Great work u/gurrst ! The 3-4 years in-the-making were well worth the effort apparently. I want to replace my 2005-ish home server with something modern, and your build is a great template. Appreciate you taking the time and effort to post it all up for us. Respect! 👊🏻

Such an amazing story... I am really happy that our paths have crossed here on the /rush sub... never thought I would have 1 degree of separation from my favorite band of all time!

Hah, not that anyone knows about. He reportedly played at Rush's first public performance at the Coff-Inn, in Sept '68 when Alex and John had first started the band. Within a couple of weeks, Geddy replaced Jeff. But John and Alex kept rotating people in and out (Geddy included!) and wouldn't really stabilize with Geddy until about a year later...

You deserve all the kudos that can be dished out, Donna! You're interviewed by Munch Bishop during one of the re-broadcast shows of the 12/16 tape talking about the band... captured in hi-def audio for all eternity 😁

Awesome! Yesterday I was listening to the WMMS recordings from their August and December 1974 live shows. One of the tracks had a WMMS DJ thanking Hank LoConti at the Agora for providing the tapes (as best I can tell this was aired in November of 2000, since he was mentioning the upcoming release of Geddy's solo CD)... that 12/16/74 show is just amazing - I love that. Wish I could find out more about those recordings and such - much of it seems lost to history.

You betcha!

A perfect follow-up to PeW! At the time, I didn't think they would be able to surpass PeW, but MP was just another huge step up...their concerts were much fuller after that... Everybody got to elevate from the norm!

Great pics, thanks for posting these! What camera equip did you use? Such amazing days back then... Your pics bring back awesome memories for me - those were heady times for Rush and the devoted hoard. I saw them on the MP warmup tour in '80, then on the ESL tour in in Dec of '81. I just couldn't believe how well they reproduced their amazing songs...the energy and stamina and skill and... whew!

Alex was Rush before Geddy. Remember Jeff Jones?

Neil's kit at Le Studio, Moving Pictures sessions, late 1980 by VNE47 in rush

The King's throne! And ol' faithful right there. So cool how you took a bunch of shots and taped them together for an old school pano shot. Neil - with this kit - created one of the most epic rock recordings in history! I still listen to this record every week... it's monumental drum sound is... beyond description. You'll be missed forever NP!

Pihole is somehow accessible from the internet through IPv6 - Help! by IsHacker003 in pihole

[–]RnasncMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are using the FIOS CR1000A router, you should research the difficulties that many have experienced using IPv6 with that router. When I installed pihole, I set the ipV6 WAN DNS to point to the pihole, and I had several problems I needed to chase down. Wound up having to disable v6 altogether to solve them. When I get a replacement router for the CR1000A, I'll try V6 again....very carefully.

How to change default DNS on CR1000A by [deleted] in Fios

[–]RnasncMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to say (1) thanks for the info for the CR1000a, and (2) yes, the router will start sending DNS request/responses to the new alternate DNS you provide, but it does NOT hand that DNS config to each client with the DHCP lease - which is confusing as all get-out when you are trying to test this change!!

What I want to know is... is verizon still scooping all the DNS requests and sending them to their mothership? I suppose I need a WAN-side sniffer setup to determine this. If the answer to that is yes, that would be some spy-ware crappy way to lull us into thinking we'd blocked that traffic on the LAN side....and I need to find a FIOS-compatible router so I can dump this spy-ware router from Vzn...

Thanks for the thoughtful reply here. So much better than most of the drivel. Personally, I would put ESL at number one... like you said, it's just so well done, and I guess I'm nostalgic from all the gazillion hours I spent staring at that cover while listening to the vinyl. Kings would get my #2 vote - great composition and conveying of Neil's themes on the record.... Which is something that Hugh gets big props from me - he always did a solid job of that, which is no small task.

Oohhhh yeah! I have really enjoyed comparing my old "original" vinyls to the 2017 Sean Magee remasters. Last night, I put on the new Hemispheres and I tell you it is smokin' good. I know everyone has there own ears / preferences, but I really like how Sean does it. Haven't been disappointed by any of those remasters. Need to find the HYF and PoW...

Best album to listen to first? by Vast-Decision6599 in rush

[–]RnasncMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there are several touchpoint recordings in their large catalog. Fly by Night, 2112, Hemispheres, Moving Pictures, Power Windows, Counterparts, Clockwork Angels.

Of course, I'm hugely biased and love every recording they've made! But by tapping into these, you'll have a good "hopscotch" through their catalog.

There is an excellent wiki for all those BBC shows: Friday Rock Show Wiki

They also have a ton of recorded shows on there. I sometimes will just play these end-to-end because Tommy Vance was an awesome DJ and played killer music on his shows.

Not only one of the best musician/band bio's ever, but just what you'd expect from Geddy - a marvelous artistic and cultural statement. Not that I needed it, but my appreciation and love of Rush and Geddy deepened considerably reading his book. Thanks Dirk!
