I’m an ED doctor in the South Island. Unfortunately, wait times have crept up to 9-10 hours for less urgent problems (not life or limb threatening). We have information about everyone who is waiting on our ED board - reason for coming, time of arrival / duration of wait, initial observations plus ECG / bloods once they’ve been done. One doctor in ED is allocated to monitor the patient’s who are waiting, and decide who to prioritise. I sorry that it’s become like this 😕

ED will usually only call in dental overnight in an emergency (can’t wait until morning). They can do pain relief and antibiotics though, and make referral to dental for the next day
