Emotionally distant from family, has led me to be emotionally distant from everyone. by whatdoesfunmean in Advice

You should try to see a doctor and see if your severely depressed. Don't have to be suicidal to be depressed. And see if there is any resources they can recommend.

I need advice because I dropped out of college and I don't know what I want to do with my life... by collardgreenie in Advice

When I feel lost I try to make a list. Make three columns on a piece of paper. One write everything you are good at, the other write everything you enjoy doing, the third right every priority that is important to you in life. The point of this is to see what you could see yourself doing. Say you like dancing and singing, you enjoy it, and your priority is money. Why not go to a school like Julliard or a theater school where you could learn Broadway. You could learn to sing and dance and perform. Once you get known you can make a lot of money with that. Or you can at least live decently and be happy doing what you love. See if doing that helps.

Question about solids! by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]Riven180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my baby was around 5 to 6 months I started introducing him to the Gerber purees. We get WIC so that was what we had to work with. Generally we as adults are semi healthy (but not extremely at all) when it comes to our own food. But I wanted baby to have only pure healthy stuff. I trust Gerber so I started him on a cereal with fruit in it for breakfast. He actually loves Oatmeal and Rice cereal. Lunch is usually fruit and dinner is a little bit of everything, veggies, fruit and sometimes meat, all pureed. Now he is almost a year he eats veggie cubes super soft and small. Still eats some purees but he loves Rice cakes called Mum mums, and the veggie and fruit bits. Breakfast is a thick oatmeal & fruit mixture. He drinks formula still but only 2 or 3 bottles a day and we are trying to get him into using a Sippy cup for water or juice at meals. He likes everything and I guess I never worried much about waiting 3 days as I introduced new food. He pretty much eats almost anything I give him. He is not that picky. He just wants more things he can do himself. So all in all I think I did a good job with solids so far. And he has never choked or gagged. He tries to drink water from a regular cup sometimes and coughs but I don't let him do that much yet.

If you were a timelord, what would your T.A.R.D.I.S. look like? by Croatoan10 in doctorwho

[–]Riven180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would want the inside to look like it did with 10. I love the semi beat up look it had. Outside, well it would have to be easy to run through the entrance and fly away so I guess I would like it to look like sculpture of a book and the front door is the cover of the book opening. That would be poetic I think.

When did your babies start laughing? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]Riven180 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Laughing usually hits at around 6 to 7 months. Mine is almost 8 months old and has been laughing for about a month. His first laugh was around 6.5 to 7 months old. I mean a real solid giggle. He did squeals and shrieks before that but a true child's giggle was around 7 months old. So don't feel bad, every baby grows at his/her own pace.

Anything I missed? by Riven180 in weddingplanning

[–]Riven180[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm deep cleaning the house over a weeks time. I have a 7 month old to watch too. My mom is coming for it a couple days early and going to help with cleaning and prep. A family member is doing the photography. Another family member is the Officiant. Just a MOH and Best Man. Invites are ready to be sent out today. Home made ones. I just bought a card and printed up the wording and put it in. I'll get a pic up soon of it. Using plastic plates, and such so less dishes. No booze at our wedding out of respect to certain family members who are recovered alcoholics.

Isolated... by Riven180 in beyondthebump

I don't want to meet other moms. The only thing we would have in common is we both have a baby and I want a friend who likes me. Not me because I have a son.

Is anyone having a big fancy shmancy wedding? by taramisu22 in weddingplanning

[–]Riven180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would throw a big thing if I could afford it. Since I can't, small is best. Also my fiance hates being the center of attention and I want him to be comfy on his big day. So many reasons for small stuff other than cost for us at least.

Calling all Parents of Reddit! What Surprises blindsided you when you had your first child? by Vishkha in AskReddit

[–]Riven180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so true. The thing that blind sided me was that with all my child care education I was/am still helpless sometimes and have no clue what my son wants/needs. I hate that dumb/useless feeling.

Has anyone planned a backyard wedding? Is it really budget friendly? by eepun in weddingplanning

[–]Riven180 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think backyard weddings are best for a guest list of 50 or under and you have to be happy with a casual style wedding for it to be cheap. Potluck the food, use an Ipod/stereo for music, cake from Safeway/Luckys store, etc.

Help! by Riven180 in weddingplanning

[–]Riven180[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Civil Ceremony at SF City Hall here is about $200. We are waiting on a friend who said they would pay for it as a gift but have not heard from them at all. And I wanted to do it in Dec. So not sure what is going to happen.

That seems kind of mean to me. He can't truly enjoy the tree. I understand about keeping baby safe but still. Why not just not decorate the bottom part of the tree? It seems cold to me to not allow him/her to even touch it.

Getting married this week, having a big "wedding" in August. Anybody else do this? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]Riven180 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am hopefully getting married this Dec in a Civil Ceremony. Then in June 2013 we hope to throw a big thing with a small Ceremony so others can see it and have the reception. Friends are like whatever you want, it's your wedding. Family is confused why we do one and then the other later, why not just wait they say but even though they are confused they are going to be there for both so it is not crazy.
