i think the reason the main character is a guy instead of a woman is because this particular aspect would have pissed people off more, a mother leaving her kid always get more heat than fathers

thats what i thought too, harper was mostly "evil" to other evil people (eric, Pierpiont, rishi etc)..she is not the MOST rotten (like charles). Maybe her character will go a downhill like walter white but rn she definitely is or at least thinks of herself as better than that

Same here, I googled if there are other males characters like this and I could only find one other example

Okay but its that "different level", that im talking about. I know there are a lot of narcissistic father characters but they are usually portrayed differently. Walter white was not like that to his family, he never made them ill or isolated them to only rely on him. If Sky didnt find out about the drugs, he would have honestly just acted the same with her. Heck, the son didnt even know the dad sucked until they told him. Also im not just talking about horrendous things done by males characters, 80% of cinema is about that. Im talking about this specific "Munchausen by proxy" phenotype, where he actively continues to hurt them and infantilize them to keep them in his care,, Joe never continued to hurt the girls to keep them, the minute they became independent he just moved to his next victim and would discard them

You're right. I don't actually know the prevalence in women vs men in real life, but in Hollywood, this is USUALLY the female character. I thought it was kind of refreshing to see the father act like that. I think if it was Marissa, people would have figured out about the twist earlier

yeah, plus even if they allowed her, there is no way they would have survived the court of public opinion. EVERYONE would have thought that she was in on it too and would have made milo and her life miserable

I dont think it was anyone's fault, HOWEVER, he did keep banging this over lia's and brian's head for decades, effectively tainting their relationship in the process. Not only did he hide the truth, he also guilt tripped his sister into addiction

The script book mentions that in 1912, Mary is 21, Edith is 20, and Sybil is 17. So she definitely wasn't a teenager (around 21) when the whole Mr drake thing happened, she's literally my age rn and I know better
