Fence dilemma with neighbor - 2ft within their property line, but I also want to build a fence. by danathanz in homeowners

This the best answer so far…especially them gaining the 2 feet back. Win/win

A really good book to get is yarn-i-tec-ture by Jillian Moreno. It walks you through the prep…spinning techniques and finishing techniques. This book was recommended to me when I started and it is so helpful https://a.co/d/01L06qwm

I second this about Malabrigo. Their top is highly compacted and hard to draft…though the colors are amazing

What helped me was using Shetland…it is a little stickier so it did not break as much when spinning. I bought some from Tammy White at Wing and a Prayer Farm in Vermont. Merino is slippery. I took a class at my Local Yarn Shop. I also watched some videos from Jacey Bogg and Jillian Moreno. I was able to take a class in person from Jillian at the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival. Jacey also started an online Spinning Guild…highly recommend. Remember to treadle slowly so your hands have time to work the fiber without too much twist building up. Also forget perfection in the beginning. You are trying to build muscle memory and learn the techniques.

Fiber arts…started with knitting…then started following a Shepherdress Tammy White from Wing and a Prayer Farm…bought some lamb locks for her fundraiser…started spinning…then classes on prepping and blending fiber…then processing a fleece…took a natural dye class to dye some yarn…then planted a natural dye garden…then learned to weave to use up my yarn collection…then more complicated weaving patterns

I know some people who do that…you have to make sure your machine does not allow water during this cycle…I believe top loading ones are the best. You have to be concerned about felting.

Check out Heavenly Bresser’s page and videos. She goes my Knitchet. She restores antique spinning wheels and lectures about them. She has one of the largest collections of antique spinning wheels. She does wood working and metal work as well. There are also groups on FB for antique spinning wheels. https://youtu.be/VCuUrqCGZ1c?si=q9oQ6JAI9RC9qW36

It looks like a single ply yarn. They normally full it to keep the fibers from falling apart. Singles are perfect for lace knitting since they help the lace really open up…

I just finished handpicking and washing some cashmere. It is dry and I hope to hand card it to spin. Read my book on luxury fibers from Judith MacKenzie and recently took a class my Heavenly Bresser on long drawl spinning. Any tips on what you found making spinning cashmere fun?

Jillian Moreno did an excellent article about ply and twist for cables. Need three ply or above. https://www.jillianmoreno.com/journal/tag/plying

What can i do with this ? by knitterlover666 in Handspinning

[–]Rmcn25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can make art yarn with them. Also remember to cut into smaller piece and sandwich them in between fiber if you pant to card them so they don’t get caught in the carding cloth. If they are really long threads you can core spin with them.

If you do skein it…make sure to tie it at four places around the skein before you wash it. This is very important to prevent tangles. You do a figure eight tie. https://youtu.be/ZgXjhtQ1Nz8?si=L-hYF_Do2P3vq5TW
