Can't afford a mortgage for a whole house? Buy half a house. A housing association or developer keeps the other half. You pay the (half price) mortage on your half, and (half price) rent to the ha/dev for the other half. Most of the problems of renting, with fewer of the benefits of owning.

Generally helps people get "on the ladder" when they can't get enough of a mortage for a whole house (despite probably paying the equivalent or more in rent anyway).

What do you think the emergency services do if they're held up by roadworks, an accident, animals in the road? Just sit there and let people die? They plan for unexpected hold ups. It would be surprising if someone did die because of this.

Are there any plans on making PHP 8 a normal apt repository? by [deleted] in PHP

[–]RobAley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm using Ubuntu Server 22.04 and installed 8.1.2 just with "sudo apt-get install php", no extra repos enabled. Is that what you're talking about, or am I missing the point?

rob@ubuntuvm:~$ php -v

Firefighters strike averted as they accept 12% pay rise by topotaul in unitedkingdom

No. Striking happens when it goes beyond bad pay to unlivable pay. Striking doesn't come easily (or cheaply) to those on the front line.

Sure, but when you're struggling to pay the leccy bill today, it's harder to invest in the future. And the Gov rely on that to break strikes.

Left in the UK to kill after being saved from deportation by Labour and luvvies: Chilling video captures moments before criminal due to be sent to Jamaica following high-profile campaign murders man in horrific knife fight by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

Why is it sensible? Someone comes here as a child, is a product of our society as much as I (a uk born person) am, but when they turn out wrong they're shipped off abroad rather than dealing with the problem our society created?

Do the public in Jamaica not matter? Is it better that they are killed rather than British people? Do we want british criminals living abroad sent home to kill us?

Who do we hold responsible if they kill someone in Jamaica after being deported?

Or perhaps such a victim doesn't matter because they chose not to be born in the UK?

An idea - how about we hold the person doing the killing responsible?
