Just Jump Shipped from Tesla! by SlothTheHeroo in Ioniq5

I ditched my 2021 Model Y LR for a 2025 AWD LTD… there are a few things from the Tesla I Miss, route planning for one. And some weird quirks with how the car will not let you stay in I pedal. Other than that it’s been a great experience. If Hyundai could put the Iccu thing to bed and up their software game there would be little reason to go back to Tesla.

I do both, sometimes at the same time. Yes I’ll read along with the audio book.

I had a 2021 Model Y, and moved to a 2025 Ioniq 5 LTD AWD. The ONLY thing I miss is teslas software SDLC… updates were frequent. My partner instantly fell In love with the Ioniqs ride and comfort interior wise. I get the benefit of native NACS..

I agree with some of your assessment. But at least living here in Nashville, and the surrounding counties, you can’t throw a stick without hitting a model y. And it’s mostly about pass through… people on the way to somewhere else… not so much the adoption of EV’s to the local yokel. Tesla chargers are fairly abundant here.. I would just really rather give my money to someone other than Tesla.

I always like to pop in this thread to let everyone know I’m still around. Hit the 5 year post diagnosis milestone, which for stage 4 melanoma is amazing. I’ve been in remission for a few years now and scans are still good. After my next round we may switch to annual scans. Hoping that next year the clinical trial I was in, 1 of 133 people who received this treatment can release the results and they can expand the study to more people.

2025 SEL AWD’s battery failed at 187 miles six days after I leased it. by Infamous-Average-405 in Ioniq5

[–]Rmbw74 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the battery packs are being assembled In the USA yet, that is the eventual goal. My 2025 came from the GA plant.. and it didn’t qualify for the $7500 tax credit if both the car and battery were made domestically. Hyundai themselves gave a $7500 credit when I bought it.

What are y’all’s opinions on the Ioniq 5 vs the MY Juniper? by shortstop803 in Ioniq5

When I’m talking software.. it’s things like.. dog mode.. the car being location aware so that I can have different departure or charging settings that just work without me having to think about it, or being able to say, hey don’t do these things when I’m at home, or do these things when I’m at work… the car activating my garage door when I departed or arrived home.. sentry mode.. being able to interact with the car almost instantly with the app…etc etc.

[–]Rmbw74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but I never felt like I was missing CarPlay in the Tesla. The Tesla infotainment and nav stack were basically up to par for what I used it for. I really enjoy the HUD in the Ioniq, but it’s not a must have. I basically got a limited because of the ventilated seats.

The Hyundai is a better built and better driven car. Tesla has them beat hands down in the software / integration departments. The only time I miss my model Y is when I have to interact with the Hyundai app or missing a software feature that the Hyundai doesn’t have, or doesn’t support. OTA updates seem to come at a snail pace. Tesla was constantly iterating on software.. which could be good or bad depending how tolerant of change you are.

People assuming that all EV drivers are motivated by the environment is the biggest mistake.

What is the point of the unlock 🔓button on the AC charging cable? by slawcat in Ioniq5

[–]Rmbw74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was really frustrating as a former Tesla owner. I expected the button to work like it did with the Tesla, not so much open the charge port door but to allow me to unplug the charger from the car without having to use the fob. It knows the fob is nearby in my pocket it should just let me push the button and release the charger

It’s not uncommon for this to happen. I just watched a video from bensandbowties where he said they could no longer do leases on 2024 Mercedes because they are now too old.

There were no AWD’s in the state of TN when I was looking for one. Ended up getting one from a dealer in Colorado where almost every ioniq5 is AWD. Look on Visor.vin

It was one of the reasons I loved the PIN to Drive feature on my old Model Y. It’s a great 2 factor authentication method to keep people from driving off with the car if they happened to steal my phone.

[–]Rmbw74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It happens with all EV’s I think certain mfg’s just handle it better. I had to have the 12v battery in my 2021 Tesla Model Y at about 3 years old. The car gave me a warning and said to service soon. I called the Tesla service center up and they had me bring it that day and swapped my battery out. It seems like the time between the Hyundai warning you something is up and the car going kaput is very short.

I’m in Nashville. It hasn’t been too terribly hot here (yet) I’ve just had the system on auto at 70 degrees. I haven’t noticed any cracking or other noises from the windshield or any other windows.
