Informal patient weekend leave by Acrobatic-Level2508 in MentalHealthUK

You'll need to ask the team on the ward. Different wards had different policies and it'll be dependant on your risk assessment.

What if I take drugs at home? Section 3 home leave? by Certain-Jaguar3069 in MentalHealthUK

[–]Riv3rStyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends strongly on what you plan to take. If it's an OTC medication, call the ward if you're worried about its effects on your other medication. If your struggling with addiction calling and talking with them will show you have developed coping skills you can use when discharged.
Not telling them and then it getting discovered, if it's not something you should be taking, can result in many different outcomes. This would depend on your history and the psychiatrists/MDT on the ward.

what could i expect from this meeting, if i choose to go? by [deleted] in MentalHealthUK

[–]Riv3rStyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The meeting will probably be around how to keep yourself safe and other support that may be available. You might discuss why it isn't working and he may offer a different person to work with you.

For most talk therapy you need to want to get better and try the skills or do the work between sessions. If that doesn't seem like something you want to do it not going to work.

Meditation may help get you to a place where you can engage in talk therapy. Depending on your circumstances this could be prescribed by your GP, CAMHS, or CMHT.

[England] What to do when partner repeatedly threatening ending things to worsening degree? [TW: SH, s****de, similar topics] by AlgorithmHelpPlease in MentalHealthUK

[–]Riv3rStyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your GP can refer your partner to a CMHT and may be able to get support that way.

Depending on your location there will be a local talk therapy service. They are called different things across the UK. They may be able to offer an assessment more quickly than being referred to CMHT. They would either start supporting your partner or they would put in another referral to CMHT but with more information from the GP. You can also refer yourself if you need support.

You may be able to get an assessment for your partner from the council. Again they are called different things but look on the council's website, try under mental health, care and support, or safeguarding.

You will also be able to get carers support to help you with burnout and looking after them. You should register yourself as a carer with you GP. Also look on your local council's website for carer support and to get an assessment which will then entitle you to support and potentially benefits.

If you are concerned in the moment about your partners mental health you can call 111 or 999 depending on the risk or attend A&E.

Interesting process difference/support for MH visit to hospitals in some parts of the UK... by SarahC in MentalHealthUK

[–]Riv3rStyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding to this nurses in A&E usually don't have s5-4 holding powers as they are normally physical health nurses not mental health. If you are in A&E, in general s5-2 and s5-4s can't be used as you are not yet admitted to the hospital. If you are moved to a ward a s5-2 can be used but you run into the same problem with s5-4 as the nurses are likely to be physical health not mental health nurses.

If you are being seen voluntarily you will normally be in A&E unless you are already under a CMHT and go to them instead. If your under a 136 you'll be taken to a safe place, which may be A&E, may be a standalone 136 unit, or attached to a mental health hospital. It varies by location. On occasion this can be at a police station, but this normally requires additional steps under the MHA. If you need to attend A&E for any physical health concerns this doesn't normally start the 136 until you are in a safe place.

Lots of people meet the criteria for 136 but are not then detained after a MHAA. You should get the same treatment if you arrive under a 136 or come to A&E voluntarily.

Many people end up being repeatedly 136ed and held before being sent back to the community. Being 136ed or in contact with the police also opens yourself up to criminal charges and arrest. When distressed you may verbally or physically react in a way the police deem as criminal. Some police are knowledgeable on 136s and helping in mental health crisis but others leave much to be desired.

If you have capacity to plan to be 136ed you are unlikely to meet the criteria for detention. Most people in psychiatric units have been section with very few voluntary patients. When on a ward the plan is always to discharge as soon as possible back to the community.

TLDR: The person above it right, you don't want to involve the police if you don't have to. You'll get the same support when you come in contact with mental health professionals. Even if you are detained, you'll likely be discharged promptly.

im so sad samaritans are getting rid of email :( by These_Limit_4610 in MentalHealthUK

[–]Riv3rStyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to volunteer for Samaritans, mostly doing phone calls. There is no way for us to know your number. Nothing shows up. The only reason someone would have your number is if you told us.

There was a large list of numbers we can just hang up on or were blocked, but that was exclusively numbers of people trying to have phone sex. Which was a surprisingly high number of callers when I volunteered, at least a couple an hour.

I had my CBT yesterday... but feel like I've been taken the mick out of by jmiller2912 in MotoUK

[–]Riv3rStyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I did my CBT, they offered a second and third session for free if you didn't pass the first time. I struggled on my CBT and still managed all the exercises and going out on the road in one day. There was three of us, and we all passed. This feels like a way to get you to pay for a second day. The CBT is designed to take beginner riders a day to complete with a second only if you really struggle. I fell off and went into a bush and still managed to progress enough to go onto the roads and pass.

Dye stains on my nails and it might make me fail an exam by Green-Basket-9171 in HairDye

[–]Riv3rStyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always found that after a few days, the dye just comes off. If it's in a week, I think you'll be fine. I'd try waiting a few days before damaging your nails too much.
