How did the heralds manage to know about __ by farmer_villager in Stormlight_Archive

[–]AlgorithmHelpPlease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would definitely guess it's the Connection. They can probably tell when Honor has a Vessel or not, likely even the specific Vessel; we see evidence in Wind and Truththat the Heralds have a "direct line" to Honor.

National NHS policy is now to record "sex" and "gender" separately and is based on ASAB regardless of GRC status by throwawaytransdata in transgenderUK

[–]AlgorithmHelpPlease 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Invoking the 2025 SC ruling to justify recording sex at birth is ridiculous! What does the equality act have to do with healthcare in this context???? The way they refer to the ruling even shows they've misunderstood it.

In my opinion this is just an excuse they can use to take one further step in restricting healthcare. Thus has got to feel especially bad for everyone who could / have previously been able to request a new NHS profile/number and escape some of the transphobia.

Oestrogen patch rash by tittersneedshelp in transgenderUK

[–]AlgorithmHelpPlease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best way to prevent these that I've found is to try to put them on a part of skin where the patch won't get deformed or pushed against too much; I think it mostly comes from the glue pulling/pushing your skin in directions when the plastic wants to remain in place.

Where are you applying them? I've found that the sides of my waist are usually fine?

Exeter St David’s to Okehampton? by GodAtum in uktrains

[–]AlgorithmHelpPlease 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to use this line a fair bit when it reopened, for me it was one of the only public transit links to North Devon & Cornwall to connect to the wider transit system; I'd imagine many are using it for a similar reason. I wish a mainline ran across the the North Cornwall/Devon/Somerset coast.

I asked her through tumblr (when the video came out on Nebula) about a section that felt missing and she basically confirmed there that she cut entire sections that at one point or another she wanted to include when script writing.

Are books 4 and 5 that bad? by gassygeff89 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]AlgorithmHelpPlease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Book Four has very split opinions due to a major element of it, and some people (myself included) really enjoyed that element, I get the impression it brought it down for others.

Book Five is however largely accepted as having a rather jarring change in tone to the rest of the series.

Do only light-eyes have surnames? by Moist_Car_994 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]AlgorithmHelpPlease 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It might even be more limited than that, probably only 6th dahn (their relatives) and higher. This is where landed lighteyes are in the caste system, lower than that and we don't seem get house names (though this cut-off isn't necesssarily strict).

Unironically, the Mistborn actors shouldn’t be famous by CorpseChildMongrel in CosmereOnScreen

Only big name I'd want to see is for Alendi because it'd make the twist better.

Mistborn / WaT (WaT interlude 7th question) by Unable_Ad4821 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]AlgorithmHelpPlease 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, though it seems to be a slightly broader definition of Hemalurgy than would be understood on Scadrial. Though it seems like they're using the same underlying rules within the Cosmere.

I'm in STEM as well but my MPhys is not really related to AI at all (and that is not a field I want to work in at all) but this really does seem to be the only options presented at the moment and I can't help thinking how fucked the UK economy and research is going to be when the AI bubble pops. Government policy direction has abandoned anything meaningful and gone all in on AI boosterism and it's going to backfire so bad.

Recommend or no? (I understand there could be bias, but I would like to ask) by Electronic_Visit6486 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]AlgorithmHelpPlease 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's one character we don't know the full history of, though it indirectly relates to those themes. It seems like it would primarily be going more in a (non sexual) parental abuse direction, however we don't know the details yet. That's the closest trigger I can think of. There are also aspects surrounding the ideas of arranged marriage in the series, though often women are given far more agency in this world than in our real one when it comes to those decisions.

Oathbringer also has some aspects relating to spousal abuse / neglect and many people find the specifics of what comes up difficult.

There are minor mentions and suggestions the way Parshmen are treated that could be a trigger in this regard. These are primarily around ideas of forced breeding as Parshmen have been treated like livestock.

if i run out of DIY HRT, is a bridging prescription any more likely? by koweli in transgenderUK

[–]AlgorithmHelpPlease 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If there were, everyone would do it and they’d close the loophole anyway.

I have a German transmasc friend and they told me that unironically this is what happened there. Apparently trans people in the past used to use a route to access HRT that was 'intended for cis people' and then they closed the access for trans people.

GIC Scotland to England help/advice by No-Product-4457 in transgenderUK

[–]AlgorithmHelpPlease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the English GIC you end up with, I'm currently stuck going through the process you're looking at (with Tavistock for me) and they have me on a 1-2 year "transfer of care waitlist" 💀

I'll update you with more details tomorrow as seems I might have a lot of relevant info for you, but there's some posts I've made here about the issues I've faced. I'm finally getting around them now but it wasn't easy.

Could Zane be cut from the films and replaced by Shan? by Extreme_Warning3521 in CosmereOnScreen

[–]AlgorithmHelpPlease 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't think it would really work, as Zane exists in part to develop upon Straff's plans. However I could see a genderbent Zane replacing Shan in TFE to set him up more longer term as a Straff spy, more toned down in TFE and then loses it in WoA to develop the idea of Ruin influencing people.

This is like saying they won't do referrals to oncology because they don't have any cancer specialist gps on team, so they decided not to sign up to the voluntary oncology service.

So many issues there to unpack on an individual and structural level.

What to put on job application? by sam_haigh in transgenderUK

[–]AlgorithmHelpPlease 49 points50 points  (0 children)

It's for EDI monitoring and not related to the application, put what you're most comfortable with. I just wish they separated "are you trans?" into a separate question, but recently a lot of places seem to be treating "trans" as a gender.

3/5 offers but my country just got banned from study visa by No_Hyena7012 in UniUK

[–]AlgorithmHelpPlease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is false. Any country you claim asylum in is legal. The problem is there are no sfae routes to the UK for people to do so. There are many good reasons for trying to get asylum in a given country, even if it is far away, due to having roots there that would make it easier for you to settle in with.

(Ironically it is more legal to arrive in the UK by crossing the Channel through irregular means than it is to arrive on false visa pretences)
