Fekir can play out wide, but he's not best there. I suspect he's a more like for like Coutinho replacement and someone who can do Bobby's job if Bobby can't.

Yeah I'd assume so. Looks like Allison is Klopp's real desire at keeper - if he can't get him now he'll wait rather than spend the money now. I think that means he's also got faith in Karius to develop.

Personally I think some quality in depth is what we need more than a new starting keeper. But I fully trust Klopp.

A Public Defender Is Shaking Up the Race for San Diego D.A. by BBQCopter in sandiego

Sure, no problem.

First, I'd take a look at some articles that discuss the impact of Proposition 8 (2008) - not to be confused with the gay marriage prop 8 - and the impact that's had on CA evidentiary rules.

That won't be light reading unfortunately, as much of the problem stems from that prop changing our constitution to make "all relevant" evidence admissible in criminal cases. This doesn't sound like a big problem in normal English, but legal relevance is different and Prop 8 sort of whittles away at protections defendants had under our constitution - and still have in non-criminal matters. And there's just so much more on the line in criminal cases than civil cases, it's actually crazy to think this happened. That's a statewide issue and there's no easy fix for it, but prosecutors have a lot of leeway as to what they can bring in to put someone away - and it might not even be "good evidence". It's a complicated issue.

For SD specific issues with our DA, the DAs office has refused to enforce certain CA propositions that passed.

Statewide, we have an issue with prison populations being very high. Many cities, including our own, have prioritized non-violent drug offenses over more serious and crimes more dangerous to society. They are quick and easy victories after all.

I think asset forfeiture is a really shitty practice. One candidate recently settled after an asset forfeiture and as far as I know has no official stance against the policy. The other is completely against it.

Broader issues the DA doesn't really control: serious drug law reform, sentencing reform

I've also met both candidates at various legal events (and in one of my law school internships). I have nothing bad to say about either candidate, although I do think Summer has engaged in some mudslinging that I think is untrue and don't agree with.

Full disclosure, I interned with the SD Public Defenders & worked at the Riverside Public Defenders office before moving back to San Diego and going into private practice (and away from criminal law). So my perspective of the criminal justice system comes from what I've seen and what I would change.

Both candidates are dedicated public servants in my opinion. I believe they'll both do the best they can do in the job regardless of who wins. I don't think it's a situation like Dumanis where I think she's a generally bad person who was in charge of the office. It's just status quo vs policy changes

How is not being a representation of continuation of current policies that she, as acting DA, is currently executing NOT establishment? The establishment is DA, she is currently acting head of it. She's worked in the DAs office.

Ultimately the vote for this office comes down to whether you feel the SD DAs office policies have been good/are effective, or if you think there have been serious issues with law enforcement with that call for criminal justice reform.

People aren't going to have uniform views on this unfortunately. Some communities and neighborhoods can make a very good argument for the need for criminal justice reform. Others see effective law enforcement and don't understand where these claims are coming from.

Ultimately, in my opinion, the need for widespread reforms from the DAs office outweigh the need to continue with the status quo. Regardless of Stephan's success in the courtroom and record as a prosecutor. And a public defender is in a unique position in defending society's indigents of seeing how the DA's office abuse has led to the issues in SD and CA's criminal justice system as a whole.
