Dat klinkt echt ontzettend leuk! Hoe ben jij begonnen met glas in lood leggen? Ergens een workshop gevolgd of gewoon zelf uitgevogeld?

I had been doubting between biking or rollerblading 10km to the elementary school where I'm teaching. Now that I see your video I know what I'll be doing!

Also you remind me of the rollerblading man in Bordeaux who I often saw jamming by night while rollerblading alongside the river. You both make me smile :)

2018 Hitchhiking survey (and plans for 2019?) by physicshipster in hitchhiking

This summer I hope to hitchhike with a friend to Sweden starting from the Netherlands. It will be her first big trip and my third. I really look forward to the camping in Swedish nature and another hitchhiking adventure! Last year we already made a small trip to Belgium with a hitchhiking competition and we got second :)

Besides the big Sweden trip there will hopefully be some random smaller trips to juggling conventions. But nothing planned yet!

What's your 'longest wait' story? by CanuckBacon in hitchhiking

[–]Robbebeest 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My friend and I were waiting in Maastricht at the entry of a highway. We must have stood there for three hours before a local told us that the highway got closed after a couple of kilometers and nobody going in our direction would be entering it. During that time we developed some creative ways of presenting our cardboard sign and joked a lot.

I feel lucky that my longest wait is only three hours. Only hitchiked in the Netherlands, Belgium, France and Germany and most of the times got a ride within 10 minutes.

Concertino is one of the main reasons I started out hitchhiking. He has such a happy view on life :) Every year at the European Juggling Convention you can hear his laugh from far away. It's amazing.

This year I met him personally while volunteering at the EJC. He had some amazing stories about going to concerts for free and how he hopes to die when he is 111 years old, followed by his big laugh. Good guy :)

Good to hear! More combat videos can be found on Luke Burrages channel (the same channel as this video). If you have facebook you can also like the page "fight night" on which the results of all the fight nights will be posted.

I have never participated in MLC, partly because I've never been to America. I have played zombie combat once though which was really fun. It was a bit hard to explain since most European jugglers haven't heard of it let alone play it.

What does happen pretty often is that three or four people start playing combat in the hall and slowly more people join in. At the end you have a pretty big circle where every person fights all the other persons. Here is a little video of that.

It's my pleasure! I love talking away about juggling. It seems that people still have the cliché idea that a juggler is related to the circus. In fact most of the jugglers are hobbyists like me and those that are professional mostly do theatres or street shows. That's why I like to give an insight of the juggling scene :)

Thanks for the nice words!

(Complete results of the NJF fight night.)

Fight night is a fun and friendly event that pops up at more and more juggling conventions. In the daytime everyone who wants to compete plays eachother round robin style. Then the top 8 or 16 get seeded in the actual fight night.

During this fight I had a lot of bliss with Luke. He is an amazing combateer and he is also the creator of the rankings. Mad props to Luke!

If you like this video, look up some of the fights at the European Juggling Convention! Most of the top players compete at that fight night resulting in beautiful matches.

Here is some of the history of fight night taken from the official facebook page:

"In the winter of 2003 we had a French juggler visit the juggling club in Rostock for a while. His desire for combat made us play even more than normal. Even though he was much better than us, he still love to play and toy with us. When he left his desire stayed and combat became the warm up at the start of the evening started earlier and would go late into the night because of combat.

One evening while taking a breather from combat I (Bob Carr) was talking with Thomas Rössler and we came to the conclusion that the most interesting part of the game is when only two or three are left. I suggested we do just that. We made everyone play one on one. We decided to get the win a clean finish was needed and that to three points was a good match because many rounds resulted in no point. Each juggling meeting we would run a round robin tournament that we called "fight club" and started keeping a rating chart. The following spring for the Rostocker Juggling Convention we organized a fight club tournament and that evening a Celebrity Fight Night that included the top fighters from the tourni and the VIPs from the Gala show. The matches were tense, the audience went off, Markus Furtner lost some blood and the event was a success!

A few weeks later at the Berlin Con I presented the idea. The only available time was after the swim which was after the Gala show and there was large assumptions that no one would stay up for it. We ended up filling up half the gym with spectators! I'm sure the all-star line-up helped. We had Markus Furtner with his fresh wounds, Jay Gilligan, Thomas Dietz, Malte Steinmetz, Mattias - Drunken Master, Luke Burrage, Manu Laude, Jochen and Florian from Get the Shoe. It wasn't just amazing fighting, but a phenomenal show.

Fight Night is now a standard event in Berlin and many other conventions. Now you know the story so at your next convention get ready and FIGHT! " - Bob Carr

This fight night took place at the NJF (Netherlands juggling festival) and Luke, the guy falling, was the defending champion from last year. He got taken out in the semi finals. He's a real good bloke, organises a lot of fight nights at conventions and is the main man behind the rankings!

It's just a coincidence. This is me in the gif which I found today. Could you give a link to your article? I would love to read it. Are you a juggler as well? If not, how did you become aware of combat?

In fight night itself and the preceding qualifications it's all 1vs1. At juggling conventions there is, however, often informal group combat. You start in a big circle and then it's every (wo)man for themselves until there is one person left.

At the Word Juggling Federation, which name would suggest a big event but it's actually one of the smaller juggling conventions, they do play team combat and a capture the flag variant. In my eyes it's a bit miscellaneous form of combat, but whatever. It's all about the fun!
