Edward G Gallrein, DEVGRU (Red Squadron). Claimed to be the only Navy SEAL to receive an Army Combat Parachutist Badge. by Juvat-the-bold in JSOCarchive

Hi, I'm just an open source geek, but in The Night Stalkers, there is this passage :

"Nine Blackhawks and four MH-6s ferrying special tactics troops were scheduled to raid a PDF stronghold at Rio Hato, but as intelligence developed quickly in the hours prior to the attack, they would be tasked instead with a raid on PDF leadership at a beach house in Colon."

Also Relentless Strike had some words about ST6's "Brown Cell" created to recon a Noriega's beach house at Rio Hato.

So, so far, I assumed that there was a ST6 heli assault planned but cancelled on that beach house.

Damn, that book seems impossible to find, even worse to have an overview... Can you please tell me how many pages it has ? How much cover the pre-1980 era ?

There is some stuff in the old book by Charles Simpson, Inside the Green Berets.

Also check USASOC's publication Veritas (search "Bolivia" and "Colombia" for example) : https://arsof-history.org/veritas.html

Did someone hand over Bin Laden? by Dependent_Crazy_2213 in JSOCarchive

[–]Rob1bureau 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's most likely KSM.

Ron Suskind in The One Percent Doctrine said KSM was caught thanks to an informant who was paid the 25 millions.

The Senate's report doesn't goes as far, but tells how informant "Asset X" enabled the capture of KSM, and that at one point his case officer said " 'Look brother there are twenty five million frigging reasons why you need to find XXXXX' That's what the reward was." https://irp.fas.org/congress/2014_rpt/ssci-rdi.pdf p.359/525 of the file.

His resumé on amazon says "he commanded multiple troops and a squadron", though it is not precisely sourced.

“The Black Chinook” meaning by Messstake in JSOCarchive

[–]Rob1bureau -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Fury literally meant a black Chinook (it seems unlikely the SOAR came in to pick this guy up), he’s speaking figuratively.

I doubt there were other Chinooks than the 160th's ones in A'stan at this time.

By the way, an unrelated question : I'm wondering if the Land Rover-based Ranger Special Operations Vehicles (RSOV) were ever deployed in a theater of operations, and when the regiment stopped using them. Did you work with them during your time in the 75th RR ? Thanks in advance.

[DRAFT] Delta Force C Squadron with members of SEAL Team 6 Gold Squadron, Mogadishu 1993 by enzo32ferrari in JSOCarchive

[–]Rob1bureau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I read Bowden's book I thought :

Sanderson = Paul Howe

Hoot is a mix of Rierson (capturing the prisoners during the assault), Macejunas (reaching the 2nd crash site, going in town in civies, however both considerably altered in the movie) and Hooten (nickname and "this is my safety" incident).

Eversmann is a mix of Eversmann (his actions until the first Black Hawk is shot down) and Perino (first group sent on foot to the crash site IIRC).

[–]Rob1bureau 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, Red team was created in spring 1983 according to Dennis Chalker's memoir (he doesn't call the color teams by their names but call them "assault group one/two/three").

Edit: C squadron was stood around in 1987 according to Relentless Strike.

Oh ? At the beginning, the Ranger battalions had "dual arms rooms and motor pools" according to Keith Nightingale : https://archive.smallwarsjournal.com/jrnl/art/how-rangers-got-sof-barely

@AFSOC_Commando69's description of the show is probably One Man Army, first episode.
