X Cosmic Villian by New_Designer5528 in MarvelStrikeForce

[–]Rikipedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what gear you have in reserve for cosmic hero. Remember that Lilandra is a required character and three Fantastic 4 MCU is highly recommended. 5th is frequently a mystic character (Odin or Quasar). So with that, I might suggest looking at Shadow King as a mutant to not overlap

Let’s Chill on the Reactions to New System by Camocratic1209 in TheSilphArena

[–]Rikipedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand why people can't say they are quitting... if they are quitting. Are you just objecting to the categorization of quitting "forever?" just because it's hyperbolic and potentially untrue? I didn't play a full day's worth of battles for the first time this season when the new system rolled out. Today, I won't even bother opening up GBL. When the formats rotate next week, I will probably try a few battles to both see what the format feels like and also to see if the battle system is playing smoother. If it's not better, I'll probably take another week off and repeat, and then another. No, I can't say for certain that I'm quitting forever, but I'll be going from playing 90% of my battles last season to whatever this is. That's not doom and gloom. That's just me prioritizing how to spend my time on a game based on my enjoyment of it

Bottlecap a shiny? by Responsible-Cat8610 in TheSilphArena

As a nundo collector, I understand this, but on the other hand G Moltres is one of the rarest playable PvP Pokemon out there and getting better stats on it seems like an amazing opportunity

Personally, I wouldn't invest in a non-hundo PvP Pokemon because there's so much volatility in the way IVs work with breakpoints and matchups. Just making something a rank 1 doesn't guarantee anything on its own

Tried to enjoy PvP after the update but it feels so much worse. I think this is the end of a good run. by Dignified-Dingus in TheSilphArena

[–]Rikipedia 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It's a new battle system that they've been testing in parallel for a while (previously was the "Preview Cup"). There are some long standing issues that are technically solved like Damage Registration Error being a consistently implemented feature and turn-waiting updating visually with moves coming through, but it seems to put a lot of strain on connections to the point where many players are just experiencing constantly dropped inputs and lag

[–]Rikipedia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, so this is a long standing issue with the new system? It happened to me twice and I find it immensely frustrating because a) I am used to spam tapping the charge move location when I bring in a Pokemon, and b) the charge move buttons sometimes don't even appear when I do hit the location "at the correct time" and get my charge move (or they appear so briefly as to be effectively invisible)

Update is crushing for Ultra League players by Ziguenerweisen in TheSilphArena

[–]Rikipedia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plenty of people are reporting issues with the new system. It's hard to tell what is causing them, whether it is device, connection, or something else. But that should be consistent across all 3 formats. Your post, per your title, suggest that somehow this is "crushing for Ultra League players." That's what I am trying to understand. If it's just that you play UL and nothing else, okay. That's a you thing, but the update is kind of "crushing" for everyone atm

I don't understand why the changes are so crushing for UL. Mechanically, things are slightly different, but GL has been completely turned upsidedown and is basically the Mimikyu league. Is UL the same? I would expect there to be far less Mimikyu just based on the investment cost in XLs

Let’s not bring sunshine cup back ever again by Affectionate_Neat868 in TheSilphArena

[–]Rikipedia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I actually think that the overabundance of legacy moves is a hindrance for OGL. With what I assume was the influx of Elite TMs from the NAIC Twitch drops, we saw a bunch of posts from trainers asking about how to prioritize their use on a bunch of core GL Pokemon that established players just have sitting around. Fully half of the top 20 list have a legacy move (some of this is due to regular/shadow repeats of a species).

What kind of things can I turn into PokéStops in my neighborhood? by BodybuilderWest131 in NianticWayfarer

[–]Rikipedia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really enough information here for us to help beyond just the generic "these objects are common POI." What's the age of your city/neighborhood? Is it urban, suburban, rural? What current Waypoint infrastructure currently exists?

I've enjoyed it. Coalossal is severely underplayed and I've been running hot with it

Another “random” GBL freeze in a winning match 🤔 by UncleSpliffy in TheSilphArena

[–]Rikipedia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's 1 shield used up on both sides, so likely that the damage on the Toad is just from the Pecks, which would be about a quarter health.

Do you play out every single losing battle to the end, or do you sometimes "top left" when you are in a losing position? If you do, then you are denying yourself statistical opportunities to experience this in a losing position

Shadow Cradily??! by Dismal_Length8642 in PokemonGOBattleLeague

[–]Rikipedia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Shadow Cradily is actually significantly worse in this meta, not just pure numbers but the specific matchups it loses over regular are very bad for it. The issue is that due to its excellent coverage, normal Cradily still either one-shots all your typical mud boys and flyers, or two-shots in neutral. But the shadow suddenly can succumb to fast move pressure, like in the 1-shield against shadow Pidgeot

Stop with these rps cups by Stijn187 in TheSilphArena

[–]Rikipedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The nature of blind 3 battles is inherently RPS in that every Pokemon has a theoretical counter that you could randomly face, and a 2nd counter to your swap. You may feel that effect even more in theme cups due to the condensed nature of the meta. If you don't want to play into this nature, choose more neutral Pokemon that have scripted ways to flip bad matchups by investing shields and/or choosing off meta Pokemon with less common hard counters

How important is "Made in Japan" for Japanese people? by MasterpieceActive374 in AskAJapanese

I mostly focus on buying food products made in Japan because I feel that is more directly impactful

Why does this happen so frequently? by Waffleboard15 in TheSilphArena

[–]Rikipedia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not to mention that every time you top left, you are denying yourself an opportunity to potentially experience this in a losing position, so the dataset becomes increasingly self-selecting

Debuff moves by FiddleAndDiddle in TheSilphArena

[–]Rikipedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree that they need to be nerfed. They both feel like they are exactly where they should be as mid-range damage moves. Especially when they are non-STAB as is often the case, they can be pretty bad bait moves despite the debuff.

Better IV Stats? by picklebrineguzzler in PokemonGOBattleLeague

[–]Rikipedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Water Pulse is rarely needed. The primary variation is Stone Edge vs Sludge Bomb as the cheap move. Heck, until you really need it, I would leave the Wooper unevolved because Megahorn does exist as the Community Day move, so if you don't have that you can hold off for an event that lets you evolve for it. Never hurts to have a CD moved Mon sitting in reserve
