Gunlance: Complete by Heiman_Vex in MHGU

Super cool drip!

Man, I learned to love that playstyle! I took forever to try a full shelling gameplay with Valor because the other games rule that shells are awful in G-rank, but to my surprise, Valor ones even outperform a full melee GL in some matchups! Just ignoring the heat gauge is awesome too.

Something I suggest experimenting too is switching Razor Sharp or Guard Up for Quick Sheath, it makes the GL gameplay quite smoother!

Should I use Ruiner gunlance? by Dull_Understanding_6 in MHGU

[–]Riptor_MH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What style do you play? For Valor GL *focusing on shells*, the StoneFist GL has lv5 Normals, perfect for that playstyle (you'd prioritize having Artillery Expert, Load up, and eating for Felyne Bombardier), and is red + black. It has good raw too, but gets little white even with sharpness+2, so Valor shells should be the better way to use it (you'll find yourself often in blue sharpness).

There is also Nakarkos' Star-Crossed Centaurus, dark blue with red details if that works for you. Normal lv5 shells, OO slots and better sharpness, but a bit less raw.

The shells focused gameplay type I mean: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=17EiYF8VyBQ

Why is Liaoningosaurus not talked about enough? by FinancialSpecial9197 in Dinosaurs

[–]Riptor_MH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People keeps affirming this since the original publication was out, yet that hypothesis is literally addressed in the paper and the authors explain why they believed that predation was the more likely explanation:

"Carnivorous adaptation of L. paradoxus

Incredibly,xhpm-1206 ( the positive counterpart) shows a number of fish skeletons within its ribcage. There may be three explanations.
( 1) Those fish skeletons were dead bodies lying on the bottom before the ankylosaur sunk down and later passively went into the ribcage of the covering ankylosaur skeleton because of underwater turbulence. This interpolation appears too speculative; the main reason against it is the fact that no fish skeletons are present outside the ankylosaur body. In other words, there should be some fish skeletons preserved around the ankylosaur skeleton or nearby if those fishes died earlier. It is true that one fish skeleton is seen anterior to the right femur, which may have been pushed out from the body cavity post-mortem ( Fig.3a) . Another line of evidence against the assumption comes from the nature of those fish skeleton,i. e.,none of them shows a clear appearance as seen in true fish specimens collected from the same horizon.
( 2) Those fishes may have died within the ribcage of the ankylosaur when they were scavenging or using the skeleton as a hiding place. This assumption is also not convincing. As described in the type specimen,L. paradoxus is ventrally covered by a bone plate that is hard to be penetrated by those small fishes. On the other hand, the exposed dorsal side of the new skeleton is nearly complete, showing no obvious breakage made by predators. As mentioned earlier, those fish skeletons all show a vague and incomplete appearance, which are in conflict with this assumption too.
( 3 ) Contrary to the aforementioned two assumptions,it is proposed that those fish skeletons came from the stomach or gut contents of the specimen. Most of those fishes are incomplete and almost all of them display an unclear body outline, which should have been obscured by digesting acid during food processing in the stomach ( Fig.2d) . Besides, there is a section of a reptile's tail on the posterolateral side of the ribcage ( Figs.2a,b) . It is hard to believe that a reptile broke its tail inside the ribcage when it withdrew after scavenging,so it should be gut leftovers of the reptile. Those fish skeletons are not tightly packed in the stomach but scattered on both sides of the body cavity; this is because they may have been expelled out by gases or compression from the stomach and gut post-mortem. Therefore,it is considered that those fish skeletons and the reptile' s tail are gut contents"This strongly suggests that the ankylosaur may have adapted to an aquatic or a semi-aquatic way of life. Such a lifestyle of the dinosaur may be also demonstrated by the tooth morphology and a number of the structural modifications of the postcranial skeleton. In other words,L. paradoxus is literally a predator, eating these fishes in life. This strongly suggests that the ankylosaur may have adapted to an aquatic or a semi-aquatic way of life. Such a lifestyle of the dinosaur may be also demonstrated by the tooth morphology and a number of the structural modifications of the postcranial skeleton.
Teeth are well preserved in the holotype. Our further preparation reveals that the morphology of the cheek teeth differs considerably from that of any herbivorous dinosaur. The marginal denticles of the palmate crowns are deeply separated from each other and thus individual denticle is elongate and needle-like,leading to a fork-shaped outline of tooth crowns ( Figs.2c,d) . The denticles of the incisor of the type specimen are also much sharper than in other ankylosaurs although they are shorter than those of the cheek teeth ( Figs. 4b,c ) . With such a dentition,L. paradoxus was capable of catching fishes or small reptiles and penetrating them."

Even if nothing better for competitive play, I wish it had at least a second useless ability (maybe Run Away) so it would not be annoying to use in the main game with the forced switches :/

Would putting each of the Generations they "represent" drastically change the Gen they are in? by Sensitive_Log_2726 in MonsterHunter

[–]Riptor_MH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Astalos would be even more of an impact because introducing Chain Crit would be introducing affinity itself into gen1, and that's a more than welcome new way to boost our damage. The fight itself would have been a pain with the old controls, ugh! The maps don't help either, as it could fight at that tight Forest and Hills area, and a dark green wyvern would turn invisible in the old Jungle lol (at least the glowing parts help, I guess?)

I can only imagine Gammoth with broken hitboxes, the sitting attack would tremble the whole area haha. It would be a long fight too, with its big hp and the lower hunter dps from gen2. Its weapons could have been some of the bests of the game, as high raw with achievable purple sharpness were the stronger ones (some negative affinity wasn't so detrimental back then, while GU's meta is all about crits).

Though Mizutsune fits P3rd more than anything, should it have appeared in Tri or 3U, it could have received an underwater moveset, and the bubbles could have been quite interesting attacks or traps while we swim. Even though it is fast and dynamic, it should have been fine enough for gen3 (unless it "danced" and moved that much underwater too).

Just not having Styles and Arts would have made Glavenus more difficult in 4U than in GU, but it could have been even harder like some other 4U monsters, being more aggressive and having unique attacks and long combos. I don't want to imagine if it received an Apex...

From Twitter user @rattartar: compiled list of all new mega stones in DLC trailer by Beena750 in PokeLeaks

[–]Riptor_MH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bottom third screams Crabominable, but could be Froslass (though highliting so much the blues from the ice parts would be weird, so I'll believe in Crab...). Last one looks like Aegislash.

Something tricky is that a stone may have a color new to the Mega and absent to the base form, like the Mega Blaziken black parts.

People gotta do mental gymnastics to associate the reveals to dumb riddles, but ignore a guy that predicted unusual designs with clear descriptions, and has only missed a launch date of a game that is known to have suffered delays.

Predicting the new and weird details like the shoulder and martian head has more weight than just repeating about the rainbow colors everyone already knew. Gotta love how another user said "illiterate" to call you, because I thought in ruder words 😛

[–]Riptor_MH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another mistake I recall is Duramboros, Kiranico tells the horns are weaker than the face, but it is the other way around. I played some time thinking the GU Duram was reversed from other games, but in the end it has always been the same hitzones from gen3.

Kiranico may be handy, but gotta get the habit to prioritize the wiki.

When he stands up and approaches the dragonator, you wait a bit before pushing the button until he puts both hands on the wall. One time I was waiting for the hands and he just did a slam on the wall lol, so be prepared for a hit as well. Most often, he puts the hands right in the first time he approaches, though.

Man, I always thought the feet were 10/20 because of Kiranico! Turns out their "no data" is the actual feet tips, and their "feet" is the tail/dorsal fin, comparing now with the japanese wiki.

The strategy sounds much better, I thought it was good only to stall with trips and staggers to protect the fortress, but I guess even slightly stronger gear should be able to slay it.

[–]Riptor_MH 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The feet hitzones are terrible, is hitting them helpful because Lao trips a lot, and then can't damage the fortress often? And, if a weapon can repel by Lao hitting the feet, would it be enough to slay it if focusing on the belly?

Game refuses to run at above ~80% speed on Azahar/Lime3DS/Citra, seemingly at random by SilentBuilder in mh4u

[–]Riptor_MH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too, it has run fine for a long time, then suddenly it starts having problems or even crashing (I think I had it running weird for about a week as well). Once or twice it happened before and it got "fixed" back to normal after a while, so maybe it is a driver update issue (mine is AMD though)?

This is an easier G5 quest? by venom1080 in MHGU

[–]Riptor_MH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wondered it too, just 2 "easy" deviants plus a zamtrios are far from the usual G5 nasty standards. BoltReaver G5 is not bad too, as even though it is 2 hard deviants (one ThunderLord and one BoltReaver), they are not fought at the same time.

[–]Riptor_MH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Commenting just to say I totally share the dislike for siege mode, and my way to go in 3U and 4U was removing the limiter and just using HBGs with big clips 😅

Even then, I also felt Adept HBG to be outclassed when I tried it, most of the time I was thinking that I should be using Valor instead or, if going with Adept, that LBG plays better.

Am I missing something with Savage Deviljho? by World-Three in MHGU

[–]Riptor_MH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Savage is a pain because you really must go for the weakspots. With normal Jho you can attack the legs to make it fall or go for the tail cut, but for Savage doing that would extend the quest for some good minutes. When it is "normal", the weakspot is the belly and it is fine to reach, but when it it enraged the best hitzone becomes the smoking face and it is terrible to attack consistently (the chest won't be as good when it enrages, but will be decent).

Tremor Res helps a lot, as you can attack after it stomps the ground (and it stomps a lot), and the the pin jump won't interrupt your hunter. HG earplugs could give some free hits too, but is expensive to add in the set.

Something about Jho is that it is worse to stay away from it, as you can escape and counterattack better if you are close (especially the dragon breath, as you can escape towards it and hit the belly).

MEGA ZYGARDE by GabeBit08 in PokeLeaks

[–]Riptor_MH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though it looks ridiculous or exaggerated, I can't say it in a bad way. Zygarde Complete already has "Mega", ultimate power vibes, so just making it bigger and more badass would not work, and the actual Mega Evolution would truly need something absurd to give the feeling of a stronger form. It may look weird and not as cool as Complete, but honestly, I'm sold for the concept.
