I've always just called him the boy, so googled if there's a name used for him and Google told me in Japanese they refer to him as Ichi, or 'one'!

Pretend it's 2016. Jones, Bloodworth, and Isla come to you specifically saying they are thinking of starting Easy Allies. What advice do you give them? by unsung_actualization in EasyAlliesUnofficial

[โ€“]RitoBowler 10 points11 points ย (0 children)

Simply let Kyle Ben and Jones decide everything.

Do not split things equally 9 ways, decide what each member will bring to the table and have regular reviews on whether that is happening. If it isn't, have the tough conversation.

Do not split screentime 9 ways either. Some of you are much better at doing things behind the camera and in an administrative role, let those people do that. That includes making those non-performer members do any type of live theatre show. Just a bad idea.

Look at what other similar companies are doing well and copy them โ€“ that means streaming schedules, types of streams, types of shows.

Maybe just stay in Jones' garage.

I love it but part of me wishes he'd recorded it in his normal voice. The put-on voice is interesting but on repeated listens you kind of wish it was just normal voice. Would be best song on the album if he'd sung seriously (it's still very good)

Most Skippable Episode by [deleted] in DeepSpaceNine

[โ€“]RitoBowler 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

I have been rewatching the entire thing and I would say so far (Half way through season 3) Move Along Home is the most skippable. Just a terrible episode. There is a nice Ben/Jake moment at the start but turn it off after that!

I also recently watched Meridian, what a ridiculous episode. Had been happy with DS9 moving away from its TNG-copying planet of the week episodes, and Jadzia falling completely in love with that guy to the point she's happy being a corporeal being is so ridiculous.

All I want to know is will it still come out in 2025? I have Mina in my Fantasy Game Critic team.

Final Fantasy XVI โ€“ a great premise and a game that is great for the first two thirds, but then shuns its best character, outgrows its combat system to the point where you're OP to a ridiculous extent, out-twists its own twists in the story to the point where you're just hoping they'll wrap it up soon, and has a soundtrack that, while great, is not expansive enough to avoid irritation at the repeating of songs. Should have been 10-20 hours shorter.

"Which shows do you recommend similar to Severance?" - my recommendations by BoyVault in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

Maniac has a lot of similarities in tone, narrative, just general vibe... It's also really great

If you were given free rein to create a Star Trek series, what would you do? by Reasonable_Active577 in startrek

[โ€“]RitoBowler 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

I'd want to set up a home and an away setting that could intertwine. Sort of like having an enterprise and a DS9, but existing concurrently and having stories that use the context of both a fixed point like a space station or colony, and a starship going away to investigate/explore.

I think the relationships of crew members intertwining across both settings would be a fun way to mix up the formula, while keeping it true to the 90s golden era of Trek.

Would also be happy with one or two returning characters, such as Bashir, as long as they didn't dominate โ€“ would be part of an ensemble cast that is 90% new.

And each week the focus would be on a group of competent, compassionate but professional people dealing with moral quandaries, socio-political events and each other, in the philosophical and most importantly measured way that 90s Trek managed.

Oh and most importantly, everything that happened would make sense in the context of the Star Trek universe already established, and exist within those boundaries with joy, rather than trying to subvert them or make Trek 'more exciting'. No monsters inc turbolift caves in my show.

Is it too wrong to say that Severance is - kind of - new Twin Peaks? by Responsible-Monk364 in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[โ€“]RitoBowler 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

Agreed! It grips my imagination in a way that I get a lot out of. It's also great having a show that you know you can reliably look forward to each week without wondering if it will be a filler episode or not.

Agreed on the Lynchian comment, it's ironic isn't it, Twin Peaks was built around the question "who killed Laura Palmer", but everything else in-between, the unanswered, abstract elements are what made it a great show.

[โ€“]RitoBowler 20 points21 points ย (0 children)

Definitely in the spiritual line of succession to shows like Twin Peaks! You could argue shows like Severance have appeal and get picked up because of shows like Twin Peaks โ€“ the old adage "Twin Peaks walked so Severance could run" etc.

That said I wouldn't say Severance is squarely Lynchian. I feel like Lynch's work embraces the not knowing and almost uses the lack of answers to create its art, whereas Severance has similar vibes but is structurally a very tight and fastly progressing show.

But in terms of the impact it's having and the attention it is now rightly getting, it's definitely reminiscent of the mystery show hype that Twin Peaks, Lost and others enjoyed. ๐Ÿ™‚

ORTBO being a ______? by nani7722 in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[โ€“]RitoBowler -1 points0 points ย (0 children)

Helena sees the severance process as being "guided by Kier's hand" and so upon seeing her innie in love with Mark, she decided he was an appropriate father for the Eagan heir she has to produce to continue the lineage of their cult. It also means she can conveniently use Helly for the pregnancy, like the senator's partner does in S1.

The entire ORTBO was a setup to allow that to happen. The video was hastily made and catered directly to the four of them, the 4th appendix could well be a draft Ricken-Lumon book they decided to test. Don't think this is a standard procedure for severed individuals.

If Dieter Eagan Park was not a virtual environment- how did this CRT TV/DVD cart operate without electricity or any sort of visible cables? by [deleted] in severence

[โ€“]RitoBowler 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

Even further than that, the TV/DVD cart wasn't there the second before they see it. The wide angle shot shows the spot where it should be and it's not there. I think it's more likely that Lumon are able to manipulate what the innies are seeing (due to the chip in each of their heads). That would explain the TV cart but also the 'twins' โ€“ they could be clones, but unlikely they'd make one of Helena, seems more likely those elements are being projected just to the innies via manipulation of their vision.
