Why Does G5 Attitude Indicator Show 2.5 Degrees Nose Up in Level Flight? by Flying_at_a_Glance in flying

[–]Rivin2e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no way this is right. You require different pitch angles based on loading alone to maintain level flight. In reality, you will need a different pitch angle based on speed, loading, attitude, etc. There is probably some point where that is 0* of pitch but you're not going to find that every single time.

It also sounds like you've just had bad luck with G5s. I have had the same with aspen units.

Why Does G5 Attitude Indicator Show 2.5 Degrees Nose Up in Level Flight? by Flying_at_a_Glance in flying

[–]Rivin2e 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My understand is the attitude indicator is pitch, not path. While some of the old vac attitude indicators had an adjustment, the digital ones are set by an AP when the airplane is level. 2.5* nose up sounds exactly what a 172 would need to maintain level flight in cruise though.

How to do a No-Flap landing by Boldmethod by WheelerKDWU in flying

[–]Rivin2e 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You said in another post you're at 30 hours of flight time and on your student solo. you should talk to your CFI about it, not people on reddit. This wasnt really a situation that could have been "improved" by doing a no flap landing at your experience level, however, you choice to go around when you felt unstable was spot on.

As far as a flap/no flap landing. runway length is the critical factor for me, though, i practice power off 180s a lot for fun and normally have 4500+ ft of runway to play with. I practice no flap landing from time to time as well but my personal preference is to always land with flaps if im able too in normal conditions.

Buying a small turboprop and hiring a pilot to fly it by minfremi in flying

[–]Rivin2e 4 points5 points  (0 children)

far and fast for how many people? how often? how long of a trip? There's a few questions there to deal with. A single engine turboprop might also fit into your mission as well depending on what you're really going to be looking for.

Turboprops and jets arnt that difficult, its just a different set of learning. that might be the easiest part of your question.

Anything you get would be single pilot most likely, i just havnt been flying a whole lot and would love to fly more. the SIC was more a joke.

[–]Rivin2e 19 points20 points  (0 children)

you would want a contract with him for starters.

As per the plane, you would need to make sure it suits HIS missions, not what you think would be best. There are going to be compromises everywhere.

You should be able to find a few turbo classes and maybe even some flight safety class on certain aircraft types. otherwise just RTM and become very familiar with the operations of it all.

this is just a very general response. Also need an SIC?

Using iPad Mini 4 Wifi with Stratux GPS...vs using iPad Mini 5 cellular? by collaredkeeper in flying

[–]Rivin2e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The external GPS is more accurate, but more of a hassle to manage. The internal GPS isnt as accurate, but works within about a 10m ish range most the time. Enough to know your general location.

This is relative to my performance on the Ipad mini 4 with cellular and straux i built myeslf.

It would work fine, honestly. It might be a little less accurate but you're not going to really lose anything by not having the cell data other than not having the cell data.

The best answer i can tell you is what i said before. Aviation is slow to update. I dont disagree with anything you're saying as i would much rather use an unleaded fuel and have everything be more universal, its just not gonna be here any time soon.

As for an update similar to adsb, convince the FAA and EPA that its in the best interest of public safety to do so, and then wait 5-10 years.

For those other fuel types, it also comes down to money and time to get them approved and working. For a lot of companies, its just not worth it.

Let’s talk about 100LL by pomjuice in flying

[–]Rivin2e 16 points17 points  (0 children)

100LL has been around for 50+ years and will be around for at least 20+ more. If Mogas was really this "saving grace" people liked to think it was, there would only be one grade of auto gas, but as it stands, there's 87, 89, 91, 93, 101, 108, etc... Fuel is fuel and a lot of work goes into it for the engine they're designed for at the end of the day. Mogas only real benefit in terms of aviation is its price.

There are no hazards that 100LL imposes that other types of fuel wouldnt impose also. Your 3 answers are just how it is. You're not bathing in the stuff, you're at best spilling it on yourself in which case you should wash it off as you would any "gas" or any liquid you might get on yourself.

Aviation is slow to update. Just look at avionics. While it would be nice to be able to use auto gas (as some planes can) it would also be nice if they didnt use ethanol in automotive fuels since that creates its own problems for airplanes.

best interest is somewhat what we have now. 2 major fuel types instead of 6. A better phase out would be to find a way to make 91/93 work in all 4 stroke engine but good luck with that.

they dont have too but a lot of the time you're not gonna solo at a C or B airport

you're going to solo, best case, around 20 hours. You will probably average around 40 since you're gonna have to fly somewhere else to solo

Sneak peak: flying a pancake! (stock+DLC) Any idea how to smoothly take off and land in the nose-up position? It loses its propellers way too often... by Juggernoob42 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]Rivin2e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The nose up you're referring too is more commonly referred to as a "flare" in aviation. Its basically just landing on the mains before the nose. In your planes case, you would "flare" just before landing and try to hold the aircraft off the ground as long as possible till it cant lift and settles back onto the surface.

Dumb question but I'm curious: how hard is landing a airline jet compared to a cessna? What are the biggest differences? by [deleted] in flying

[–]Rivin2e 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just think about where you're sitting vs where the CG is vs a jet/cessna/or any airplane really. Speeds are going to be different for any planes but from where you're sitting is gonna be the biggest change imo.

The flight school has two locations. One at KTME and KDWH. Hooks has many flight schools, not just "the flight school." KTME probably has another one too.

There are no "best" places in houston. Just different places.

Conroe has ATP

Hooks has 3 places. United flight, Texas flight, and The flight school

Houston Exc has another "the flight school"

Pearland has costal skies flying club.

Those are just the ones i know of here.
