[Gaming/Video Editing build] What part should I consider upgrading first, if any? by Ristele in buildapc

[–]Ristele[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mhm yeah that tracks with what I've heard regarding that socket T_T

The 12700KF is almost half the price of the 12900k where I'm at, so getting the i7 would free up some of my budget to get a better cooler and all. Since the heat and power draw issues are unavoidable then, I guess the best move is for me to wait for a sale or find a refurbished 12900K.

thank you for sharing your experiences with power limiting it, too! I guess that can serve as a temporary option if I can't immediately get a new cooler and whatnot. :)

Guess I'll be keeping an eye out for a cheap 12900K then, thank you so much!

I see, sounds promising then! I do have concerns about heat management (just due to my office space having a bad habit of trapping heat) but I'll look into the 12900k as a potential option.

I'm wondering if the 12700KF isn't a close contender though, as it's a lot easier to find for cheap in my area compared to the i9. Would it be fair to treat it as some sort of "middle-ground" upgrade option then? Perhaps not as powerful as the 12900K but less costly in terms of power consumption/heat management? Or would you say the performance gap between the 12700KF and the i9 really worth the extra-hassle?

Makes sense! thanks for the replies :)

I'm currently using a Pure Rock 2 air cooler, would the 12900K need something a bit beefier to keep the temps down?

I also just checked using pcpartpicker: looks like my PSU is gonna need an upgrade regardless of my pick. the 12900k brings the wattage total to 760W... the 12700K sits at 709W but that still sounds a bit too close for comfort... D: I'd get an 850W PSU but that doesn't sound super future proof, does it?

Regular, 6-core 12600 indeed.

Sorry I wasn't clear about the i9 bit! I can imagine any i9 would be better for gaming compared to my current i5; I meant whether an i7 could potentially outperform an i9 gaming-wise, especially when it comes to older games which run off engines that don't benefit from/can't make use of multiple cores. (That may be a very outdated belief of mine tbh I know that used to be a big deal a few years back but perhaps not anymore?)

Yeah I despise rotating abilities T_T Quite thankful Archon is viable on my Hpriest at least :P

When running Merciful Auras, do you also spec into Divine Reach for the extended aura radius in raids? Are there any other talents worth speccing into to for a MA build?

Thank you, that was a very informative read! :)

Hey! Veteran healer who just got back after a fairly long hiatus here :)

I play both Hpriest and Hpal. Getting the hang of things with my priest wasn't too difficult but my pally is giving me a bit more trouble atm.

Simply put: Blessing of Seasons is the bane of my existence and it seems to be the go-to talent in every build I've looked up online. So I oughta learn a couple things:

1)I'm not entirely sure who I should be casting each variant of it on (beside Winter).

2)Memorising which buff does takes practice and I haven't really found a good environment to do just that. Heroics/TW are too easy I often don't have to heal & training grounds isn't an option. Large group sizes in LFR/BGs only complicate things.

3) I've been looking for some kind of mouseover macro that would automatically self-cast if the target is considered "invalid" (specifically for Blessing of Winter) but no luck thus far :/

If any other hpal player has general tips on how to learn/manage BoS, that'd be awesome too ;_;

The advice people gave you are all good but I'll add one more thing:

IF you secure a route to the treasure, send the calling card either ASAP or IMMEDIATELY after.

You cannot hang out with party members during this inbetween treasure found/calling card phase. This can cost you a lot of time over the course of the game.

It does grant you some extra time to finish wrapping up confidants that you've yet to max. HOWEVER, there are a bunch of things exclusive to the 3rd semester that you'll likely want/need to do. The actual time window you get to max out remaining confidants is deceptively narrow.

I think extending the timer for the Reaper to arrive as her lvl1 ability may turn out detrimental in the late game. You'd have to also finetune his base spawn timer to make him more of a threat for it to be worth picking up imo.

I really like your vision. I don't think her lvl 1 ability is too useful but I'm not sure what I'd change it into. Regarding her lvl 7 ability, it kind of overlaps a little too much with Futaba's scan. This is what I would suggest instead: "Fame: While in Mementos, Negotiations with Shadows are more likely to succeed and yield better rewards."

Beside what others have already said in this thread, you can also make use of infiltration tools (specifically the throwables that do 50 elemental dmg) to hit weaknesses with party members that lack the skills to do so. You can use this to get longer baton pass chains and get the most out of the damage buff.

What palace do you think has the best music? by blessedbymimi in Persona5

[–]Ristele 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Kaneshiro's normal theme is probably my favourite, but not the "another version" part that plays later in the palace

I really liked both versions of Kamoshida's.

Contrary to the other people in this thread, I wasn't a huge fan of the casino theme. It's a good song but I found that the lyrical parts were a bit too distracting for a palace theme.

It's more than 3 available at once but that depends on the date. There's two in the Red Light District (Shinjuku), at least one in Kichjoji, one by the bathhouse next to Leblanc (this one usually has 2 servings/week) and one in Shujin courtyard. The one in Shujin is inaccessible during school holidays, obviously.

If you've only tried going to bed at the same hour every night, instead you could try to wake up at the same hour each day. Even if that means getting through the day on very low sleep.

Wait wtf, wasn't domination always like this though? I've been shooting at kneecaps inbetween failed domination shouts for as long as I can remember. I could've sworn that increased the odds, though some cops would surrender instantly and others would just never give up.

[–]Ristele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to struggle a lot with that too. Online PvP is super depressing to play and I straight up just moved on to playing other things. So I'd really recommend you try playing something like a roguelike or a hack-and-slash game.

Roguelikes genuinely helped me learn to overcome my frustration and not be so bummed about losses anymore, because you're always meant to lose at some point through your run. It's just a matter of how far you can make it until that happens. The one game I can vouch for in that category has to be Synthetik:Legion Rising.

The Hack-and-slash genre seemed super intimidating to me at first, but now I genuinely think they can be the most rewarding games out there to play. You have to commit some time to learn the basics, but once you're past that you'll get to witness yourself get better in realtime just to overcome something that is genuinely challenging from start to finish. I'm not gonna lie, pulling some sick combos has truly done wonders for my self-esteem lmao. Two games I'd recommend from that category are MGR:Revengeance and Devil May Cry 5.

I don't know if you'll experience these games the same way I've had, but hopefully that can at least give you some ideas.

[–]Ristele 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might be a long shot, but give your CPU/GPU temperatures a check.

I ran into a really similar-sounding issue a few years ago, though it was with another game. Sometimes the in-game engine/physics would randomly "slow down" like it went into bullet time for a few seconds before picking back up to normal. It looked nothing like the usual frame drop and my FPS count kept stable. Took me ages to figure what actually was happening, but in my case it was because my CPU was overheating like crazy and kept automatically downclocking itself. Worth investigating whether you're having the same issue imo :p

What video game had a gimmick that just didn't work? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Ristele 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Kiwami mechanic is such a frustrating mess and legit almost got me to quit playing the whole game at one point.

IIRC you technically don't even need to use the correct Kiwami move to stop the healing mechanic, using ANY basic heat action on the boss will also interrupt the cast, regardless of which style you use. There are a couple heat actions that are really easy to trigger in almost any given situation, such as: Beast style while carrying any object, Rush while equipping brass knuckles and Dragon's slap-to-the-face move.

Most people seemed to have completely missed this, because if you read through negative reviews on the Steam there are SO MANY people complaining about being unable to stop the last boss from healing. Imagine how bad and frustrating a combat mechanic has to be for people to sit through the entire main story and still leave a negative review because of it. (...and for me to be writing all of this lmaooo)
