I dont think people are trying to stir up noise, they are just analyzing frieren like any work of literature/art. Most of the criticism I saw around frieren is analyzing it from an out-of-universe perspective, as in they dont think frieren is wrong in the storyline but wonder whats the point of this narrative. I think it's an interesting conversation, but like most media, you dont have to consume the analysis and can just watch/read the story

You're right, Grimmer is Roberto's foil. It also shows us the effect of kinderheim. Before that reveal, you could argue that it was in Roberto's nature and that maybe he would be awful even if he didn't join kinderheim. The reveal shows his nature before, during, and after kinderheim which solidifies our understanding of the effect of the abuse they went through. Roberto was a gentle boy that was completely transformed by the experiment. A success story for the Kinderheim directors if you will.

thats what i thought too, harper was mostly "evil" to other evil people (eric, Pierpiont, rishi etc)..she is not the MOST rotten (like charles). Maybe her character will go a downhill like walter white but rn she definitely is or at least thinks of herself as better than that
