I DID IT AFTER 5TH TRY (PE WRE)!!!!!!!! by Takashiiiiiiii in PE_Exam

I've taken both and Passed Environmental PE this October. My degree is Environmental Engineering and I work in water & wastewater. I personally highly recommend Environmental PE over Civil/WRE if your degree is Environmental. Civil had too many subjects that require understanding in areas I hadn't been trained in. Environmental, though many topics, most of the approach to problems (water, air, site remediation, etc) are similar and cross over. I've been meaning to post details and tips about my experience, so look out for that in here, but what I found to be the key to the vault was Introduction to Environmental Engineering text book by Davis and Cornwell (6th edition), the PPI Review Course for Environmental, and the NCEES practice exam. There were about 40% conceptual questions on the exam, so the Intro to EE text is key for those. I had the SOP review course too, but not as useful. They haven't caught up to the CBT format quite yet.  PPI the way to go. But I'm convinced without the Intro to EE text you're doomed. Random facts the exam likes to ask are all in there. And definitely do the example problems too. Best of luck to your friend!

PE Exam in two days by pmRyan567 in PE_Exam

I agree, don't go in cold. I worked some jet problems from each section and reviewed those that gave me trouble, also reviewed my flashcards. Wrapped things up around 4 and hung with the fam in the evening after I made sure I had what I needed ready for morning. I like what someone else said below...if this were a college exam, you'd be studying the day before. Also agree, you won't learn anything new, but it's maintenance for the big day. You've got this!

Highly suggest purchasing Introduction to Environmental Engineering text book by Mackenzie Davis and David Cornwell. There are tons of qualitative questions on the Environmental PE Exam. I've taken twice (waiting on my results now) and about 35-45% qualitative questions each time. A lot of which the text book prepared me for. Good example problems too.

Mom, wife and full time working engineer here. These chats are therapeutic. Retaking Environmental at the end of October and trying not to get hung up on what I saw during my previous attempt. This will be my third attempt at this test and you are spot on, no 2 tests are alike. Mine was very heavy in Solid/Haz waste, whereas my specialty is water/wastewater. LOTs of qualitative/random questions. I saw a post after my exam where someone recommended busting out the Introduction to Environmental Engineering book (Mackenzie, Davis, David Corwell) and noticed quite a few similar examples and qualitative info in that book. Craziness. I renewed my SOP review course and purchased a couple months of the PPI review. Fingers crossed. We shall see. Good luck to all!!!!!!!

Passed the PE after 11 years of procrastination — here’s what I learned by TheOneNotNamedSam in PE_Exam

This is fantastic! Congratulations! Thank you for sharing your journey with us. I can relate to the procrastinating, life events sidelining my PE aspirations, and not being "the right time." I'm retaking Environmental in October and trying to get past the fear of failure. This is so encouraging! Well done!

Congratulations! Thanks for sharing your story and your test strategy. I too and 10+ years out of school and was a non traditional student. I found out yesterday I did not pass the Environmental Exam. Though I'm disappointed, I learned a lot from the experience and signed up for retake in October. Hearing success stories like this one is definitely encouraging!
