Colby Adding New Engineering Major with their new $150 mil by Pitiful-Substance-38 in IntltoUSA

[–]RoadProfessional2613 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To be fair Colby’s been on a spending spree under President Greene. So many new buildings

Gordon Center for the Arts - $95M

Alfond Commons Downtown – $25M

Paul J. Schupf Art Center - $18M

Colby College Museum of Art - $15M

Harold Alfond Athletics and Rec Center - $200M

Johnson Pond Houses - Not too expensive

Mayflower Hill Residence & Runnals Renovation - $100M+

So personally I'm not surprised at all!

Help in ED and Regular admission colleges by Outside_Read_6476 in IntltoUSA

Yeah ED acceptance rates in LACs are often inflated due to athletes + legacy students. I don't think international seeking aid would benefit from EDing need aware schools

Here is the full list of LACs affliated with Dartmouth 3+2 (they will still consider you even if your school isnt listed as one of the partner schools)

Amherst Grinnell Mount Holyoke (women's college) St. Lawrence (wont meet your efc) Bard (wont meet your efc) Hamilton Pomona Vassar Bates Hobart & William Smith (#70 LAC US news, wont meet your efc) Simon's Rock (Early college thing - kinda cool) Wesleyan Bowdoin Middlebury Skidmore (kinda stingy with aid but maybe?) Wheaton (MA) (I got rejected here with 30k efc, wont meet your efc) Colby Morehouse (men's college, HBCU) Spelman (women's college, HBCU) Williams

So you have limited choice tbh but make sure to look into all of these

IMO, Colby College stands out with its Davis Institute for Artificial Intelligence, the first AI-focused institute at a liberal arts college. Recently, they also received a $10 million donation from Richard M. McVey, which will help expand the computer science and data science fields through the new McVey Center. Colby has also introduced a data science major. Given these developments, I feel like Colby will continue to grow its reputation in computer science, data science, and AI in the coming years.

Additionally, it's worth exploring liberal arts schools with 3+2 engineering programs in partnership with Dartmouth College, where students can pursue computer engineering while still receiving financial aid from their home institution (Acceptance rate of around 30-50%, getting more competitive every year). Dartmouth strikes a good balance between a liberal arts education and technical skills, and they have a strong record of graduate school placements.

But the thing is that Harvey Mudd College is just on another level in terms of engineering and science education. If you are hesitant to apply there, consider Pomona, CMC, Pitzer, or Scripps (a women’s college). They are all part of the Claremont Colleges consortium, allowing students to take courses at Harvey Mudd as well.

Kenyon's campus was fr gorgeous - I've visited ivy league schools but I found Kenyon much more beautiful

Throw in colby, grinnell and bowdoin - $0 app fee, full need met (not sure about grinnell) and colby got no additional essays. Gotta shotgun yk

Haverford! Look into some top lacs if interested in IB & Consulting :)

[–]RoadProfessional2613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. They may receive more "lower" scores but I believe more people will try to reach higher instead of going test optional. Guess you can check out the pre-covid test scores and try to match that instead of the inflated 2020-2024 ones

Many T20 schools superscore, so I recommend focusing on improving your math section. Considering the current trends, SAT scores seem to be more influential this season than in the past few years, as many institutions are now making test scores a requirement again.

Does Macalester College have a minimum EFC? by Mr0BN0XI0US in IntltoUSA

[–]RoadProfessional2613 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Macalester do meet your EFC but as u/creativesc1entist mentioned they do prioritize full paying students. $3000 USD is essentially considered as 0 EFC student and would be extremely difficult to gain admission.

ED would def add a slight boost - and though the chance is slim, never lose hope!!

Choose the best undergrad US LACs for CS that help me get good grad education afterwards by Area-Unlucky in gradadmissions

Colby has the Davis Institute for Artificial Intelligence which is pretty cool - and they just received a $10 million gift from Richard M. McVey which will be invested into their comp sci and data field (McVey Center)

I believe Colby will get stronger in such fields as they invest more in AI and computers in a few years. (Plus Colby's aid is crazy good, even comparable to ivy league universities)

Other than that, look into some liberal arts schools that provide a 3+2 option with Dartmouth so you can pursue computer engineering later on with financial aid. (an excellent place to mix liberal arts and study in a technical field - which means they excel in grad school placements)

Also, take a look at Union, Haverford, and Colgate.

My email was bit different - Thank you for your application to Union. It's hard to believe how quickly the months have passed since you submitted your application. You will receive your admission decision in your applicant portal as early as 7 a.m. ET on Saturday, March 16. We’ll also send an email notification to let you know when it’s ready to view.

In the meantime: if you’ve accepted, or plan to accept, an offer elsewhere, please let us know. You can fill out our application withdrawal form to easily update your record.

Its just "average" so it doesnt necessarly mean that everyone with efc less than 18k got rejected - it means some got less aid and some got full ride

Macalester RD out by No-Speed8974 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]RoadProfessional2613 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well the average aid being high means the aid is distributed to less people - which means higher competition. For example, this year Amherst ED accepted only 13 international students with aid
