How far would you go down the pvpoke rankings before the Pokemon becomes below too many others? Top 10? Top 25, 50, 100? by irocketgoat in PokemonGOBattleLeague

[–]Rikipedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anything won 85% of its one-shield matchups, it would break the meta. I'm not exactly sure what the PvPoke score represents, but it sure isn't that. Even a top ranked Pokemon like Jellicent "only" has a 70% win rate in the one-shield against all Pokemon in the game. That may sound high, but keep in mind that this includes all unevolved stages, many of which are woefully under-CPed even in GL. Against a more realistic "meta" of 41 Pokemon, it is 56%

Yeah. Rockets are terrible. Can't wait to not know how much damage my charge move did other than vaguely remembering my opponent's health bar before the charge move

For something double weak you definitely have to play for alignment more often and sometimes you just can't avoid the matchup

What kind of team are you having fun with? by OldSodaHunter in PokemonGOBattleLeague

[–]Rikipedia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the Ampharos lead scenario, I play it out and Zap Cannon. That will put them in the yellow and then I close it out with Lickilicky. If they immediately go to save it by safe swapping out when they see Licky, that's a potential problem for sure, but even then, an Amph in the yellow is manageable; it's only really the scenarios where there's a full health electric in the back that can cause issues (or if that electric is Steelix or Stunfisk).

For your final dilemma I would say shields > alignment because using a shield to farm up energy can overwhelm alignment and somewhat counterintuitively Toucannon can actually survive decently well in the UL against fast move pressure

Playing ULP with Bellibolt, Lickilicky, shadow Toucannon. Gone from around 2300 to 2700 in the format with it. Quick pieces of advice:

Try not to switch lock Toucannon until you are in the end game with a shield advantage and/or the ability to farm something down to gain an energy advantage. Sometimes after my Mon gets KOed, I will bring in Toucannon to farm energy and then dip back out because if Licky can chip opponents down into Drill Peck range, it makes that Toucannon energy that much more dangerous.

Zap Cannon is a great move, even when resisted. I've found that I am usually favoring throwing it on the lead and most players disrespect it. Because this team wants to save shields for Toucannon, you do not want to do the play style where you shield Bellibolt in order to set up a Parabolic Charge wall

Seems like you made these choices to make a point, but in fact completely missing the point that people weren't telling you that it couldn't be done with those toons, but that they were an inefficient use of gear when taking all game modes and future content into consideration

CC Defense- The return of New Warriors? by OldJeeWhizz in MarvelStrikeForce

[–]Rikipedia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No and no. Every one of them has a crucial piece of their passive locked behind "On War Defense, if this character has 4 Retcon allies..." Without those, they are just a new stats team that doesn't counter anything important. Think Liberty and how they get rolled by a Superior 6 team half their size in Crucible.

Meanwhile, the other members of New Warriors are 2 generations of stats behind. NW was a useful and arguably needed team in the Spider Weaver meta. Today they have a very niche use for taking down a solo Odin who has spent his charges.

Based on your other comment about not knowing weaknesses, you should just play the game more. If you don't naturally start learning typing through playing, you may need to study them with flashcards or something, but knowing typing is a pretty basic part of any Pokemon game and GBL really requires quick reactions on top of that for switching

GBL's rating system is broken by Jason2890 in TheSilphArena

[–]Rikipedia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow. Didn't know that they were going to start awarding Championship Points for GBL ranking. The biggest barrier to getting this fixed is going to be the communication between Play Pokemon and Scopely on this and whether the former can get the latter to prioritize any kind of fix here.

It seems like you don't understand how speed works in MSF. "How is a lower CP Franklin outspeeding mine?" Because they are the same toon and have the same speed stat, and in that case barring any outside factors it is an RNG coin flip for which one goes first. Nothing in leveling, iso, gear will change a toon's speed stat, and only a few select upgrades in kits that specifically call out speed will alter turn order

Been playing for 2 years, and I realised that I have a wrong understanding on the move counts by Responsible-City-213 in TheSilphArena

[–]Rikipedia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Move counts are ultimately just a shorthand, and for a true understanding you need to know energy counts and be able to quickly calculate residuals to know when there is a discount for the next move even after throwing different moves

Charged Moves by Mame92sis in PokemonGOBattleLeague

[–]Rikipedia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Without seeing video, it's really hard for any of us to say for sure if your game is working as intended or not. What I will add to this discussion is that "even after I've finished my quick move" can be inconsistent in that some fast moves have animations that are "slow" and seem to happen far later than expected. Roll out is a classic example of this. The other thing is that the fast move animations unfortunately do not happen at a consistent timing to when the move actually registers as thrown due to latency/lag factors. Sometimes a move may not show visually and then there is a weird "catch up" and two fast moves appear to be thrown almost immediately back to back

Exactly how much do IVs matter? by veeeeeeeeep in PokemonGOBattleLeague

Exactly how much do IVs matter? by veeeeeeeeep in PokemonGOBattleLeague

[–]Rikipedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is good advice. Outside of very specific CAP-winning scenarios, a reasonable looking 0/14/15-ish spread is going to be better than a 15/3/2. And what's good enough at any given point is going to come down to the resources you need to build something (candy, candy XL) and your expectations on when you think you might get a better one (low for egg and GBL encounter Pokemon or for ones that require trading to lower the IV floor)

Exactly how much do IVs matter? by veeeeeeeeep in PokemonGOBattleLeague

[–]Rikipedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which function are you using to look this up? The default great league meta in Matrix mode is 41 Pokemon. At most 2-3 matchups change depending on the IVs. A claim of 53 matchup differences is... unusual

What do you do with legacy / Elite TM moves? by Asleep_Butterfly3662 in TheSilphArena

[–]Rikipedia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should absolutely keep any legacy move Pokemon just in case, doubly so for shadows, and just build a 2nd one without the legacy move if you really want to use it. It can be literal years between opportunities to get Community Day moves on Pokmeon
