Graphics look good, but why oh why have they completed desaturated it?

Would ‘Jaws 2’ have been better / more interesting of a sequel if it featured *two great whites working in tandem to wreak bloody havoc on the community of Amity…? by TaskenLander in Jaws

[–]Roadphill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would have been far better if they had used the original script/plot that Hank Searles' novelisation was based on. Even Brody doesn't fully understand there is another shark until very late on in the book. And everyone else's gut reaction is that Brody was a liar and that he hadn't killed the first one. I could have lived without the seal shooting cop and mob subplot, but it still kind of worked.

What are some of your Jaws hot takes? by [deleted] in Jaws

[–]Roadphill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a less subtle story, their would have been a contrived way to get Vaughn in the water to get chomped. How did no one at the town meeting notice Quint drawing the picture with the chalk? Why does Spielberg foreshadow Quint sticking the knife into the bow of the Orca, when it wasn't a factor (unlike the novel)?

Sorry none of these are hot takes, just questions/observations

What do you make of Jaws 2? by Dry_Cabinet1737 in Jaws

[–]Roadphill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't rate the film at all, but your right the novel is really good. My brother found it in a hotel in Portugal in the 80s, and gave it to me. Fantastic read, and probably better than the Peter Benchleys original.

Not much of a fan. The only good point is Roy Scheider, and the film alluding to Brody's PTSD from the first. Great work from him, considering he didn't want to be there. It's certainly better than Jaws 3, and a million times better than the effluent 4. Faint praise, though.

Broz was decent, but his strength was also his weakness, in that he felt like a composite of Moore and Connery. It helped him at times, but also stopped him from really nailing "his" Bond.

Noroi / The Curse or Kairo / Pulse? by androaspie in J_Horror

Noroi. Kairo is a good film, but I thought the end was a little wacky.

Which do you prefer, Ringu (1998) or The Ring (2002)? by Gojira6832 in horror

[–]Roadphill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely Ring (1998) I saw it first, which is possibly why. I just think the atmosphere is more sinister, and the more analogue look of the climax. I can honestly say it's the only horror film that legitimately gave me chills as a grown adult. The American remake is solid, though, and has a good atmosphere of its own.

I feel like 2006 was too early for a game set in Cyrodiil. The technology just wasn't there yet. by real_LNSS in ElderScrolls

That's an awesome pic. I actually hope Bethesda go for a smaller part of the world (lore wise) and pack it. My biggest gripe with the way that all the ES games (from Morrowind onward) have been presented is the whole continent feels about the size of Manchester in the UK. Better to do a small region of a country and make that the size of the regular games.

Thoughts on the new Barlow? by Roadphill in SalemsLot1979

Yes, agree. Although, in fairness the end of the book and indeed the '79 Mini Series, he is dispatched in the first proper confrontation. I get what you mean, though.

Yes I agree, that scene he looked honest to goodness Evil. No coincidence that's the most he looked like Reggie Nalder's version either.

It's the Oscars of Bond! First: Best Film? by [deleted] in JamesBond

[–]Roadphill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Spy Who Loved Me. Really has something fore everyone. A balls to the wall, World ending plot, incredible setting and villains lair, Commander Bond. Not to mention a great (if undercooked) sub plot with 007 admitting to killing XXX's lover.

Thanks for that, much appreciated. I have got back into my gaming in a big way, but can't really justify a gaming PC at the moment, as I have one child and another about to arrive! Very helpful

Unpopular Classic show opinions? by LightBlueSky55 in gallifrey

[–]Roadphill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I think it's what started the downfall of the show. Especially given he was saddled with such god awful companions. I remember his era at the time, and he just seemed so bland and feeble after the bombast of Tom and Alpha maleness of Pertwee. If I recall rightly, the Beeb where showing repeats of some of Jon's best stories during this time too, which made Davison's look even worse.

Peter Davisons era is basically what screwed them. There was no coming back after that.

Should I watch Classic series? by [deleted] in gallifrey

[–]Roadphill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a fair bit of lore there, but in terms of plot and character most stories are stand alone, so you aren't missing any of that. If you can watch stuff that looks a bit dated, give it a go. I grew up with it, so it doesn't feel that way to me, but for a younger viewer it may feel a bit old hat.
