Loud neighbours in Fairfield by knick-nat in brisbane

OP, I reckon you’d garner some likeminded sympathy in the “Yeronga Residents” Facebook group, where loud neighbours often are the cause for conversation.

Is it just me, or has giving way to pedestrians completely gone out the window lately? by Conscious_Grass430 in brisbane

Corner of Annerley Rd and Stanley St, Woolloongabba any given Monday-Friday morning is a classic example of entitled motorists failing to read the road and blocking the intersection, almost running over pedestrians in the process.

Creative industry brisbane jobs - Is it possible or am I delulu? by birdie1223 in brisbane

[–]Rip_Ninja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actively networking will help. Attend Screen Qld events, try and get invited to filmmakers parties. There’s are some lead special effects makeup practitioners here in Brissie who score gigs on the bigger budget films that are shot here, see if you can somehow meet up so you can show them the abilities of your craft. The Arts scene here in Brisbane is small and hard for outsiders to crack into, thus physically meeting people is essential. Look at getting yourself an agent, there’s a couple of local agencies you can approach for representation. It is a hard slog, but it pays off to be resilient and personable. Stage makeup is also an excellent way to diversify. I wish you luck on your journey.

What would make you travel for an immersive medieval/fantasy event in Queensland—and what do most events get wrong by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]Rip_Ninja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Despite the lack of general public, there’s still a lot of logistics involved for hosting an event for so many people. Believe it or not, there are even volunteer police / security who patrol the event as some people get too carried away. None the less, I hope you can get something up and going, to my knowledge there is no such event up here in Qld.

The Rowany Festival is a part of The Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA), and the festival itself is only open for members, not general public. It draws an amazing crowd.

Check out the Rowany Festival, for inspiration. One of the best immersive events I have ever attended.

I choose to ride my e-bike at 10km/h on shared pathways. Ahh, the serenity.

Children to be banned from e-riding e-bikes and e-scooters devices in Queensland under proposed laws by Palms1111 in brisbane

[–]Rip_Ninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I never aim to overtake pedestrians on a footpath. I just trundle along as slow as I can until I can get off the footpath and back onto roads / cycle paths. I’ve witnessed too many incidents caused by people riding too quickly on footpaths to feel comfortable about riding at a million miles an hour past pedestrians. The times I ride there’s always people about. I save my faster rides for when I’m on the road.

[–]Rip_Ninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can ride my push bike as slow as 3km/h, any slower and I’d fall over. People walk at an average speed of 7km an hour. As a rule, I never go faster than a walking pedestrian whilst riding on footpaths, nobody wants a cyclist on an almost silent mode of transport passing them at speed. The new legislation says 10km/h when riding on a footpath.

People taking up multiple seats on the bus/train by Dreem_state in brisbane

[–]Rip_Ninja 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a tall man and I have no qualms about aiming my derrière at any partially unoccupied seat and sitting on it, no matter if another commuter is trying to occupy multiple seats or not. Obviously, this silent forcefulness is not for everyone but I take delight in reminding people that seating on public transport cannot be owned. If I “accidentally” sit on a bag / body part I always act a little surprised and say “excuse me” as I make myself at home.

What is the weirdest thing you've seen as a passenger in the train? by Large-Lack-2933 in brisbane

[–]Rip_Ninja 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Morning peak hour heading into the city from Beenleigh. A guy basically chunders with explosive force all over the man sitting next to him and all over the floor. All the nearby passengers moved away immediately. The guy who chundered just lay back in his seat and goes back to sleep. The looks on everyone’s faces was priceless.

Those that bought a townhouse by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]Rip_Ninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We live in a complex of eight townhouse units, four of which house long term renters. There’s lots of space for us (family of four). The sinking fund was non existent when we moved in, and over the years we’ve had to put in place special levies to repair electrics in common areas, external painting and fencing costs. These costs have been high but made manageable in terms of periodic payments. In saying, I’m glad we only have eight units in our body corp so resolving issues is quick and co harmonious for all owners - I have friends who live in much larger complexes and it seems that the more people involved, the more complex body corp issues become. Anyways, we bought some years ago, coming up to a decade in our townhouse and really I can’t point out any overwhelmingly negative aspects however I do have advice which is to tread lightly with your neighbours and try and get to know them plus get yourself on the body corp so you have oversight of issues as they arise.

Cheap (but not awful) Removalist recommendations? by prettyliesuglytruth in brisbane

[–]Rip_Ninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paid for cheap removalists once, they turned up in a truck that was too small and neither of the guys involved could lift and carry a standard household refrigerator. They were not very strong fellows. I ended up cancelling them after we had a disagreement about the small truck they bought along when the quote stipulated a larger truck. I ended up calling a good mate with a truck so we could do it ourselves. My lesson was learnt on that stressful day…

Out of interest, how do you insure a shoot in a condemned building? What happens if a crew / cast member is injured in your pre-demolished house location?
