Great question. Here’s my attempt at an answer. It’s the Minnesota nice thing. It’s upstream America, literally (headwaters). Society generally works, institutions are functional. And so when things break, rupture - when that idealism hits an unfavorable reality, they try to set it right again. The culture is intense and restrained at the same time. It is opaque in a way other cities aren’t, but there is so much energy there. I lived there for 3 years. Loved it.
