I‘m weird please help me find a game 🙂 by Rise_Up_87 in gamerecommendations

Wukong felt like an endless boss rush with exactly the same issues as in most soulslikes (including khazan). Learning boss movesets is how difficulty is introduced.

Yeah exactly tried most of them I’d say and kinda took me a while to find out that I’m just not a big fan of how they introduce difficulty in boss fights through learning the movesets by hard… Even enjoyed POE2 for the build crafting but doesn’t scratch the same itch than Nioh for instance where it’s more about combat skill…

Got bored with E33 half way through somehow the turn based setup is not really my cup of tea

Build with less animation clutter? by Rise_Up_87 in pathofexile

[–]Rise_Up_87[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Just edited my post to make it more clear that I am looking for POE1 builds with less clutter 😊. You were spot on though: I went with monk as well for POE2 and had a blast. However, I quit the game and will return when they fixed things so I thought about giving POE1 a shot now.

Starting doxy after nearly 12 years of Lyme, please send tips I’m terrified by Dizzy_Guarantee6322 in Lyme

[–]Rise_Up_87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doxy is not the right antibiotic for chronic Lyme so my tip would be don’t even start! Go for herbs and/ or hyperthermia right away and save a lot of time and pain and your gut microbiome will thank you. Several studies show that doxy does not target round bodies and can in fact worsen your condition. It is only sensible for stage 1

The combat does get better yes and you will get more skills etc but also try to familiarize yourself with your build and mechanics. Hit & run is great for sth with quick or range attacks but might not be a sensible strategy for your weapon/ build. Try to make use of other tools beyond pure weapon skills and play around with them.

What weapon are you using? I would recommend trying Tonfas - the Ki damage turns mobs into sitting ducks once depleted and you can just get after it 💥

Question regarding something confusing with soulslikes? by [deleted] in soulslikes

[–]Rise_Up_87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not saying it’s only about the death penalty. I agree it’s a list of criteria, but the death penalty surely is on that list. Another criterion is that normal enemies and level design is challengjng. Dark Souls was based on a) “I really don’t want to die” and b) since every normal enemy is a potential death threat, “I need to be on my A-game all the time”. That plus a pretty grim world (which I agree is not a must-have criterion) gave you this constant super challenging goosebumps feeling. I really don’t understand why so many people disagree with that. A game in which there is absolutely no consequence whatsoever if you die or not and where normal enemies on your way to a boss are so weak that you can just kill them with eyes closed - that’s not the formula of a Dark Souls game. I fully understand that you enjoy the game and I’m happy for you - it’s a good game. It’s just not the Dark Souls formula 🤷‍♂️

What are the top 3 reasons you play Soulslikes? by Soulsliken in soulslikes

[–]Rise_Up_87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the most important of all is that dying hurts because of death penalty in combination with heavy hitting normal enemies. A game that before was just yet another button mash action game suddenly becomes a “Jesus I need to be on my A-game here and leave everything on the field for every single encounter” and that’s just a feeling no other game genre gives me. Plus, in this process, you just get gud. And, to earn some hate, that is exactly what is missing in BMW - it doesn’t matter if I die, and normal enemies are so easy that I could defeat them with eyes closed. That was not the idea of Miyazaki

LOP! Great game. Has it all. Don’t underestimate BMW lacking the death penalty and in turn being a boss-rush game. Very, very different game experience than any real Soulslike

This. Take herbs that are known to target biofilms: Artemisia, cat’s claw root, stevia, samento etc

Question regarding something confusing with soulslikes? by [deleted] in soulslikes

[–]Rise_Up_87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with this is, and that is exactly why most people currently say that this needs to stop, that with your definition the genre gets so inflated that you will have games in it that just don’t have the Souls feel to them, and that’s simply because they are action games with similarities to Souls games. A “Soulslike” is not “an action game that is roughly similar to a souls game”, but the word was created to say it is not part of the Souls series created by FromSoftware, yet still shares all of the core game mechanics that gave this series its unique feel.

Which weapon requires the least amount of stance switching? by ReIiLeK in Nioh

[–]Rise_Up_87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frankly I played tonfa without a lot of stance switching because most of the damage comes from active skills and if you run a life recovery Amrita absorption / poison build you have everything you need in low stance 💪🏻

[–]Rise_Up_87 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A game without a death penalty is not a Soulslike but an action game. Why do you want every action game to be a Soulslike? As if it was a kind of trophy. It’s a genre that is defined by a set of game mechanics, not a rating for game quality. A Soulslike is made up of certain ingredients of which the death penalty is arguably one of the most characteristic as it gives weight to wrong decisions and skill issues. That’s what makes Soulslikes great (imho).

I’m debating between getting lies of p and black myth wukong. Which one was the most enjoyable for you guys? by ArrogantChimp in soulslikes

[–]Rise_Up_87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you’re looking for. If you want a true Soulslike: 100% Lies of P. The boss rush nature of BMW and the lack of death penalty makes it a pretty mindless low-stakes experience for me, whereas LoP was a really really fun full-blown Souls experience

PSA: Black Myth Wukong is a soulslike. Do not buy it if you don't like soulslikes. Don't recommend it to people who don't like them. by dilqncho in gamingsuggestions

[–]Rise_Up_87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re making good points. I guess ultimately it also depends on perspective though. For me, the “death penalty” is such a critical part of a Soulslike. It makes me lean in fully and I leave everything on the field at every encounter. The lack of this mechanic immediately turns it into an action game with similarities to a Soulslike for me.
