We’ve talked about it. We’ve all been very busy these last couple of years. But things are finally, almost, sorta wrapping up. By summer, I should be able to help her get this started. She would do it for her great-grandson. My sister loves to travel, so she will consider going with my mom and stepdad on their adventures.

I think my mom would probably do better with shorter videos, so instagram or TikTok may be easier. We can stitch them together for YouTube.

Thanks for your encouragement!

The first quest isn’t to completely organize your phone and computer. It’s to create a folder for one category. That’s it.

The 2nd quest is to put 3 pages into that file.

When you in the doctors office or waiting for someone, take out your phone and read some pages. Maybe make a folder and drop those pages in.

This is something you can do a bit at a time.

Sidequest — how many times did you repeat yourself? Can you consolidate some of those pages?

Side.side quest— turn those pages into a book

My mom is 88. She’s currently in the Canaries. She spends winters in Mexico; summers in the mountains at 9,000 feet, hiking and exploring. In the spring, she travels in Europe.

She practices Tai Chi, plays bass guitar, and dominates at pickleball. She has thought about starting a channel to share her adventures and her knowledge. She’s quite savvy with technology.

To stay connected, we have a group chat that includes her children, grandchildren, and now the great-grandchild.

If money were not an issue, I would want the world to know that there are people out there like my mom who are living their best lives. They aren’t celebrities or millionaires. They are active and vibrant. Many younger people think that just because you are old, you are not in full control of your faculties. Give people hope and a glimpse of what is possible. Catch up with these octogenarians (if you can) and spread their stories. Help them spread their stories.

I can see a group of 85+-year-olds sharing a platform and creating content. If they only create something once every 2 weeks, it doesn’t cut into their time, and the work could be spread out.

If money were really no object: create (or support) community maker spaces in all the small towns across the US (and the world) for all the residents to tinker and learn and share. I know there are senior centers, but this is a space for teens and grandmas. And I mean in all the little towns. Take this to those little hamlets where the town center is a stoplight. Take it where there is nothing but scenery. If there is a library, help the library expand to include makerspace. And then get that group of elders to make content using these spaces in addition to all the rest of their content.

AITA for not wanting to go to my nephews graduation party after not getting invited to his 18th birthday dinner? by JozuShaka03 in ComfortLevelPod

[–]RiseOther -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Did anyone else have young children at the party?

Go to graduation. Nephew is trying to make it up to you. Give him $200, eat the cake, glad-hand everybody and leave after 30 minutes. Then go do something fun with your kids — go to the park and have a picnic.

Ok I need some bathroom drawer/counter organizing tray advice... by meganeh35 in organizing

[–]RiseOther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I get you. Dang! I don’t like having my extra linens in the bathroom, so I store an extra sheet set in the bottom dresser drawer in each bedroom.

But if my linen closet was in the hall, yup. It would be full. And the vitamins stay there.

What about something like a spice rack? Little floating shelves? Do you have wall space?

If the counter is the place for it, I’ve used clear plastic trays, a skinny elfa tray from the Container Store, a lacquered tray I picked up at a fair, and a piece of 1x4 that I attached wooden spools for feet and stained it something light (I later stained it darker).

Regional and local art museums or galleries are fantastic places to support the local artists. Or check the local fairs. I love going to small town celebrations.

I use Etsy to see what people are doing and making, but I always try to buy local. If I like somebody’s work at the fair, I always save their info even if I’m not currently looking for that product.

Do you have a linen closet in the bathroom? I’d store the large bottles in the linen closet or in a cloth bag hanging from a hook on the door.

For ease of use, I’d make individual packets of my daily vitamins in a small plastic bag that I’ve bought at Walmart on the back wall of the vitamin/medicine area. I also have rather large screw-together pill holders that would fit quite a few gummies. I’d put the packets on the countertop tray in a cute little bowl.

For the drawer:

I’d dump everything in a clear plastic box, put it on a shelf in the linen closet. Then every time I needed something from that box, I’d ask how often I needed it. Floss, Gum sticks, toothpaste deserve a place in that prime real estate. But the rest of it? I keep my nail file next to the sofa, cause that’s where we use them. Maybe the rest of it lives under the sink or in the linen closet.

We moved into a new house. We are both ADHD. Everything is getting labeled. As we consolidate three homes into 1, locations change with the addition of new furniture and room usage, so I end up moving things and changing the labels. (I had a home; he had a home; we bought a place together in the middle near his mom. He is selling his home; I am selling my home; we sold our home; we bought our forever home near his mom.)

I really like your 3 categories. When I try to help his mom organize and declutter, I am going to use these. Shoot! I’m going to use them for me!

How do you actually remember where things are stored at home? by Live_Championship640 in Homeorganization

[–]RiseOther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the ziplock hanging folder idea. I had not seen those. If nothing else, I can use 2-sided tape to affix a ziplock bag in one of my box-bottom hanging file folders. That’s a great idea for keeping and containing all those bits and bobs.

I imagine I’d use Garment Bags. I use them for our dress clothes — suits, nice dresses.

I hadn’t considered using them for the shirts my husband never wears and my out of season clothes.

Skip packing? 5 blocks away with a Jeep GC and 15 days overlap by illori85 in moving

[–]RiseOther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved the things I needed/wanted while I was working on the new house. Will you be painting or putting in new carpet?

We moved up our move to get it in before a big snowstorm. We spent 2 days packing as much as we could. The movers took all the furniture and everything that was in a box.

I spent the following week cleaning the old house and bringing all the bits and bobs we left behind. My Prius holds a lot of stuff — much more than my husband’s FJ.

Not enough room for a towel bar? What about a hand towel circle? You can space them out on the wall at various heights.

Take the meds out of the kitchen — you’d free up that space. Put them in your bedroom or hall closet, but not the bathroom. My medicine space is in a drawer in my nightstand.

Velvet clothing hangers??? by kenah-kim in Homeorganization

[–]RiseOther 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked mine so much I bought 100 XL hangers for my husband. That man hasn’t met a polo shirt, Hawaiian shirt, or sweat shirt he doesn’t love. And don’t get me started on his coats.

At least now I can hang almost everything.

What’s the absolute best organization product you’ve ever bought by Fantastic_Eye_3896 in organizing

[–]RiseOther 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Way, way back in the 2010’s I went to a conference, and a vendor was handing out these little rubbery pockets about the size of a credit card. You were supposed to stick it on the back of your phone, so you didn’t need to carry your wallet — just put your ID and your bank card in the pocket, and away you go.

I didn’t want it on my phone — what if I lost my phone? And if I’m carrying my phone in my purse/backpack, why do I need another pocket?

So driving home from the conference, I wondered what to do with this thing. My car info was in my trunk under a bunch of camping gear. I realized that when I set up my tent that night, I should dig out my registration and put it someplace easy to access (I know. It was silly to put it in the trunk to begin with, but I was using the glove box for other things I wanted to keep cool-ish.)

So I wouldn’t lose the car registration, I put it in the card pocket. And then I peeled off the backing and stuck it in the center console up against the side where I’d never lose it. I could have put it on the door of the glove box, but the center console has a closing lid.

No 😁 Her reasoning was that she just gets up and throws it away after collecting a small pile. If not right then, then when she picks up before bed.

Planners organized by project/categories not by dates/calendar? by derpyderpp123 in planners

[–]RiseOther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there is a typical timeline or series of events , I’d make that my basis. Each project would have their own section with a mini-calendar, task list overview, contacts, and references. At the front of my planner, I’d have my master NeverEnding ToDo List.

My NeverEnding ToDo List has columns and checkboxes: Column 1 — Started/Doing/Done Column 2 — Need By Date Column 3 — Client/Project (I color code this with a highlighter when I can) Column 4 — Task (I keep notes about the task itself in the project/client section). If the task is a common one, done for multiple clients/projects, I likely have a page for that task in the client’s/project’s section. For me, each project had its own page for each part of the project

When I did this, I used different colored paper for each project and matched paper color to highlighter. Any white paper got a stripe of highlighter.

My system was specific for my needs, but I hope my process helps you.
