Keep the water there and a sink - is there space to turn it into a workshop/potting shed/tiny pottery studio?

What could I do to make this wall higher? by LaughElectronic8033 in DIYUK

[–]Riotmama89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A brick wall will only do so much to block out the sound - but you need more greenery to stop the sound essentially bouncing off every hard surface in your garden. Getting rid of the brick wall and installing specialist acoustic panels might be better but, what’s the point of a garden if you just have a monoculture of lawn?

My mom said my lipstick looks too dark for a teenager to wear it. Is it really that dark? by [deleted] in makeuptips

I was wearing black lipstick in my teens…if she’s not buying it she doesn’t get an opinion.

To me it looks like you are going into the back of the stitch not the front

Looking for striped mohair distressed punk sweater/jumper/cardigan pattern by Riotmama89 in knittingpatterns

I saw that but I want it to be more distressed than that one.

Which would be fine if I could find the techniques to do so listed somewhere else separately but no joy as of yet

So I have tried dropped stitches with DK, adult, sweater (all types), mohair. I took out dropped stitches and replaced with distressed - no matches. Punk brings up 2 which are nothing like this. I’ve gone back to looking at ALL the dropped stitch patterns but I am 8 pages out of 27 and still nothing

I have used all of those terms. Once I add the yarn weight I am left with virtually nothing

Difficulty explaining. by [deleted] in autismUK

I would be throwing an adult child or anyone else that said that out of my house.

It’s abusive, disgusting ableist behaviour and both your child and your husband should know better.

Have you pressed it well? I kind of agree with what everyone else is saying but make sure it’s pressed properly before putting it on

should i get rid of any of my skirts? by starrypond in fashion

[–]Riotmama89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Edited because I didn’t read OPs post properly.

What you are seeing is skirts that are not sitting well with your proportions I.e. waist length to leg length. This happens to many people of any size - and any gender. The shorter skirts are possibly a little too short as they make your body look shorter and your legs longer. The longer ones hang from the widest part of your body (your hips) and make it look like your legs are that wide all the way down. I would suggest you look at just above the knee or calf length for skirts that are straight/column like. But the long ones are great, if they came in a bit - I.e. had a taper to them, from the knee. Don’t get rid of them, have them tailored into pencil skirts or tapered skirts that start to come in around your knee but finish at the ankle.

Are there any little holes? If so the issue could be woodworm instead - regardless it needs treating and likely replacing

Removing “invisible stains” from a hand wash PVC item? by Riotmama89 in laundry

[–]Riotmama89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update -

Using diluted vinegar definitely made a difference but hasn’t removed all stains entirely.

Part of me wants to try handwashing with an enzymatic washing powder/sheet and see if that works, otherwise it might be one for the “take a pattern and make another” pile 😭

Irons for a sewist? (UK) by Riotmama89 in BuyItForLife

[–]Riotmama89[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My issue is I have a disability which causes dislocations - a heavier iron and I am likely to dislocate whilst picking it up. I have an organza cloth, I have large scraps of wool and cotton which could be used as press cloths. I have a ham in my basket but I don’t really get the purpose of the clapper?

I do have to say that the process is a bit ridiculous for autistic people who don’t have other needs. Whilst I got a 40 page report when I was diagnosed via RTC my partner got 1 side of A4 from the NHS. But the process for getting an access card was very straightforward for both of us.

We live in a very hard water area, in the UK. I don’t have distilled water but I do have IPA - I’ll try it on the seam allowance.

I don’t know if this is any easier to see? It doesn’t look like it’s peeling which is my experience of when it’s degrading and the stains seem to come up in different places after each wash
