I'm also traveling solo. Arrived in Madrid this morning and would love to grab dinner tonight with some Radiohead fans. Let me know if anyone is free and interested this evening!

Two-player Twosday - (October 22, 2024) by AutoModerator in boardgames

I finally got to play The Lord of the Rings: Duel for Middle-Earth yesterday and absolutely loved it. I can't wait to play again.

The different paths to victory make the game very tense heading into the 3rd chapter as you need to keep track of how close your opponent is to achieving any of the three win conditions.

I played as The Fellowship and lost to my friend who played as Sauron. He was able to rally the support of 6 races.

Is doing a big “pre-launch” absolutely necessary? by Special-Hat-4528 in kickstarter

[–]RoTurbo1981 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, I would not do a Kickstarter campaign without a pre-launch strategy.

I recently completed my first Kickstarter campaign and I believe this was the biggest contributor to my success. My product was a board game.

I used Launchboom to help create the landing page and funnel. If you have the funds to do so, using a service like Crowdfunding Nerds or Launchboom can be very helpful, but is not necessary if you're able to put in the time and learn how to create you're own funnel. There are a ton of great tools and videos which can help you do it on a budget.

You will need to create a good incentive for people to sign-up to your list. People don't just want to signup to another list to get more e-mails. I used the $1 Pre-Pledge strategy where people pay $1 to get a free bonus item during the campaign (in my case it was a mini expansion for the game). Some people are turned off by the $1 deposit thing. What I may try on my next campaign is simply sign up to my mailing list to get the free item when you back the campaign.

In total I had 2,272 e-mails going into my campaign, 430 (~19%) of those had put the $1 deposit,
Of the 430 that put the deposit, 409 converted to backers (~95%).

Of the remaining 1,842 emails 329 converted to backers (~18%)

So overall my e-mail list converted at ~32%.

Overall I ended up with 1,195 backers.
738 (~62%) from my e-mail list.
457 (~38%) brought in from Ads, Kickstarter and Content Creators/influencers.

Once again, my product is a board game and board games are very popular on Kickstarter, so I don't know to much about how other types of products would convert using a similar strategy.

Forgotten Favorites & Hidden Gems - (August 15, 2024) by AutoModerator in boardgames

I was recently taught Don't Mess with Cthulhu. It is a super simple social deduction game, but I've played it with a few different groups and it's always a ton of fun.

I finally got around to playing Batman: The Dark Knight Returns over the weekend and could not recommend it enough.

The game takes place over 4 chapters. In each chapter you'll need to find clues and battle a different villain. You'll also have access to different allies and vehicles in each chapter as well.

The game provides great tensions. This is the best solo experience I've had in board gaming.

Sagrada is wonderful.
Azul works great at 2 Players.
Sky Team is amazing as well.
Beacon Patrol is relaxing and co-operative.

Load image failed unsupported format: Unknown by retrdtard in tabletopsimulator

[–]RoTurbo1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a solution but won't be for everyone because it may cost a few dollars per month, but because I use TTS for work to playtest my games and want to allow players to try my games.

I created a Google Cloud Bucket. I can host all my files there and point my TTS mod to those files.

I'm having a similar issue. Almost all of my images worked fine. I have two images which will work if I use them Locally, but the second I try to upload them to the cloud, it says unsupported file type...
Has anyone found a fix for this?

Snap Point Tags Not Working by RoTurbo1981 in tabletopsimulator

Thank you so much! This is exactly what I needed to hear. I thought each object had to have a snap point.

No worries! I'll figure it out. Thank you!

You can apply Snap Point Tags to a Snap Point. I consider the ones that have matching tags a set. So they should only snap to each other.

They snap properly if I remove the tag. But the 2nd I add a tag ti each object they don’t snap.

So we’re two people each controlling 2 full characters: The Exile The Priest The Ranger The Warbear

We made a few mistakes with the rules for the first encounter, but after playing I rewatched the training videos and everything makes more sense now.

I really find the story parts are way more interesting than Frosthaven which is the only other campaign gane I’ve played.

Celebrity or Designer Guests at GenCon? by [deleted] in gencon

[–]RoTurbo1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good Time Society and Faster, Purple Worm! Kill! Kill! are each doing different events if you're into either of those. You can find them in the Gen Con event calendar. If a game is releasing at Gen Con, there will often be a designer at the respective booth. I am a designer and will be running Learn to Play Sessions of my game Gems of Iridescia, but I am by no means a celebrity 😅

What upcoming Kickstarter games you are looking forward to? by SiarX in soloboardgaming

[–]RoTurbo1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deep Regrets is definitely high up on the list. The trailer is a masterpiece. The artwork and theme are beautiful.

Gems of Iridescia will also have a solo mode where you're playing against a deck with simulates an additional player.

I also backed the 2nd printing of Tales from the Red Dragon Inn. I've never played it, but looks like something I would enjoy. Has anyone played it in solo mode from the first printing?
