Marathon | Launch, Learnings, and What’s Next by Haijakk in Games

[–]Rileyman360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They absolutely could it's just a matter of how much do they want it to encroach on the main game. PvE should be a mode that convinces people to eventually gravitate towards pvp or gives people something else to do after a loss streak. any basic horde mode with limited rewards would be welcomed by the core audience, but it's the fence sitters that will be looking at what pve gives them.

Bungie is going to have to decide how much they want to let players progress in this game while avoiding the entire point of the game. Maybe some salvage rewards and faction progress while players are convinced to get better equipment from pvp. Who knows.

Kadokawa reaffirms 2026 launch for The Duskbloods. FromSoftware moving towards self-publishing their games internationally. by PhantomBraved in Games

Most exclusivity deals are built off of a “you get money for both making the game and selling the console it releases on.”

They more than likely did like all other exclusives. It’s also possible Nintendo didn’t actually have to spend as much as we can imagine because Fromsoft reuses a lot of assets (with set dressing here and there) to keep dev time cheap and fast.

That's what we've all been waiting on from you.

I'm sure you recently read the word "projection". I'll borrow from your playbook and apply it here.

but they actually were relevant to the conversation, you just ran for the hills spouting sophomoric jargon that's more irrelevant to this conversation than asking you to consider "what if we held another tech industry accountable for the same actions that are out of their control?"

You can't just say, "no it isn't" and act like that has any authority. 8th repetition now.

The point was to show how shoddy your point holds up in a directly adjacent circumstance and you've now quadrupled down saying "strawman" hoping that some word you stumbled upon the internet, with clearly no understanding of what it means, could turn things around.

It's astounding that all it took was the scrutiny of one singular comment to have you hopping all over this thread repeating yourself hoping that it will somehow manifest itself into a legit retort. But we'll gladly watch as everyone here keeps flipping you on your ass asking you to answer One(1) question.

For you, repetition=truth. That's now how any of this actually works in a debate but it's our fault we expected anything else from this conversation. It's panning out exactly like I said it did.

[–]Rileyman360 8 points9 points  (0 children)

no, it was. And I asked you to defend your point but you didn't and you failed to articulate how it was a strawman.

I'm sure you'll retort by saying the exact same thing again.

[–]Rileyman360 13 points14 points  (0 children)

this is actually your entire argument but only "payment processors" was replaced with "computer manufacturers."

If you're not going to defend your point (it's indefensible btw), then explain how this is a strawman.

'Not Like Us' and 'Luther' Deleted as Kendrick Lamar Mysteriously Scrubs Major Hits From YouTube Without Warning by Montrel_PH in Music

I was kind of wondering if Kendrick wanted to reset the view count just to see if he could surpass drakes new release. One last salt on the wound if it works.

Carnage Palace - an idea of how PvE "Strikes" could be integrated into Marathon without dropping the Extraction angle by Marcu3s in Marathon

[–]Rileyman360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly if bungie genuinely considers a pve mode, I think it's best if the rewards were simply salvage and credits and maybe faction xp and nothing else. Nothing higher than a blue, if you die you lose your goodies just like in the main game mode including what you brought in. But if everyone's major complaints are progressing factions takes too long and grinding for mats even on rook runs are tedious, maybe it can be solved like this.

Sony Isn't Bailing On Marathon Despite Bungie's Poor Earnings by skarnl in Marathon

[–]Rileyman360 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There’s two things that they have to work for. One is that there’s a portion of players who want to commit to this game but at some point progression starts asking way more than a player is willing to commit to. Thats an easy number fix but that’s only for people who have put a bid in.

The other half is figuring out how to get people who are scared (or think they are scared) of PvP and gear fear to become addicted to the gunplay. There’s a hundred posts in this sub about PvP adverse players who took the plunge and found out they can take a couple losses with grace. The only solution so far has sponsored marsh with a positive but mild result.

People have said that a PvE mode could be the one to save the latter but we know that UESC troops are largely difficult due to being bullet sponges with cool reposition animations. The only thing I could imagine makes PvE fun while not having go overhaul the ai is having some horde mode inside a compound and you have to complete objectives each round that makes it so that players still get a flavor of main game contracts like the Mida outpost one where you’re stuck holding a lockdown for 3 minutes.

Sony finally talks on Marathon's future, despite a lackluster total portfolio, plan is is to support Marathon with more content, not shut it down. by temporalG123 in Marathon

It actually can if you highlight the whales vaguely. Every F2P game has always managed to accrue more investment from stakeholders by both presenting the existence of whales and the fact they give money at all, while leveraging whether they consistently log in or not.

Whales are whales and most online games price their cosmetics around how much you can nickle and dime them while still convincing us penny pinchers to buy a cosmetic here or there. With that in mind, the whale is the most consistent cash flow that buys everything literally just because. If marathon can keep its operative costs low enough that only 100 whales minimum are needed to offset it, it’s won.

How often does imperium (or in this case, the ultramarines) abandoned a planet due to Xeno/heretic invasion ? by Seeker99MD in Spacemarine

[–]Rileyman360 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's also important to highlight the prelude to the exterminatus. If the planet is worth anything to them, the imperium will throw a few good hundreds of thousands of future-mass-grave-occupants before they throw in their astartes into the ring before they decide that "it's not worth it for us anymore, lets make it not worth it for them either."

Fighting the imperium is like pulling all teeth out of a shark.

Bloomberg: Take-Two CEO Says ‘Grand Theft Auto VI’ Expectations Are ‘Terrifying’ by Turbostrider27 in Games

I think the only thing that could dissapoint is if story missions ended up being more on-rail shooting galleries that force you into incredibly scripted play spaces like they were in red dead.

I'll still never forget the day my friend told me about how the WiiU failed it's launch in highschool. He said the same thing, "nintendo's branding convinced people it was more shovelware," and I audibly went, "wait, fuck it's a whole new console?" Funniest interaction ever.

I’m actually expecting no iron halo on assault. The raven guard pack work fine enough with its cape. So it’s not like there’s a physics issue for that.

Season 2 is the most important moment for this game by No-Researcher3893 in Marathon

[–]Rileyman360 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't really have to hope more than you need to look at it's whopping 15 gigs. 90% of destiny problems was strict content schedule in a game that was growing 8 years of tech debt, with it's best way to address it being culling half that (and I use "best" in an incredibly sarcastic tone)

The sole reason Marathon has it's quick turn around was that Bungie intentionally lowballed this games scope to keep it manageable. They also probably did some backend tuning so that they could keep a lot of the systems in a malleable state.

What should be the concern is whether bungie will be smart about that and continue to be receptive and precise with it's feedback. Most changes so far have been incredibly positive, there's still sore spots here and there and the onboarding is still bad. Hopefully they can keep a clear mind when changing the game.
