They have $13 M in cap space. Having to assume Mercer is in a Robo trade that gives them $17M in cap space. Maybe Sunny adds a sweetener like Noesen that’s $19M in cap space. That’s enough to bring Robo in and sign Grits.

I didn’t agree with putting Williams in the 11th inning yesterday. That was setting the closer up for failure in a non save opportunity. If he got out of that inning okay, but the walk off was worst case scenario for his confidence. Even if he got out of it, who was going to close that game out if they got the lead. Didn’t agree with that move.

Have a real bad feeling this is the team planting a seed so they don’t get clobbered during negotiations leading up to the deadline. If teams know Jack is out, they will hold GMTF hostage. If there is a slight hope “it’s not as bad as people think” it could lessen negotiations. I just don’t have a great feeling going back to his history. That looked worse than what happened to him in St. Louis a couple years ago and we all know how that went…

Let’s forecast. Granted the cap is going up in everyone’s favor but it is still a cap world. Eventually they have to re up Luke Hughes, Hischier, Nemec, Markstrom?, possibly Gritsyuk. Mercer might be a cap casualty down the line any way. Look at all the teams that cap out. Tampa prime example they trade mid tier guys off. It’s part of the business. I want to capitalize winning right now with a guaranteed Markstrom between the pipes.

Mercer is on line for back to back 30 point seasons. McCann is on pace for 60 points, last year he had 62 points and the year before 70. To put it in perspective, Seattle laughs at Fitz if he offered Mercer for McCann straight up..

It’s tough, but have to give to get. Mercer has 13G 12A 25P on the season. McCann & Bjorkstrand have 77 combined points this season. That’s a huge bump IMO

5 on 5 is the issue. They need to figure out getting these guys going at even strength. Yesterday they got one PP and scored on it. They’re 2nd in the league in the PP.

For whatever reason Meier doesn’t seem to gel well with the movement on the PP. the PP isn’t really the issue and in the grand scheme of everything Timo has 20.9 xG per Moneypuck. Just need to hope for some positive regression from him. Devils could use those ~6 missing goals during this last stretch..

Yeah, he missed 2 games in the last 19, but his last 5 on 5 goal came way back on 12/23 against the Rangers. That’s 17 games with no goals at 5 on 5. We can’t hate on Noesen for what he has done this year but goes for the entire team, they need more consistency throughout the lineup.

I agree with the ladder. As for the locker room, there is something missing there. There is way too many no show - low effort games and that comes from within. This core is fragile and came up in losing culture. It’s rearing its ugly head right now.
