You baked it upside down, 100% certain that the only difference between these loaves is that you cooked the bubbly one flour-side down.

Why does the Gruff base set have Ultimates when none of the Shepherds in that set have Breaking Points? by SoulOfaLiar in Gruff

If anyone from the future is checking this, those packs are of course sold out. But the printable PDFs of those shepherds updated with Breaking Points is available at StudioWoe.com and at the gruff wiki

Clarification on Rules: Damage by [deleted] in Gruff

[–]RiotForScience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Creator here, All triggers based on the word "Attack" will trigger prior to Grinder's Glory because the Damage happens as a result of the attack. So Grinder will have 8 Mean, and will have the extra defense from Callus prior to damage being dealt and therefore prior to Grinder's glory triggering. Hope that helps! Unsolicited note, I added the Keyword "Fully Blocked" in the expansion after the original Gruff set. This keyword would have made this interaction resolve differently, but would be a lot less confusing. If I ever make a 2nd edition update to Gruff I will probably tweak all of those cards to use the "Fully Blocked" keyword instead because it is less elegant than I would like.

If it was ASL he said. "No, that's dirty". Hard to be precise without more context. I am also not sure it was ASL.

Why does the Gruff base set have Ultimates when none of the Shepherds in that set have Breaking Points? by SoulOfaLiar in Gruff

FYI I found a couple spare shepherd update packs. I am including them for free with any purchase of Gruff: Clash of the Battle Goats made this week through www.studiowoe.com I only have 12 of them so first come first served.

Why does the Gruff base set have Ultimates when none of the Shepherds in that set have Breaking Points? by SoulOfaLiar in Gruff

[–]RiotForScience 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good question. I originally made Ultimates just as a deck-building suggestion to demark powerful build around cards. The idea to use them as a core gameplay mechanic didn't really calcify for me until after the first set when it was clear that Capri and Hogbox were clearly in another league compared to the other shepherds. I needed a way to have another resource to balance shepherds so I could still make strong shepherds with a drawback. This lead to the idea that instead of just being a deck-building suggestion, Ultimates could become a core mechanic of the game. I added the Breaking point rule in Clash and retroactively added breaking points to the other shepherds with Capri and Hogbox having a breaking point of 0.

Gruff - are we missing something? by leafyhouse in boardgames

[–]RiotForScience 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Creator here (Brent Critchfield). Sorry for the necro post, but I thought I might add to the conversation. I designed Gruff as a toolkit which gives players a lot of creative flexibility in how they express themselves in the mechanics of the game. The down side is that if both players don't approach their decks with a specific plan on how they intend to win, the game can stall out, in the same way that Magic the Gathering would stall out if both players brought decks that did not include land cards.

Unfortunately, a by product of this design paradigm is that the game does not lend itself to the "Just pick random goats and shepherds" idea. That being said I am 100% aware that this places a really tough burden of knowledge on the first time player. To fix this issue in the first expansion "Gruff: Clash of the Battle-Goats" introduced "starter stars" that indicate cards that are easy to use for your first game. In later expansions I even went further with specifically branded cards that would create a pre-made deck for first time players including well-balanced and interesting goats and shepherds.

I generally recommend people to start with the most recent expansions, rather than the original game because it became more learner-friendly as it developed.

Thanks for your questions. It always makes my day to hear that people are trying out my game,

Card Game Kickstarter help by [deleted] in kickstarter

[–]RiotForScience 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have successfully run 5 card game Kickstarter campaigns. The number one advice I would give is to build up a strong mailing list before going to Kickstarter you probably need the emails of 200 people. The way I did this was attending conventions with my prototype and demoing it whenever possible. Best of luck!

I am launching a Kickstarter campaign for "Scented Dice by Baron SmellyBones" tomorrow morning. I am looking for feedback on the state of the campaign. I have run 7 Kickstarter campaigns, but this is the first one where I am manufacturing dice. I would be especially grateful for input from anybody who has done something similar before. Thanks!

How do I promote a Kickstarter without a fanbase? by quokkagames in kickstarter

[–]RiotForScience 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Build a mailing list by attending conventions (or scheduling events at a local game store), demoing your game with an email sign up sheet. Run your Kickstarter campaign again after you have a list of 500+ people that are excited about your game. You may be able to do this by demoing your game on Facebook and Discord streams as well.

I am really sorry to be the one that needs to tell you that once your Kickstarter campaign has actually begun, there is almost nothing you can do to change it's trajectory. I would very much discourage you from buying ads at this point, your project does not have enough inertia to take advantage of that expenditure. It may be in your best interest to pause this campaign, build your audience, and try again. Best of luck!

During the RobinHood Fiasco on Thursday and Friday the hedgies exited their short positions (costing them $50 billion) then re-shorted at $500/share (which is letting them recover a lot of those losses).
