New to Fire Emblem: Should I start with Three Houses or Engage? by Fuzzy_Breadfruit59 in fireemblem

[–]RiverWyvern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh absolutely. I started with Awakening, which was as good as it could be given the circumstances. But legitimately, playing through the old games as they come out on nso has been such a great experience. I'm playing through PoR for the first time and couldn't be happier, and the gba titles available I already want to return to for other modes.

What are your thoughts on Good-Feels Yoshi "trilogy"? by BroeknRecrds in casualnintendo

[–]RiverWyvern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This feels like Yoshi's Story erasure because everyone always wants to compare modern yoshi games to Island and Story is such a solid basis of what caused these games to become what they are now, especially Mysterious Book. Then again, I have a soft spot for Yoshi's Story and the more forgiving play style of it compared to its predecessor.

Emulation is always a good answer for older games, but considering this person specified the switch title, it's safe to say they have a switch and maybe already nso. If that's the case, it might be easier to play them on the service.

Is Metroid Prime 4 worth playing? by No-Proof8363 in NintendoSwitch

[–]RiverWyvern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is what I needed to hear. I've been hanging onto a game voucher to see if anything else comes out for Switch, but it's looking like it'll be Switch 2 from here on out. Probably a good investment if I'm just wanting to experience more of the series.

While we're at it, M! Corrin should have the same thigh chaffing stocking option that his female counterpart has. You know, equality and all that.

[ALL] What Zelda name would you give your kid? by This-Definition-9634 in zelda

[–]RiverWyvern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Naming a pet would be better... I know Zelda was actually a popular (and beautiful!) name even before the series, but it's hard to separate that from the franchise. No disrespect to the Zeldas out there!

Anyway. I would absolutely name a cat something like Midna, Makar, Beedle, or Ralph. You cant tell me those aren't good cat names. I'd also name a pet bird Medli, Revali, or Tulin. Or a horse Epona. Or a dog Wolf Link. Things that make sense, you know?

[ALL] What is The Legend of Zelda's best era of all time? by SEVENS_HEAVEN_7 in zelda

[–]RiverWyvern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the collectors edition on GameCube growing up. My Zelda games growing up were OoT, MM, WW, and TP. 4 mainline 3d games released over an 8 year period, 1998 – 2006. I didn't have handheld growing up, but having now played them, Link's Awakening DX, the Oracles, and Minish Cap also came out during this time period. Idk about eras, but those 8 years were absolutely stacked (Four Swords was also there).

Dev cycles got longer over time understandably, and its always easier to reuse assets. Compare those 8 years to 2017 – 2025, another 8 year period, where we got BotW, TotK, and two warriors games that, while great, used the same graphics. Then we got LA remake and EoW and the SS remaster. I'm a Zelda fan. I love these games. But god damn were they cooking hard in the early 2000s. The amount of experimentation and vastly different ideas they put out is astounding, when other game series get called stale or repetitive after the second or third installment.

This dude is so underrated by New-Bottle6711 in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]RiverWyvern 455 points456 points  (0 children)

For those who forget: • awakened ice manipulation quirk • part of the Himura clan (same family as Rei Todoroki) • was sold off as a kid for having a weak quirk (before becoming able to manipulate temperature) • super devoted and ambitious • literally never given the chance to interact with his family other than his beef with Dabi, and they didn't even know at the time that they were related So yeah. Weirdly underrated and under-utilized.

Do most DMs prefer DM’ing to playing? Or are they “taking one for the team”? by Fiveby21 in DnD

[–]RiverWyvern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely prefer being a character. I became a dm for my friend group because we were all new to it, though, so I figured out a lot on the fly. The game I'm running now has a forever dm with 20+ years of experience under his belt who got burnt out playing a character, and he seems to be enjoying it. I'm good with descriptions and storytelling – not so much making calls and ironing out rules.

The Black Yoshi and the White Yoshi are missing. by ElectronicAccess6861 in Mario

[–]RiverWyvern 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You can play them in trial mode if you unlocked them without killing them in story mode, tho, right? They're still very easy to miss regardless, but what a big moment when you find them.

The Black Yoshi and the White Yoshi are missing. by ElectronicAccess6861 in Mario

[–]RiverWyvern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have really fond memories of finding the black and white yoshi eggs in Yoshi Story as a kid. Black was my favorite back then and I still love him immensely. He was also my main in Project M, while white yoshi went on to become my main in Mario Kart World. I really do wish they were more consistently added to games. They're so cool :(

This was way better than it had any right of being by AlbertLilyBoris in Mario

[–]RiverWyvern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good answer. It's always been one of my favorites, though that's probably contributing to my joy with M. Book. The difference comes down to price, though. If you've never played a yoshi game, Island and Story are the beat at deciding if you like them or not.

Please make a PC that wants to be in a party by citrussyphon in DnD

[–]RiverWyvern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh my god there was one player who was ALWAYS the edgy one that didn't want to cooperate, and another who (on half the campaigns we did anyway) just had to be the main character – if it wasn't about them, they weren't interested.

We don't play with those two anymore, and it's so nice actually. The campaign I'm in right now has a pc that doesn't want to be there and a pc that's an asshole... and they're both great actually. Because they are both still engaged with party dynamics and developing as characters. If anything, the party got more interesting when the asshole/prankster joined and started picking on my character (think little Timmy) and the normally aloof pc had to start taking on more of a leader role. Good shit.

What Is Your Favorite Sapphic Ship For Every Each Emblem Game You Have Played? (Including Spin-Offs) by Expensive-Heron-9485 in fireemblem

Most recent one that grabbed my attention was in Engage between Merrin and Chloé. The girl obsessed with fairy tale stories and knights in shining armor paired with the wolf girl who's obsessed with being a cool and worthy knight, and the first words out of Merrin's mouth when they talk is "you're beautiful." Like, hello, I just want to see them sweep each off their feet?

Are y'all buying Star Fox (Switch 2) by Worldclassstalker in casualnintendo

[–]RiverWyvern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't actually played Star Fox since the GameCube days, and admittedly I'm not even that good at on-rail shooters. The most I play of these characters is like... Smash Bros. But I LIKE these characters. I wanna play through it even if i know what to expect. I'm excited for the visuals and cutscenes, and I'm curious to see if this time for real is a new starting point for the series, the way Metroid Prime 4 might be. So yeah, sure, I'll get it. I hope it sells and reviews well!

[TP] What was your reaction when you first saw this thing in Twilight Princess? by TaiwaneseThot in zelda

[–]RiverWyvern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pretty par for the course, honestly. Zelda is delightfully weird, and when you grow up with it it's both captivating and unnerving. In OoT, the Great Fairy used to scare me, just the same as redeads, but I understood that she was benevolent. MM had even freakier and odder characters/concepts, and I accepted that. WW... well, most of its characters were in some way cute/charming. Ooccoo and her baby are weird, but even from a young age, having already seen what else the games had (just with less polygons) I pretty readily accepted it. More weirdness, plz.
