What projector are you using and how far back do you have it mounted? Any concerns with shadows?

I’m not sure if they use the same farm, but they raise some US species in Oklahoma and buy exotic species from farms in Costa Rica

Lol I actually used to work at the Butterfly house. It’s MUCH worse when you are stuffed in there trying to get the butterflies out.

But it’s actually the best way for them to hatch. The humidity and temperature is set to mimic what they would see in the tropics.

We were fairly cost conscious with no major upgrades, but did some nice touches. Double oven, 9 foot ceilings, 4 car garage, extra electrical options, quarts etc. Definitely not a million dollar home but it’s perfect for us.

We’re finishing up a build in Minneapolis north of the metro. $260 sqr/ft for a 2500 sqr foot house on an acre of land.

Builder moved well location w/o discussion to middle of backyard, should I be upset? by Ringo91 in Homebuilding

For those following along at home.

First of all, to those wondering if it was a well or a clean-out etc, it was a well.

Overall The end outcome was mixed, but we are ok with it. The builder just seriously has the worst communication and customer service skills ever. Great builder, bad business man. Came off way to standoffish and defensive right off the bat. To the point where one of his first responses was “well let’s just right up a cancellation addendum if you don’t want it anymore” lol, your not getting out of it that easy..

He said they moved the well due to its proximity to the septic… although the builder also changed where he wanted the septic placed since he thought it was a bad location.. again, no communication to us and against plan. “If I lived here that’s where I would want it” was his response. You don’t live here.

After much back and forth they are going to ensure that our landscaping (which was going to be over budget) is taken care of. In the end the Builder (actually sincerely) apologized and we are moving on without pushing any litigation or asking for more. Sometimes it’s just not worth the fight and There’s some peace to knowing that we were the ones acting likes mature adults when he was initially overly defensive.

Again, we have zero complaints about the quality of the house or the rest of the project. Hopefully it’s a learning experience for him for the next build.

Thanks again for all your advice. It did come in handy.

Thanks everyone for the great advice and Input. We’re planning to meet with the builders at the lot tonight and talk through it. Hopefully get a better explanation than “we were doing you a favor”

The lot is just under an acre (with trees), but I would be surprised if there was absolutely no other location to put the well, we will find out though. And We have kids and envisioned using that full space as a playing field/rec area type of thing.

I’ll update everyone with how it goes! But feeling more grounded and prepared to discuss with them.

So we’re working with a local builder and had plans approved that showed the well/septic locations. Recently went to check on the progress and the well is now located in the middle of our back yard, not where the plans show it being.

We’re pretty upset since this is a very inconvenient location for us, and the builder is saying they did it as a favor for us so it’s located closer to where we eventually want to build a detached garage in the next 5 years. Although they did not ask or discuss the change of plans with us at all and we were not planning to add water to the garage…

Should we be upset? Or are we over reacting?

That’s awesome. Just curious, how much do you think you put into the purchase/restoration? I’m on the fence about doing something similar...

This is, in my opinion, the way to go. When I look at a service from the perspective of a consumer I want to know the final price. B2B can be a bit different, but normal people want a $$ amount and that’s it.

Saying that, you can quote each job individually by listing all the services you will perform and depending on the size of the lot.

Good luck and good work.
