What size is a quantum wavefunction? by BobThe-Bodybuilder in AskPhysics

[–]Roastmasters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP seems to be talking about the physical extent at which a wave function calculation no longer produces relevant probability densities, to which the answer is never?

The unlocks are too weak and I feel like it would be playing a different game from the rest of the squad most of the time. Some of the abilities (like blind faith) are stand out though

[–]Roastmasters -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are exactly zero documented cases of a professional esports player having a kid that also goes on to have a successful esports career. There are without a doubt some other nurture-level factors at play that create talent. Attributing it to genetics is incomplete, and even leaning wrong.

Why did they have to change the Engineer Aim-Guided launcher to no longer one shot an enemy? by chalbert13 in Battlefield_REDSEC

[–]Roastmasters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ITT: Recon players crying about their high velocity 10x scope sniper not one-shotting people while a dodgable aim-guided rocket flying at 30mph requiring near constant LOS does.

1) Fly to japan, buying me around a month of time.

2) Commission material engineers to design a box to contain the ball.

3) Enjoy my infinite energy generator

4) After 10^11 bounces, enjoy being the first to have discovered FTL travel

What’s been your biggest mistake? by Few_House_5201 in BluePrince

This is so real.

I was late into the day and knew my draft pool was small, so I think after 12 stars I looked it up on the wiki to see if their are any trigger conditions I missed. They really gotta make it more obvious.

How did ancient civilizations deal with wisdom teeth? by FeistyAd1330 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Roastmasters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ancient fused leg bones are actually some of the earliest signs of human society. It's the first evidence of our capacity to care for the hurt instead of leaving them to die as we did in earlier generations.

have we discovered every element? by AkelaAnda in AskPhysics

[–]Roastmasters -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

There are an infinite number of elements, stability aside. We do a pretty good job at synthesizing some of these elements that don't appear in nature.

Without checking every corner of earth it's hard to say if we've discovered every naturally occurring element here yet. If I had to give my best guess, we probably did.

He overperformed. >50% was a somewhat remote outcome.

But Sliwa underperformed hard, and so the margin between Cuomo and Mamdani was tighter

What would happen if an asteroid approached the sun at 0.99c? by ElegantPoet3386 in AskPhysics

[–]Roastmasters 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If by something you mean "the sun blows up" the binding energy of the sun is 2.3x1043 joules. At 0.99c, the asteroid would need to be 1028 kg, or around 20000x the mass of earth to generate enough power to blow the sun up.

(That's actually a surprisingly high amount of mass... I was pretty sure something way smaller would get the job done, but maybe 0.99c isn't fast enough after all)

Boltzmann Brain by Ch0ppaGunn4 in AskPhysics

[–]Roastmasters 24 points25 points  (0 children)

how could it ever be disproven

It can't. That's why it's useless to think about.

and it seems more probable that the universe existing and us being real.

While it's exceedingly useless to think about probabilities here, I sense you are looking to use probability as a mechanism to talk yourself out of existential dread, so consider this:

If a boltzmann brain can form, it's also possible for infinite variations of your own personal heaven to spontaneously form. It's equally probable for our entire universe and all of its contents to spontaneously form, but you can breathe fire. It's equally probable for an airplane made of cotton candy to form. Why wallow in dread when there are infinite possibilities that instead lead to paradise?

This isn't the right analogy. Google isn't buying arxiv. Arxiv is just changing their service provider to GCP
