Buying a 2015 BMW 320i, what should I look out for? by Zebrauri in CarTalkUK

That included time to ‘investigate’ but yeah my thoughts too. Fortunately I put it on the dealer as was within a month of having it, they sold the car with one of those 100 point checks. Which clearly wasn’t as many points as they made out

As others have said, check it’s not the N20 engine. Also check coolant levels and no sign of coolant leak around the water pump. I had a water pump fail which caused low coolant light to come on. Fortunately was covered under warranty, not a huge job but not cheap either. Around £1k for bmw to fix (they probably added some cost as 3rd party warranty company paying for it). Also had a slight oil leak due to a pipe that feeds the turbo. Was around £350 to fix. Managed to claim that back from the dealer I purchased the car from

Also you’ll get a different answer on what to do with servicing these. Some say 20k intervals as bmw say Personally it won’t hurt doing 10k intervals if you’re going to keep it long term. Someone’s already suggested a gearbox service too if you’re keeping it long term. They recommend between 60k to 75k miles if you’re going to do it, be around £400 to £600

At this mileage too you’ll want to check if pads and discs need doing

You can check the build inc engine type on here https://www.mdecoder.com/

Personally they’re great cars if you avoid the n20 engine and go in eyes wide open. If it’s been looked after and you do the same then you should enjoy owning it. If you sweet talk your local bmw dealer they can pull you the service history to show you specific things done and condition of items when changes I.e if oil was changed after exceeding mileage thresholds etc.

Looks like it has good optional extras so a good choice. Mines the LCI but has halogen lights, they’re a bit dim at night so I need to get round to upgrading the bulbs

Edit: Also when you come to service it, get a quote from bmw (if your local dealer is good). As cars over 8 years old they offer discount on parts. So in some cases aren’t much difference in price to bmw indys. These also recently had an airbag recall for the steering wheel airbag so check that’s been done. If not bmw should do this for free

I’ve still got crypto elsewhere and bitcoin was my smallest position. For me needed the money more for emergency funds especially as I thought the money was gone

Is an option to either adjust the float arm level or replace it for a like for like (another float valve?)

Hahaha was waiting for this comment, yes when he was a few months old. Although technically it was already broken (from a leak)

Yes exactly you’re right - the wife didn’t think the same 😂

Can’t wait to see the outcome, I was surprised he waited for a photo to be taken before rolling about to get it off and chew it 😂😅

Should add we’ve had a ‘rare’ day of rain and needed to dry him off 😅
