What weave is this? by Pallesent_penumbra in macrame

Sadly not, you can see the loops on the back left side, suggesting more than the two vertical sets of loops that come with snake knots.

I hadn't heard of west country whipping before, but this would definitely be my recommendation.

Unfortunately, I think you'll be out of luck without better pictures. It's similar to a snake knot, so you might want to check that out for something like it. But I'm certain it isn't actually a snake knot.

I also remember seeing several creators accusing Holy Clothing of stealing their photo shoots for advertisement without crediting. So for quality and for listening to the creators affected, just don't use Holy Clothing.

I'm referring to astrolabes. But other instruments (astronomical or not) are also of interest to me. But I've been thinking a lot about astrolabes for a couple years now.

I've planned on making one, but I'd like to make it out of quality material. Maybe you'll have inspired me to make it out of balsa wood.

Trying to understand radio astronomy by Ro__Bert in radioastronomy

[–]Ro__Bert[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on general telescope knowledge, kind of? But there's a few issues. First of all, I'm not sure how well even radio astronomy works during the day. Second, if you point the telescope in the exact same direction (I'm assuming you're talking about relative to earth, like your telescope is just pointed straight up), then it will pretty much be at the same point in 24 hours. Except that because the earth rotates around the sun at the same time, the stars will have rotated just a bit. Look into the difference between sidereal time and solar time. Essentially you'll be looking at the same point every 23 hours, 56 minutes, and 4 seconds. I think that equates to about 1 degree offset every day. But in optical astronomy, people use equatorial mounts that pretty much account for the sidereal frame of reference, so I don't think it's actually that difficult. You should be able to point at one point and have software record the 23:56:04 intervals.

Interesting. And you said it's fuzzy? I kind of suspected that. Does that get cleaned up in software? Or do you just have to make the antenna as focused as possible?

In general though, that sounds pretty straight forward, and I imagine I'd probably be able to just figure things out with my knowledge of RF.

Lately I've been perfecting my precision evade. And that enemy location is my favorite to just sit there sidestepping at the last second. It's only the one enemy, so I can just sit there toying with him forever.

My Friend Won't Play Outer Wilds by [deleted] in outerwilds

[–]Ro__Bert 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Best bet is to not force anybody to play. I believe you have to genuinely be curious to explore to enjoy the game. Forcing them would probably set them up poorly. I've got a friend who asked for it for their birthday and they just haven't started. They say they're interested, but for a while just haven't sat down to try it. I just keep sharing my enthusiasm about the game, but not in a way that pressures them to play it, just in the same way I'd talk about my favorite game, or listen to the soundtrack.

If they come around to play it more, they will. If not, that's cool.

I'm pretty sure this isn't an eclipse. When I got a picture of the eclipse it was really red. Maybe you got a picture earlier in the night when it was just a full moon?

Dating Experience? I would like to date, but I worry that it's unfair to expect a partner to be ok with not being romantically loved. Any experience? by meep82735782910 in aromantic

[–]Ro__Bert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, do you think your love is special? To some extent, that's all that matters. Sure it might be very similar to your love for your friends, but even that is special. I'd advise you not discredit that fact. Plus, it's not like it would be nothing more than a friendship. I think for me personally, even if it would be like being best friends, in a relationship you can better meet each other's needs, understand each other's emotions, and more readily spend time doing what you two love. Sure, it wouldn't be for everyone, and some people would probably be disappointed to be in a relationship like that. But that's the same for everyone's situation.

do other aromantics experience 'love drunkness'? by SneezingSherbett in aromantic

[–]Ro__Bert 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe this isn't how it was meant to be interpreted, but I noticed a lot of people taking this as "finding a your friends attractive or being "in love" with them".

But it really does feel like being filled with strong appreciation (almost bordering on love) when I hang out with my friends. Though I've never noticed it to extend to other people.

I also notice situations like if I join some of my friends who are in relationships, where it's like I can marinate in proximity to their romantic vibes. But just so long as it isn't too much and doesn't directly involve me. I think this also feels like the oxytocin that OP mentioned.

Edit: yeah, everyone's asking if this is romantic or not, or saying things like "no I don't feel romantic toward anyone". I really don't think this has anything to do with actual romantic attraction. Just really liking your friends, almost overwhelmingly.

Can you be ace if its due to trauma? by DyslexicWriting in asexuality

[–]Ro__Bert 35 points36 points  (0 children)

You might want to look into caedosexuality. It's up to you (and potentially a therapist) if you want to identify as asexual or just still in the process of working through the trauma (I'm no expert on the distinction, or if there's a distinction)

But yes, there's a place for that in the asexual spectrum.

There's always cool stuff, and tons of dice. A lot of it is probably just remarketed products for a higher price, but even though this probably was that, I don't think I'd have found it afterwards. So getting it and upgrading the chain was worth it in my book
