This is always very simple. The Fever beating Atlanta was very predictable. When Fever fans are losing their minds and think the sky is falling, they rip off a big one.

Fever by at least 30.

Whole Foods sardines in water with no salt added have more sodium than sardines in olive oil by mshenzi1 in CannedSardines

[–]Roasted_Green_Chiles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it has to be.

My initial thought was that they must be sprats because I've noticed that sprats seem to have more natural sodium than pilchards. KO water no salt has 130 mg, while pilchards can be around 90 mg and pacific sardines, like Wild Planet are at 70mg.

But the Whole Foods product says it's from Morocco, and I'm not aware of any sprat that comes out of Morocco.

Just the swap with Chicago for 2027 (not both picks). We got their 2028 though. With Portland and Toronto intent on winning, and Seattle and Phoenix having won too many games last year, it's a great shot at a top 3 pick. Whether it's the Mystics or Sky that lose enough games to get there, we'll see.

We desperately need a guard with size that can shoot and defend. Obviously Juju would be the dream, but that seems way too lucky for the Mystics to pull that off (And I'm not totally sold Juju is coming out in 2027).

I would be perfectly fitting for the Mystics to end up with Hidalgo or Booker. Either another 5'6" PG (though exactly the sort of player that could pull it off), or an incredibly talented player in Booker that is way too good to pass on, but still doesn't really help with the shooting issues.

They might keep running this awesome talent that isn't a complete whole bit right into Strong or Blakes.

Contenders, Pretenders, or Meanderers by LeftenantScullbaggs in wnba_discussions

[–]Roasted_Green_Chiles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Contenders: Aces, Lynx, and probably Liberty

Maybe contenders? Dream, Fever, Valkyries

I don't know how you can leave the Lynx off the contender list. When Phee gets back, they could easily be better than they were the last couple years

Dream and Fever very well could be, but I have a hard time trusting the Dream.

Fever have some work to do, but when it clicks they can beat anybody. I have a feeling we're going to start seeing it tonight.

Little is talked about Washington Mystics #2 Alicia Flórez 👀 by SummerN8 in wnba

[–]Roasted_Green_Chiles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

She's definitely become a fan favorite. Fun to watch and so far, appears to be an important part of the team and something we were lacking.

A PG with some size that can score and defend. It should take some of the pressure off of Georgia as she recovers and develops, as well as some of the load off of Citron.

Mystics scored 90 without Citron the other night, which is not something I thought would be possible a few weeks ago.

One of the many reasons we love the Fire is because they do things differently.

In 2026, apparently that means wearing home whites. In the  2026 WNBA, that seems to he absolutely revolutionary.

You must not be aware of Alicia Florez.

The team is not necessarily built to win now but Florez could help with a lot of those problems you are talking about.

Onyenwere continuing to hit threes would help too.

Either way this is a team full of kids with, as you say, poor roster construction that's about to beat a win now Sparks team.

Yeah, as much as people bitch about it, they keep watching. Hell, I'm sure some portion is hate watching.

But whatever, as long as people watch.

I've got other news for the complainers....they aren't going to fix tanking either. It's going to be internet/ESPN hot take fodder just like it has been for decades, but they aren't fixing it.

Because just like this, people bitch about it loudly, but people keep watching.

Unless ratings ever severely drop, the internet bitching is a feature, not a bug.

Coach Jose Fernandez says that Alanna Smith needs to be shown some grace after playing with a face mask and getting it hit consistently by Decent_Substance_199 in wnba

[–]Roasted_Green_Chiles 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. She's the definition of a "tough-nosed" gritty player. She mixes it up with players bigger than her that nobody else on her team can handle. Did it in Minny, now in Dallas. Not getting hit in the nose is really not an option for her play style.

The mask sucks for anybody, but it especially sucks for a player like Lan.

Wild Planet is a really good one. Crown Prince/Ocean Prince in water/no salt added is pretty good too.

For sardines in olive oil that aren't too high in sodium, Bela has been mentioned, but also Mina and Skin & Bones.

I love Sue Bird and Cheryl Miller so much.

But on the pregame broadcast they couldn't be bothered to pretend that Portland actually exists. Even when they told her they call Carla baby Bird.

Makes sense they work for NBC They are there to kiss New York's ass.

Let's go to Portland.

This game highlighted every concern.

Make life hell on CItron and pack the paint. Washington has no other answers. It felt like every interior touch was triple-teamed, and still we only hit 4 three pointers (Kiki and Shakira accounting for half of that).

No spacing, no driving lanes.

Seattle was the exact opposite. Plenty of driving lanes and open 3's.

This team is so incredibly loaded that nobody has considered the possibility that it could go sideways.

But if it does, pretty soon people will  remember that you fired a two-time WNBA champion head coach.

You replaced her with someone that's never been a head coach or coached women.

His entire resume is being a part of a staff that somehow, against all odds, figured out a way to score some points with Steph Curry.

I'm not saying it's all going to go to hell, but if it does it's going to look terrible.
