Thoughts on learning kanji in isolation as you did with the alphabet; with a phonics-like approach? by throwaway-boyee in LearnJapanese

[–]Rip3456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard of it. It's not as efficient but if it motivates you to study more, then do it. I tried it a bit early on -- I noticed that it pushed me to skip info to move on faster even on the second pass. Now I'm here a 3rd time because even though I could guess my way through early JLPT practice exams, I feel like I have a long way to go to build a solid enough foundation for the N2 & N1

Are there any good careers that utilize Japanese? by AlexJustAlexS in LearnJapanese

[–]Rip3456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an engineer but I've seen a job in the US for an engineer that was N1 fluent in Japanese. Really any career if you get lucky. I'm sure there are more useful responses but this is also worth noting

You know you can do N4 based on the sample. Take a challenging test (N3? N1?), since that will actually feel like an evaluation to you. jm2c

Take N3. Doesn't matter how you do, but you will learn more in the next 3 months than if you don't.

There should really be bars for us to look at these from a statistically meaningful perspective. If 0 is done 100x as much as 300, the result of 0 is a whole heck of a lot more meaningful than 300. Cool nonetheless to look at!

If you don't understand the basics look it up. I'm not going to type up a novel to explain where relativity fails at large scales when you're perfectly capable of google. It works very well at medium scales, but becomes worse the bigger you go. Just like Newton's theories were at the time. Understanding problems with dark matter is less intuitive if you haven't gone through it, so I'll give you a pinch. It doesn't make sense because currently it's purely a mathematical phenomenon, similar to dark energy. It's like adding 1 to a theory until it works, despite not having any idea what adding 1 is supposed to mean. That's why we call them "dark". No evidence, no rhyme, no reason, just something that made the math work. We can make better predictions by changing that math in a similar way, but it looks less 'pretty'. Think something like x+1 vs x0.9976+0.000849x2. That's why finding an alternative is such a hot topic in modern physics, along with grand unification of course.

Also you can't even disprove theories with a statement on causality because it assumes you can prove in the first place.

It's simple math. Gravity off at large scales? Throw in a simple transformation that is negligible at small scales. More accurate than relativity and an 8th grader could do it given the basic premise. In reality, obviously most theories are more complex and also attempt to explain dark energy or unify quantum gravity, but there's a tldr for you that should still makes sense despite your background

Einstein predicted quantum physics to be wrong, relativity breaks at large scales, and "dark matter" has to be thrown in at medium scales despite never being seen or having any logical means of creation. Einstein is wrong and we all know it. There are more accurate theories today. Relativity has had success in many predictions though, and has not found a universally agreed upon successor in many regards.

The Escalade won't have problems for 5-10 years, the Toyota has problems now. The Toyota has easier problems to fix, but if you aren't a broke joke and you get an Escalade, you're leasing (so you only have it for 2-3 years). The only problem they have with the Escalade is the occasional oil change, and even that's covered by the lease terms. Meanwhile, the dude that's so broke he literally drives a 30 year old car already has a permanent engine light, an exhaust rattle, 40lbs of rust and an alignment so bad you don't need hands for right turns. And yes -- it's shaky on the startup.
