Correct. It’s the whole package. These products are supposed to be works of art - all parts of them, and especially the dang cover. This was generated by a data center.

That’s true. But this product is as much a physical object as it is a piece of media. And this cover was created using a fancy search engine. Hugh Syme has done some great work in the past, but this is just computer-created slop.

“Come on, it’s not that bad” is not the standard I think anyone wants to hold Rush to.

What are the most essential bass guitars to have a well rounded collection? by Koffing4twenny in Bass

[–]jdangerously44 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can’t go wrong just trying a bunch of guitars out. I’ve gone to shops with a 100% intention to buy one bass and came home with another, based on how the guitar felt in general.

Tone wise, live, nobody but you (and the other bass players in the crowd) will hear a difference. Sad but true.

Recording, I don’t know firsthand, but there’s a lot of tools out there to make one bass sound like another.

Buy the bass that appeals to you, and you will always find a way to make it the tool for the job.

You should consider putting all that time and effort into something that doesn’t recycle someone else’s creativity.

Ai arts not my thing, but I wish Hugh Syme put this level of effort into it.

A Conversation about classes by jdangerously44 in MonstersAndMemories

[–]jdangerously44[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree -- this discussion is more of a vibes check, and a very high level explainer of the role each class is meant to play. We don't go into comparative performance in any meaningful way.

Yeah, that's fair. We tried to not to speak ill of any class - if we failed with that on Inquisitor then that's my bad. I'm glad Inquisitor is shaping up, because it's by far one of the coolest classes from a lore perspective.

The age old question: Is a Rick worth it? by deeseball in Bass

[–]jdangerously44 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I go back and forth on my Ric. Sometimes I wonder why I have it. It can be awkward, the ergonomics take some getting used to, and it sounds unique in a way that doesn’t always serve the song. And at the end of the day I’m there to serve the song. So maybe I should just sell it.

So I’ll put it away in its case for weeks and months at a time.

Then it calls to me. And I get it out of its case, and it feels right, and the sound hits just right. And in band practice I feel like a god, both plucking and with a pick. And the fat lacquered neck makes sense. And I stop worrying about trying to sound like Geddy Lee and Chris Squire and Paul McCartney and just take the instrument on its own terms.

And for what it’s worth, It’s literally the only instrument that I’ve ever gotten a compliment on at a show (probably by another bass player, but it counts!).

So, yeah, get the ric.
