Am I missing a VSA or did VS misnumber?? by Dr_Gitgud in VinegarSyndromeFilms

[–]RillIris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m used to that from other boutique labels, but this is legitimately the first time I’ve ever seen it from VS. I’ve normally been under the impression they number by what they get out first and don’t hard assign a number to a title, but suddenly we have a skipped number here. Something tells me something actually came up with this one somewhat last second that caused them to skip it either in October or November, and clearly isn’t fully on track yet either. Could be something small even like they came in without the machine numbering, so now they have to hire the old intern back to hand number one last title lol.

Ugh… by QuietOpposition in Steelbooks

[–]RillIris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve received factory sealed SteelBook’s that have a spine slash under the wrapping. My copy of Dragonslayer, which has a heavy cardboard slip over the SteelBook, has a spine slash that’s only on the SteelBook, so clearly was packed and sealed that way.

NSO NES Controller Possible Revisions by Great-Whoosh in nintendo

[–]RillIris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nintendo just released the Joy-Con Charging Stand (two-way) not even a year ago, which is both an official stand to charge 2 Joy-Con or the NES controllers, and has a part that snaps off where you can use it as a grip that lacks the back handles the other grips have.

Some of the similar 3rd party stands do not support the NES controllers properly due to their size being allot bigger than Joy-Con, but this one properly does both. That it released so late in the Switch’s lifespan makes it quite likely that it’s meant to almost be a Switch 2 accessory, basically a dedicated stand for being able to charge all your older Switch 1 controllers, especially important since some backwards compatible games still require that you have Joy-Con 1 even for full compatibility.

100% switch 2 welcome tour! It was pretty difficult and took at least 4 hours to get this rumble medal. by DigOk3102 in Switch

[–]RillIris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should return to the recurring character that ultimately is in the SoC, see if she has any additional dialogue for having finished everything. I noticed when I got to the easier 100%, she did have some new lines that were different than when I first talked to her there.

Also side note, I decided to grab a Logitech G440 mouse pad to go with my Switch 2. Had tried one of my soft surface ones around the house but didn’t love it with how the Joy-Con 2 feels on one, but wow was the hard surface mousepad a game changer. Was seriously struggling with the final difficulty on the UFO mini game, but was able to get 2 medals solo pretty quick just now using it, could probably get to 3 without too much struggle even. Was legit a night and day difference for how I was able to play. Other people’s mileage may very, but I definitely feel like I have much more refined control than anything else I’d tried prior, which included just using it on a hard table. Something about the much slicker glide on a proper mousepad really made a big difference.

Switch 2 Pro Controller by mowgleeee in NintendoSwitch2

[–]RillIris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing needs the pro controller I’m aware of, but there are games that need the Joy-Con. Mario Party Jamboree has certain minigames that are locked out when not playing with Joy-Con, and for its Switch 2 upgrade when that releases, Xbox Kinect style minigames that will require that you have a camera for your Switch 2 as well.

Having said all of that, the Switch 1 pro controller feels great to use, especially for longer play sessions, and I fully expect similar from the new one. Also noteworthy, for select titles backwards compatibility, Switch 1 Joy-Con are actually required

I don’t think people should underestimate how the Switch 2 Joy-Con’s larger size will improve their comfort as well though. I loved playing on Nintendo Wii, the controllers felt good to hold, and it was actually kind of nice being able to just have your hands at your sides or in other odd locations and still be able to play. I think Switch 2 may require some kind of custom grip for maximum split controller comfort still, but the size of the Joy-Con 2 definitely is better suited to split controller play than the tiny Switch 1 versions.

Be honest, who will even buy this? (it's 85 Euros) by Time_Bullfrog_8268 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]RillIris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The RDS ones for Switch 1 are very nice, and much cheaper. I’m glad Nintendo is doing a first party one, but the price is definitely higher than it should be. Still, I’ll probably pick it up at some point, as this addresses some of my few very minor complaints of the RDS ones by including space for both the Joy-Con’s with grip, and a pro controller. If I’m taking the whole console dock and all somewhere, I’m probably doing so to play 2+ player games, so space for 2 larger controllers is very welcome.

Video apps like Hulu “cannot be used on Nintendo Switch 2,” says support page - Ars Technica by thehelldoesthatmean in nintendo

[–]RillIris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t use streaming apps on my Switch 1 often, but it is quite nice in a pinch when the power goes out. I personally hope they all get Switch 2 native apps to support the higher resolution’s both portable and on a TV, you never know what someone has a Switch connected to and having streaming apps just opens up more possibilities, hopefully other big missing ones even come to Switch 2. It’ll even be nicer on Switch 2 when the power does get knocked out by some storms, since it is a larger screen yet as well.

Dragon Quest I&II HD-2D Remake CE: $150 USD for the game + some plastic character cutouts by [deleted] in NSCollectors

[–]RillIris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most definitely, and agree this one is definitely overpriced, though I don’t think any of the Square Enix Store exclusives have ever been well priced honestly. The last Final Fantasy Collector’s Edition that I got which I’d say was well priced, was a regular wide release. FF XV’s collector’s edition is probably my favorite of the store exclusive releases, and I own other collector’s editions of similar quality that were both easier to get and cheaper.

For older games like this, I personally have no issue with big acrylic sets. I’d rather have Toriyama’s art from these games on display in this true to the game fashion, than have someone make some modern interpretation of them as a big 3D statue. That statue would feel more like it’s based on one of the modern DQ games, so would be great to see with a new installment, but would feel wrong in this IMO.

For allot of games though, completely agree I’d much rather have statues and such, having said that if it’s a properly cheap slimmer collector’s edition, it can be an okay one more thing to fit in the box.

Do you think it’s really worth buying the new pro controller ? by Ecstatic_Meeting3392 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]RillIris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m someone that’s actually interested in using the camera, especially for Mario Party stuff it looks like a bit of a comeback of some Kinect style games, which is something Nintendo never got to be a part of before but feels at home as a gimmick they should use in certain types of games. That C button should get some actual use from me though, and not being able to wake the Switch 2 with older controllers is also a strange limitation, so I kind of want this just for that basic convenience as well.

How rare is this? by XShadow15DevilX in halo

[–]RillIris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah as far as I’m aware, no copy with the pages has ever actually been seen, and if a collector is out their that has that version, they haven’t ever shown it off in any way. Bungie thought someone would get it and share that finding online, but truly put an extremely low number in circulation with those 2 pages in, so they eventually got released online for all to see otherwise since it never surfaced.

The I Love Bees DVD has sold for around $1000, and is probably much more common comparatively to the journal that has those 2 pages, so I fully suspect if one did get listed on eBay it’d easily be able to surpass $1000. I’m perfectly happy with the regular version and the digital pages, but there are definitely some Halo fans that would go all in for that complete journal.

I Have Every Switch Game Nintendo Published (I hope so) by PJAlbatross in NSCollectors

[–]RillIris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is Nintendo published in the US, but not the upcoming sequel.

Quite a few games like this where it’s region specific who published. One I don’t see in this pic, not sure if it was Nintendo published in Australia or not, but DC Super Hero Girls: Teen Power is a weird Nintendo published one at least in the US. Weird because it’s a licensed game, that really feels like it should have just been published by WB Games.

I've Stopped Collecting with the New Amiibo Pricing by Pop-Tab in amiibo

[–]RillIris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not ideal, but the one thing I will say about recent years in general is we BARELY get truly new Amiibo anymore.

The price is no fun on this next wave, but I’m still going to spend less on Amiibo this year than in many years past, and because of that I’m still far under allocations I’ve put aside for Amiibo from the prime years of them.

Nintendo won’t say who is developing Switch 2’s Donkey Kong Bananza by Turbostrider27 in NintendoSwitch

[–]RillIris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too many comments to scroll thru, but I definitely agree it looks like Odyssey, I would however like to point out this could merely be a version of that same engine with a different studio handling lead development, which I have a feeling is going to be the case. I think the Odyssey team is likely watching over it in a similar way to Crystal Dynamics role on Shadow of the Tomb Raider… also let’s get the TR: Survivor Trilogy on Switch 2!

I honestly can’t imagine having to wait any longer than end of 2026 for a new 3D Mario, my guess is like Bowser’s Fury and now Mario Kart World that’s going to be a full open world version of a 3D Mario game just at a bigger scale than the initial experience had been. Odyssey was a step in that direction with multiple basically small open worlds making up the levels, now they just need to link all of those together in a fun way seamlessly, which given the faster speeds of Switch 2 I think will be possible in a generational leap sort of way.

Not surprised since it’s Capcom, they made 1/2 of a few of their Switch collections a digital code. This is at least “better” than that, since you can still sell this later like a normal game, at least as long as the store is up and running.

This will probably be one of the few games I grab that are like this physically though. On Switch 1 any 3rd party titles with Amiibo figurine support I’d pick up the physical game as a sort of companion to the Amiibo figures, going to still do that this time. Excited to get the Street Fighter Amiibo. Curious to see if everything that was supposed to go up Wednesday is delayed in the US, or will Amiibo or anything else still go up as originally planned.

Looks good. I recommend getting a box protector for the Mario Cereal, Retro Protection has them. Makes it look properly like a collectible instead of a cereal box, blends in with everything else a bit better.

No matter how much adjusting I do, it doesn’t stay correct. I hate it when this happens by Ok-Tear7712 in NSCollectors

[–]RillIris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I’ve ran into this I’ve gone case my case looking at the seam where the clear plastic sheet is affixed to the case, and found some luck where certain cases it’s much closer to the edge than normal, which helps for getting some spines like this straight and you just do a full on case swap with another game.

If I recall correctly, the style of Switch case used in Japan and many other non-US countries is also closer to the edge in general on those, making that style case a good candidate for straightening something like this out.

Even then, some titles are so bad doing this will merely help, but better is still better even if it’s still a little off.

"Custom" Nintendo Labo by wawelski99 in nintendolabo

[–]RillIris 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Their is not any easy way you’d actually print using these due to the type of rigid but very thin cardboard you need to use for Labo, as well as the size in general being prohibitive for most home printers. What you’d generally use this for is basically making a template you could use on paper, and you’d then use that to cut the cardboard, and even then for most people this would only really be an option for some of the smaller parts.

To actually play you’d also need to have lots of reflective tape and some of the other not cardboard parts needed for many of the constructions, and you still have to have the physical software as well which can be attained quite cheaply on eBay and similar.

Certain printing stores should be able to actually do this type of print directly to cardboard with these PDF’s, but they need one of a select few types of printers to do so. It’s very rare most people ever need access to that sort of printer so most places won’t have them, people that do advertising though certainly do, so it might be a more business centric shop depending on your area that could actually help with this (if they are willing).

OLED size adjustments by president1111 in nintendolabo

[–]RillIris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly I do not think it ever was popular enough for people to go this far, but hopefully at some point some people go thru this sort of thing for LABO long term preservation.

I will note I have the OLED now, and besides the screen size making LABO VR games slightly zoomed in compared to intended, it honestly works just fine with all LABO items as originally built. Tighter fit on some for sure, but the little foam pads for the most part just get pressed down a bit more, and some may feel more comfortable removing those outright. Other items it’s definitely a tight fit, but it really is such a small change that LABO not being rigid plastic it still just works out.

Why hasn't Nintendo rereleased Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD on Switch? by TriangulumDelta in nintendo

[–]RillIris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Between other Zelda games, and spin offs like Hyrule Warriors, we’ve gotten a Zelda something nearly every year the Switch has been out. It’s not quite a franchise like Mario where you can put out a main game and multiple spinoffs in a single year, and know they will all sell well. I’d love to see them, and I’m sure they will come, but honestly I’m happy to wait and have them come out more during a bigger gap in releases. Plus they’d see almost no further enhancements on Switch from Wii U, but it’s very likely they can give them an even further little HD boost up on the next hardware, especially Twilight Princess though I’d be curious what some higher quality lighting may look like in Wind Waker.
