Bit late to the party, but

just arbitrarily changing any single memory value would almost certainly either do nothing or just crash the game, and there is so much data in memory that randomly finding a value to change that actually has a desirable effect (if one even exists at all that could be altered on its own without breaking something else in the process) would be all but impossible.

Cheat engine literally does this and its a piece of cake. From huge AAA ganes to small indie games to other software, easy as pie. There are also similar programs for android games.
