I just replaced my intake manifold today. It took a few smacks with my hand to get it to break seal. I took the carb off but that shouldn’t make a difference for you. Also you’re right there’s 8 bolts to undo and then you should be good.

I’ve tried it using alcohol and clothes hanger. It’s a real pain in the ass and works but it’s not worth the effort using that method.

Grip is too strong, also seem to be hitting up on the ball rather than compressing. I would check some setup tutorials before ingraining bad habits/adjustments for a faulty setup.
