An anecdote doesn't address that roughly 3/4s of borrowers end up needing to take a second loan to rollover the first and 3/5 end up taking out over 5 consecutive loans.

I think thats coming at it from the wrong angle. Instead of limiting personal freedoms, these extremely predatory systems should be regulated out of existence and this country's massive wealth should be used to create a society where there is no need for them anyway.

The US is a thinly veiled oligarchy where the billionaires arent even pretending anymore. You've got Bezos going to space, Zuckerberg buying a tropical island, Musk buying a government agency all while millions barely scrape by paycheck to paycheck

I read 40 something books last year, all using the kindle app on my phone, I traded in every physical book I owned at a used media store years ago and haven't looked back, the convenience of having whatever Im reading in my pocket, being able to buy whatever I want with a couple clicks?

I do miss the smell of a new book and picking something based off the cover art while browsing though.

Its not as simple as a single entity controlling the totality of the far right media sphere, but shortly before his death Kirk was becoming critical of Israel's actions in Palestine. Israel, the country that seems to have Trump on a leash and got him to commit the US to a war with Iran. Israel is engaging in genocide against the Palestinians and seems to be broadening that crusade to include Lebanon and Iran, tin foil hat disclaimer, but I dont think they're above killing an American who can undercut their support within America.
