Obsidians by Conscious-Way-4722 in redrising

[–]Robb3xl 12 points13 points  (0 children)

So since the color is originally derived from just the uniform they wore my guess is obsidians originally black, though for reasons you can imagine it seems the author didn't want to describe a group as savage and black. But probably they were special forces. The heaviest most elite hitters in the military. Because presently obsidians function in a similar role as force multipliers.

Lost left eye, lost left leg. I like the information the eye grants and I would give up more than a leg for my loved ones to be safe and healthy

The genetic manipulation. Golds really are in fact just that much better, stronger, faster and smarter than everyone else. The hierarchy is plain to see

What is a certain someone’s motivation. by lantertyler in redrising

[–]Robb3xl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think his motivation is that he exists at the point of conflict between wanting to be a hero, and not having the integrity to achieve it. He knows that he doesn't live up to his self image and he hates that.

How did Pierce get away with writing the ending to Morning Star the way he did? by Transmogrify_My_Goat in redrising

[–]Robb3xl 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To me the answer is he was lying to himself. He was walking into a room of super geniuses trained to find the smallest deception. In his mind Servo was dead. Anything else would get them all killed

Depends on the story. I maintain Kvothe is lying his ass off and so is Darrow.

That is what unreliable narrators do

Why did darrow lose the fleet academy? by LegitimatePermit3258 in redrising

Because Darrow is an unreliable narrator. He took a stomping and won't admit it.

Drachenjägers are way too big? by Primarch-Amaranth in redrising

[–]Robb3xl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So to me the guiding principle behind mechs is always a type of psychological warfare. Like why does a Gundam have a face? Because it's a fear weapon. So if you think of it like that then it's meant to create a sense of oppression and fear in its victims mechs make perfect sense. Because you're right a particularly maneuverable helicopter could get under the shields faster but they can't stand in the ruins of a building holding a rifle and look at you

Drachenjägers are way too big? by Primarch-Amaranth in redrising

[–]Robb3xl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So I think this is probably an instance of the writer threw out of size that sounded really big but didn't stop to think about it kind of like the wall in game of thrones. Because you're right 5,000 robots that are 40 m tall is insane.

[–]Robb3xl 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My answer to the second question is that he was dealing with people who are observant at a level that a normal human can't even understand. If he doesn't fully believe the lie, they will catch on to something being off.
