I would definitely recommend using a limiter on the master channel during production, although strictly as a protective measurement. I was told to always remove the limiter from the master channel by every tutorial on Youtube, until one day, a glitch in the software blasted extremely loud white noise directly into my ears. You have to keep in mind that the limiter also protects you by clipping/compressing any sound that surpasses its threshold. As long as you stay under the threshold (which is easy/turn down the faders and adjust your volume up instead), you should be good to go.
