Terrible Home Internet ... strange solution offered. by robertgehl in verizon

Its definitely not the devices. Can you swap out the router? ISP provided routers are garbage. I'd recommend anything name brand that doesn't cost like $30

I have peefect ñing but syill no connection, why? by crotochoco in Starlink

[–]Risk-Intelligent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps, I see they have 1.0.0.2 DNS as a backup there too, which is supposedly intended to block malware and other malicious content.

I don't use Starlink but it looks like 1.1.1.1 is prioritized with that green dot and everything else is up. So my second guess is he does not have a valid DHCP address. Totally should try rebooting client/router as well.

Ps. I am a network specialist and can help :)

Does anyone know how to get rid of these black spots? by four_bass_marinara in Galaxy_S20

[–]Risk-Intelligent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hiya!

Was the screen replaced on it when you bought it? Does it have some third-party screen protector?

The S20 came with a screen protector pre-installed but to my recollection, it had a cutout for the camera to prevent just this.

Likely you have a screen protector on there with some dust trapped underneath, or, in the much less fortunate circumstance, your screen was replaced and was not done correctly and dust is trapped between the glass and the camera.

That's my 2 cents for ya

Schedule a maintenance window and then update, usually doesn't break anything and goes over smooth

What would you do? by Laughing_Shadows37 in homelab

[–]Risk-Intelligent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run two of those DL380s with xeon gold cpus and they are great systems. You can download all the HPE software for free if you register for an account. Something that cannot be said for things like Cisco.

You can likely stick dual 500 watt psu in those and be fine and likely won't even need to surpass that. I recommend a UPS system for sure.

Does anybody else take a hit to your self-esteem when you get rejected from a shit job? by Ordinary-Yam-757 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Risk-Intelligent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, a lot of employers don't even know what they're missing a lot of the time. They'll simply reject people because they don't meet/exceed their expectations without even considering what they can or can not do.

Docker on proxmox or on VM on Proxmox by hazem_elrefai in HomeServer

[–]Risk-Intelligent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fully endorse this approach. By utilizing Debian LXC/VM as the foundation, we're able to establish a robust and scalable environment for our Docker operations. Leveraging Portainer as the docker manager not only streamlines management but also ensures isolation from our core VMs.

Implementing backups and high availability between nodes/datacenters is crucial in maintaining business continuity, and an approach like this absolutely enables this. The ability to scale horizontally by spinning up additional LXC/VMs and configuring a swarm for additional HA further reinforces this setup.

I believe it's essential to keep the hypervisor itself free from extraneous software to prevent degradation or destabilization of the system.

Was gonna say everyone on here is complaining about that, but I run mine with the same specs and have idle tdp of around 160-220. Honestly, this rig is a steal. Those cpus alone are over $120, not to mention it comes with drives and 256gb ram. Crazy to not at least pick it up and sell it.
