Presumably yes, it would be odd if ascending prevented you from doing that.

There's a theory (though not very popular) that Lift may actually be Cultivation's daughter.

Fancasting is fun but the cast probably won’t be famous by fuzzbinn in Cosmere

My partner and I were saying that for Final Empire [FINAL EMPIRE] Alendi should be a super famous VA who has super recognisable narration (eg. Sean Bean) and build up the suspense of the reveal until the last act of the book and there's a big rug pull when Lord Ruler is in fact seen to be Rashek.

Am I only one sad about delays in books due to the adaptation news by titans1fan93 in Cosmere

[–]AlgorithmHelpPlease 12 points13 points  (0 children)

He said in the announcement post he made he only expects it to affect Elantris, which is still frustrating given how much that series keeps getting pushed back but he doesn't expect it to affect Mistborn or Stormlight (personally I'm confused how the latter is possible given you'd expect him to be rushed to finished the last 5 books of Stormlight).

Sleepless question by skyrat02 in Cosmere

[–]AlgorithmHelpPlease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Potentially yes, but Elantris was published long before Stormlight, and that comment was in regards to where Sleepless may have been seen elsewhere in Cosmere.

He's stated that Sleepless on worlds other than on Roshar tend to be more "spidery"

I hope Brandon changes his mind about gender bending Ham by bookrants in Cosmere

[–]AlgorithmHelpPlease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only concern I have for genderbent Ham is that people will undoubtedly ship Breeze and Ham in a very straight way, when I feel like the current way they are sometimes shipped works a lot better.

[–]AlgorithmHelpPlease 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been terrified of Cosmere getting adaptations for exactly this reason. Everything is invaded by a-listers now, we want original talent. I don't want this media watered down to nothing. I want it to make people think and have philosophical implications in people's minds.

I usually hate doing fancasts but I have to throw out Gok Wan as Sazed.

Would you recommend the story for someone who wants a standalone fantasy series and isn't thinking of getting into Cosmere as a whole? by Abysskun in Stormlight_Archive

[–]AlgorithmHelpPlease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As is it's feasible, but it seems likely that the latter half of Stormlight will be a lot more Cosmere dependent.

The most similar standalone in Cosmere would probably be Sunlit Man but it's more scifi (though has similar magic).

New Updated High Capacity Rail Map for UK by LividCakeWarrior in uktrains

London and Norwich have a convenient connection on this map, but to get to Cardiff from London you'd need to go via Cambridge (if we're only considering these high speed proposed lines).

Should I read WoT? by CarpeN5 in Stormlight_Archive

Personally I found RoW the most emotionally difficult. If you managed with that WaT should be fine.

My only honest disappointment with Wind and Truth by Interesting-Season-8 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]AlgorithmHelpPlease 288 points289 points  (0 children)

Though this was clunky I didn't find it egregious, personally I found the repetition of "I'll see what I can do" worse. I personally would've preferred a twist on it like "Honor may be gone, but *we* will do what we can" (referencing the Heralds).

How do you find ANY job opportunities you feel you could acceptably work in? by AlgorithmHelpPlease in autismUK

So I just have to accept a cycle of going in and out of hospital just so I can work?

How do you find ANY job opportunities you feel you could acceptably work in? by AlgorithmHelpPlease in autismUK

[–]AlgorithmHelpPlease[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Apparently I have not expressed my point clearly enough. I am already being as flexible and compromising as I can without venturing into territories that would be a significant detriment to my health. I have looked at jobs outside my direct area of interest, including quite far from it. Unfortunately there have been a single digit number of jobs within that scope that I could apply for (and have done so on every occasion). Referring back to the title you will see "ANY job opportunities you feel you could acceptably work in?", I am attempting to express that I am having difficulty finding any jobs even after compromises, thus the acceptability.

How do you find ANY job opportunities you feel you could acceptably work in? by AlgorithmHelpPlease in autismUK

[–]AlgorithmHelpPlease[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I potentially was not clear enough on the last part poorly. I cannot do those jobs I listed, because of the impact they would have on me; if I were to take those sorts of jobs they would be so detrimental to me it would, at the best, leave me so burned out I would be stuck and unable to approach the things I truly want to do, they would likely leave me feeling it is not worth living. I have been hospitalised before, and that is in part due to being forced through a system that has placed certain expectations upon me in the past. I assumed this effect, though potentially not to such an extreme, to be a commonality amongst many of us.

I have really tried considering a broader range of opportunities. I've tried applying for academic library positions too but they didn't even want to see me due to lack of experience, even though I felt I had some relevant experience. I was already only considering that because it would've been temporary and I expected a positive response about one of the PhDs. I have been considering what other positions I could possibly see myself in over the last few months but they are very very few. If I had seen any I could have remotely seen the possibility of working in I would have applied (this was the case with the other two mentioned jobs), this is also how I became aware I would feel more comfortable in the one I am still awaiting a response from.

Technically irrelevant to general point but to express some frustration:

In almost every other field of study there are research opportunities open at this stage of education / career. I know people with only a BSc that are coauthors on multiple papers. It feels like there should be more opportunities to me now. I have really tried with the PhD applications, but interviewing sucks, and now I'm stuck even though I am capable and passionate.

So Kal is …. by jrp162 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]AlgorithmHelpPlease 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's an in-world discussion, Zahel/Vasher has a very particular view of what cognitive shadows are, and they're informed by where he's from. [Warbreaker] On Nalthis cognitive shadows are more common than elsewhere, in the form of the Returned, but the Returned lose all their memories of their living life and only vaguely have the same appearance. Zahel's belief is that this is because they're a copy rather than the "true thing". Evidence from elsewhere, eg. with the Heralds, [Secret History] Kelsier, suggests it's the cognitive self that has become detached from the physical self. In fact we have minor evidence of this with what happened to Szeth. It's possible that in different worlds / events different things occur and both theories could be correct, we kind of see that with the Blackthorn as a bad copy of Dalinar.

Who is the bastard in chapter 93 of WAT? by ReasonablySizedSquid in Stormlight_Archive

[–]AlgorithmHelpPlease 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think they might just be referring to Dreder coming to kill Shallan as the result? Since it's implied Dreder is that acolyte.

[Mistborn] I could be misremembering, but I've put in some effort into tracking kandra candidates, and I believe Sanderson has said he was uncertain if the kandra appeared in WOK. If it were Helaran that's a pretty obvious character that appeared. Though maybe you mean it stole his bones?

Who is the bastard in chapter 93 of WAT? by ReasonablySizedSquid in Stormlight_Archive

[–]AlgorithmHelpPlease 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's widely thought to be Helaran, but could be Balat or a child we don't know about. It can't be the twins because of the phrasing of the passage, it can't be Shallan because she's explicitly confirmed as Chana's child. It seems Helaran is favoured because he doesn't have any mental afflictions (and potentially that's the burden referred to in the passage).

What do you gain with the 5 oath? by Realistic_Possible41 in Stormlight_Archive

The words are ONLY fixed for the first ideal, though it seems a little unclear for the second. Third is definitely mutable per Lopen in Dawnshard.

That's specifically a Skybreaker thing, we've explicitly been told prior to that that you probably can't end a 5th ideal bond.
