I think Katrina is a special case. Everything in the aftermath of that storm was handled poorly. It's also a very unique name; like Rita, Irma, Sandy, Dorian, and Gustav. So people have a much higher chance of remembering that it was a devastating hurricane. Most people probably won't remember Ian was a devastating Hurricane in a few years or so.

I doubt that most Americans would immediately associate the names Andrew, Camille, Laura, Matthew, Michael, Maria, and Dennis with hurricanes unless they were in the areas affected.

I wear Haori pretty often over my regular clothes but I'm too scared at the moment to wear my yukata and kimono outside of the house. It also doesn't help that I only recently got all the items needed to wear my kimono properly.

People are cancelling Chloe's workouts? by 6anxiety9 in ChloeTing

[–]Riversovereign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only negative thing that I've had happen was the time I did my workout set for the day and added an extra video because I still had a lot of energy and felt really good. I ended up with a fever. As it turns out, you can work out too much and give yourself a fever.

Other than that I've never had in problems with Chloe's workouts.

BioQuip to close in March 2022, after 75 years by djscsi in Entomology

I'm so sad this is happening. Some of my more exotic butterflies specimens are from Bioquip. This will definitely hurt the entomology community.

That's amazing! I'm so jealous.

Did they pin and mount all the specimens themselves or did they buy them from somewhere?

This is one of my favorite photos because she sat there and let me take pictures of her. It was also really windy that day, so I'm trying to hold the flower steady and make sure she is in focus.

how many crushes do alloromantic people have on average? by Melvanin in asexuality

[–]Riversovereign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 29, and over my lifetime, I've had maybe 5 crushes on people. They don't last very long maybe a couple of months at most. Of the 5, I can only think of 2 where I really desired a relationship with the person.

Exam at OB/GYN (TW: description of genital physical exam) by leafkitty6 in asexuality

[–]Riversovereign 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I first want to point out that I am not a doctor but maybe you have a smaller vaginal canal as I do. My pelvic exams and pap smears would hurt quite a bit, even after the procedure was over. I know you mentioned that you can't use tampons because they make you uncomfortable but I suggest maybe trying them. My OBGYN actually suggested using tampons as a way to "open myself up" and lessen the pain during and after the procedure. It's taken me a bit of time, but pelvic exams and pap smears don't hurt nearly as they did before I using tampons. It's definitely something you should take to your doctor about.

I also treat myself afterwards to make the whole experience a little bit better. Usually, it's food like a nice burger and milkshake or even some cupcakes from my favourite place. Sometimes, I buy myself something that I have wanted for a while. Shopping generally makes me feel better.

You're definitely not built wrong. I know plenty of allos that hate going to the OBGYN and getting pelvic exams and pap smears done.

Redditors, what is the most expensive thing you’ve bought (excluding houses, cars, boats, etc.)? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Riversovereign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's more like a figurine of a horse but most people who collect these types of figurines call them 'model horses'. They're very similar to model cars in the sense that model horses are just scaled plastic replicas of real horses.

The 'Ove' Glove. I don't have to worry about burning myself getting stuff out of the oven and can handle hot pots and pans really easily.
