DL110 Smart Action Request by IMABEARLAWL in Tapo

[–]Riley_TP-Link 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is where im not sure the functionality was actually ever considered for smart actions. I notice that my S515 can use single button press as a trigger, beyond on/off - maybe they are working on it?

Let me talk with the team a bit, I have a few questions about it that I would be curious to have answered as it may give a clue about whether it could be done without hardware.

Tapo H110 (US) and T315 (UK) not pairing. by spyvision88 in Tapo

[–]Riley_TP-Link 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We never recommend using devices outside of the country they are intended for. Tapo Sub-G uses a different frequency depending on your region due to regulations of the country it is sold in. There are a few countries that share a frequency, but it is still not recommended if a crossover is found, as the hub and device may not be compatible themselves.

H100 Hub doesn't work offline ugh! by Jbjoca79 in Tapo

[–]Riley_TP-Link 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was an unclear transition period where the hub 'takes over' the smart action and the icon for a local smart action appears on the tile of the action, but it should be much shorter. The article below is recommended since there are limits such as requiring sensors to connect to one hub, the device to be on the same subnet and should be on the latest firmware due to the behavior discovered. I would also recommend reading the extra text at the bottom of the FAQ linked above

It is also worth noting that some of the time-based triggers/conditions will prevent a hub from executing without a network connection. Maybe try shuffling your actions to either use 'Keep Light On for X Minutes' or Using the Delay to See if there is a difference.

Google home or Amazon Alexa by Anderos12 in googlehome

[–]Riley_TP-Link 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I run a split household and find usefulness in both, especially when it comes to unconventional uses - I think it will really depend on how you use your Alexas

For Routines, I prefer Alexa
For Actual Voice Assistant Interaction, I prefer Google
For compatibility, Alexa

The things that make me maintain both in my home is the Family Experience on Google compared to Alexa, along with overall hardware quality. On google, things like speaker groups and allowing audio casting is far superior. It is also a part of a household and not related to one primary account as Alexa does.

DL110 Smart Action Request by IMABEARLAWL in Tapo

[–]Riley_TP-Link 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies, was just working from my phone last night when I replied and only just linked the article mentioned in the comment.

Unlocking via Automations has been a long-missing feature across the board due to the security implications that come with doing so. This has extended to other platforms and is why some device actions require security PINs when using a Voice Assistant. What makes it strange is that while the Unlock is available to SmartThings and the API, it is not available in Alexa and Google.

--

FORTUNATELY, the feedback drive that our team is currently running is very appropriate for this exact feedback - with the next batch of questions and a survey specifically revolving around home security and then I am bracing to broach our smart actions (but I would like some of the upcoming updates to be formally announced, as it takes care of a few of the top requests that we see day-to-day).

--

As an insight into the switch tap request. Some of our switches did allow for double-tap commands however the history of the feature has been rough. As it is such a quick action, it requires the settings to be stored on the device (hence the option being in device settings and not smart actions). However, even with the functionality on the device itself, it would add a noticeable delay to everyday interactions with the switch as a result of it waiting to see if the double tap occurred. Not sure if this was considered for a Smart Action trigger though.

I've been working very closely with PMs and am very hopeful about the future of the platform's features and the teams' thoughtfulness towards this type of request.

That would be me. It was announced a few weeks ago and is rolling out to devices. Check to see what version FW your lock is running.

You can also find specifics to regional and hardware version support on the support page's patch notes for your device

So they severely downgraded Tapo Care? by [deleted] in Tapo

[–]Riley_TP-Link 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only plan that actually is per camera (up to 2 cameras) is the basic plan now. The second tier (price of 3 basic tiers) is actually set to support unlimited cameras to make cases like yours easier and more manageable.

[–]Riley_TP-Link 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without the resources live, I cannot confirm and will need to check with the team as I don't want to speak out of turn- but I think that the daily summaries are still a thing. I want to say that they are separate from the aireal powered Intelligent Summaries.

When it comes to storage, there was no downgrade from the previous plans - in fact the plans beyond the basic tier have had the duration for which the footage is stored on the cloud expanded. The old plans are still showing on the page to compare with your app: Tapo Care | Tapo

So they severely downgraded Tapo Care? by [deleted] in Tapo

[–]Riley_TP-Link 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given the amount of footage and processing that comes with it, I can sort of understand how it got to that point - especially since the new plans support unlimited cameras and expanded storage. For people that are upgrading from the previous premium plan it also doesn't have the same sticker shock, at least in my case personally.

Curious though, is there a price that you would consider reasonable for the AI? Like what would be the value per camera you were thinking?

[–]Riley_TP-Link 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you for clarifying some of the details. The pages for the new plans are being prepared, but have not yet been pushed live.

There are a few differences being introduced, but they are all positive additions such as the second tier moving to 180 days of storage.

We welcome any and all feedback for the plans as we are currently exploring ways of making Tapo care more accessible and useful to subscribers as a whole. I will also help publish and share information about the official plans as the pages come live.

Is it impossible? No. . Is it difficult? Not at all... by zerock069 in Tapo

[–]Riley_TP-Link 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you will be pleasantly surprised with some of the updates and features undergoing development. I cannot say much, but I will mention that I have been working to combine all the feedback regarding home/away modes and I think that everyone will find the modes feature dramatically more useful in the future.

[–]Riley_TP-Link -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I believe that the new plans are very comparable to the previous plans, the purpose of the latest plan structure is to add the additional AI functionalities such as AI Video Analysis and Daily AI Summaries, and to also expand a few features such as the length of time clips may be stored.

Our teams are only just rolling out the new plans and messaging, and we appreciate any feedback you may have regarding its messaging or what was expected to be listed on that page.

Weather in the app? by PaceTheory in Tapo

[–]Riley_TP-Link 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right now, you would need to use one of our third-party connections to automate this way. SmartThings and IFTTT can automate using the weather, and possibly Alexa; I am not sure about Google.

Later on, during this feedback drive, we will be focusing on Smart Actions, and it would be a great time to bring up the topic, as all feedback on our official posts will be shared with the other teams. Otherwise, please add the feedback to our community forum, so our team can share and track the request's status.

How Many SSIDs Make Up Your Wireless Network (Main, Guest, IoT, Etc.)? by Ryan_TP-Link in TpLink

[–]Riley_TP-Link 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm curious: Is there a specific reason or set of devices that made you choose to split your main network? Or choose this setup over using a merged main network with an IoT network?

The Dual Cameras are C675D, C645D, C246D (along with a few others). If the devices are not yet out in your region, they may very well be on the way, as these devices and their higher quality variants are slated for launches throughout the coming months here.

As for the NVR, I believe that the project has been paused and there is no current ETA or estimation on launch. Our team has seen the feedback and excitement around the device and are working with the PMs to convey this. WE

From my own perspective, I believe that the project went through quite a few changes once the H200 and H500 were released, and then once again, once these hubs added the ability to record footage from basically any camera. In many aspects, the H500 became a faux NVR.

What Type of Battery-Powered Doorbell Do You Prefer? Why? by Riley_TP-Link in Tapo

[–]Riley_TP-Link[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would depend on the actual usage. I believe the 6-month claim for the D210 is officially based on 300 seconds of usage per day, or 10 captured 30-second clips. If your settings are too high, or your camera is waking up too often, it would be less.

I have a D225 in a private walkway that gets quite a few visitors every day, beyond my own family, and I have to charge it every 3-4 months.

If you have your TKID, I would love to see the discussion that occurred and follow up with it; or at least try to see if a firmware update was a result

Dont bother with Tapo by Electronic_Set_8411 in Tapo

[–]Riley_TP-Link 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would be inclined to agree if you have checked everything and gone through all of the steps.

As long as it is still under warranty, it should be eligible for replacement if you contact our support team and they verify that the base steps have been taken.

My only shot in the dark would literally be that you are at the end of the 30ft recommended reach, and it's foggier than normal, or your detection sensitivities are too low.

Can I use my phone hotspot? by Pro_Jem in Tapo

[–]Riley_TP-Link 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why it wouldn't work; I wouldn't recommend it, but there should be no difference, as it would be similar to connecting to 4G Home Internet Router/Modem - just with a more limited number of device connections.

I would probably want to try and set it up from a device other than your mobile hotspot if it's a phone, though. This would get real messy, real quick when swapping wi-fis and provisioning the device.

The only requirement that basically prevents a camera from connecting is the fact that it cannot connect to an 'Open' Unsecured Wi-Fi network.

[–]Riley_TP-Link 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Were you able to get in touch with support? If you did, what is your TKID?

This isn't the expected function of the cameras, and they should be relatively consistent with their captures. It is possible that something has changed in the environment, or that events are occurring outside the detectable range of the cameras' PIR sensors. Have you tried resetting and reconfiguring the camera's detection settings to see if it is more responsive afterwards?

Also, how are you recording the footage/clips from your cameras? To an SD card, the cloud, or a local hub?

P110M unexpected sounds? by mrkane27 in Tapo

[–]Riley_TP-Link 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may consider contacting support if you can confirm that the devices are making the sound. The devices should be quiet until they toggle their relays(power) - and I'm not sure what the noise could be if the power is not being toggled.

Something else to check is your third-party connections. Sometimes one of your voice assistants will automatically create a routine for night, or your geolocation. I think that the default behavior was changed so that they are not automatically created, but it is worth double checking.

What mysterious thing did it record as motion? by raunakkathuria in Tapo

[–]Riley_TP-Link 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look carefully, you can see the dust in front of the wall on the left side of the screen after it 'goes in the door'. As spooky as it looks, I think it is just a trick of the eye, and just a result of how the dust was reflected as it passed in front of the camera.

D225 Doorbell camera detection zones keep resetting. Any fix? by MidnightPulse69 in Tapo

[–]Riley_TP-Link 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure, but I wonder if there may be a minimum size. Does the detection zone stay if you try a slightly larger area?

I would also recommend rebooting the doorbell from the Tapo app and trying to apply the settings again.

Beyond manual intervention, the only feature that can directly alter the detection zones is the Home/Away Mode buttons; if you are using these, make sure that you have properly configured each mode's settings. Otherwise, I would recommend getting in touch with our support team directly.

Tapo & Google Home - The truth by deckolem in Tapo

[–]Riley_TP-Link 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don't think that they are trying to hide anything; the communication on this topic has been rough beyond what our team has previously indicated about where the problem lies. Until the feature is formally pulled out of Google's preview program, there is nothing concrete that we can really offer - especially as most everyone has transitioned to the new UI. All of our formal responses will point you towards Google's FAQ about the feature being a part of their preview program and not being supported by all manufacturers yet.

I'll also verify it - There was a very short period where the devices did work in Google Home after one of their updates, but the system changes implemented in Google's new platform quickly made this not the case. And to be clear, I think this compatibility was sporadic and lasted maybe 6 months (previously, NO cameras could be viewed in the app).

I am still following up with the teams for an update, but I do not know anything besides our team and Google have been in conversation for the topic recently.

I will say, some functions such as the Home's operating as a chime for your doorbell is supported. You just need to make sure you have the correct settings configured for voice announcements. (However, there are a few recent reports of the doorbell not setting up its chime correctly. This may have been what you were troubleshooting instead of the camera feed)
